Hey Jeff, you a dad yet? Trust all is well. I've been playing these for ever and always thought I was playing 3rds, so much for me and theory. I was actually noodling on these intervals to your backing track for the harder they come. Came up with a cool passage from the A minor to G. God bless buddy! Birks

Hey Birks, not yet but thanks for asking. Due date it on Memorial Day, but could be any day now! 3rds and 6ths are inversions of each other so they closely related. I made another video about all that which is sort of a follow up to this one. Take your IMPROVISATION SKILLS up by a 3RD (or a 6TH)! - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHezl4RrbtaXe9U

3rds and Sixths are inversions of each other. Just something to keep in mind

Definitely, good point! I love to sometimes play a simple line in 6ths and then the inversion of it in 3rds or vice versa.

You do an excellent job. Finding your channel is great timing...had been working on a bunch of Dead tunes on guitar and piano. Keep at it. And the backing tracks are great. Do you also play and or teach piano?
@JeffWilliamsGuitar5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Unfortunately I don't teach piano. I've played it other all my tracks until the last 2. This one and Ramble On Rose. From now on I've got someone I hire who's waaaaaaaaaay better than me!

If I understand this right you are taking about the sixth in the scale which is the relative minor. So Ionian in C major would be Aeolian, natural minor of A. So it could be a major or minor sixth depending where you start in the scale?
@JeffWilliamsGuitar5 жыл бұрын
It can get a little confusing. Like you said, in C Major, A would be the sixth. But a sixth (or 4th, 5th, anything) can also be referred to as the distance between 2 notes. Independent of what the scale tones are. Although the way they're named is based off the major scale. For example, A is a major 6th above C. And F# is a major 6th above D. That could be in any key but it's referring to how far D and F# are away from each other.
@Jbhyers1235 жыл бұрын
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar Ok totally confused now. I see A is nine semitones above C but F# is only 4 semitones above D. Shouldn't it be B which is nine semitones as well? I'll have to read more about all of this.
@JeffWilliamsGuitar5 жыл бұрын
Oh sorry, I meant B above D not F# (which is a major 3rd above D). My bad! I'll probably make a general video about intervals, the concept, many uses, etc..

Soweto's Where It's At. I actually have a lesson breaking it down. One of my first videos. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKmweWachLqjpNU It's on the album Friends Seen and Unseen. One of my all time favorite guitar albums.
