I'm tired of the sisification of our society these days. I'm with the coach 100%. He didn't say anything out of line. The main stream media is acting like this guy is Judas. If they only knew what my drill sergeant said to me years ago. Oh I heard drill sergeants aren't even allowed to curse or yell no more. I hope I'm wrong on that. Let's grow up people, he is within his right. It's like we are taking this political correctness thing too far. Sometimes, you just got to say what's on your mind. These are Division 1 level athletes. That's why our youths are spoiled rotten these days, it's like we are afraid to tell them the truth.

This basketball coach is pretty tame, Compared to one I knew in high school he was notorious for launching and destroying clipboards on the floor during practice and basketball games. He was also really adamant in the locker room when the team wasn't trying. Another coach I knew hit the floor with his fist once during a game so hard that it broke his knuckles open. I mentioned this too him the next day and he said that he wondered how that had happened.

LOL at all of these comments complaining about how mean he was. Yea, it was totally unprofessional to call out one of his players, but hey, these are big boys. Adults. Age 18 and over. And for those think he should be fired: The AD of SIU defended Hinson and Hinson is still head coach. He later admitted it he regrets calling out one of his players. He just put an urge in me to buy an SIU hat and become an Saluki BB supporter (Illini fan, here). Anyways, so what do you do when your coach says his wife can make more buckets than you based on a pump fake (a very simple and basic move)? You take it personally to an extent where you get fired up and score 20 pts and dish out 7 assists while making defensive moves in the upcoming games.

@merrillandrews523011 жыл бұрын
I played for this coach at southwest missouri state AKA ( MISSOURI STATE) and he's a great coach, person and father figure. the problem is kids don't understand that playing at a university on scholarship is a full time job and if they don't perform they need to be called out ( I was, and never cried about it and i was one of the best player on the team). players hold coaches jobs by how they perform and if you keep having losing season or sub par seasons then the coach will b out at job while the players stay on scholarship so he's just trying a different method to light a fire under there ass. he only called out the kids he knew that they could take the criticism or he wouldn't call them out and thats a fact I know. KIDS OR SOFT THESE DAYS AND CANT TAKE CRITICISM.
@sportsgaming26037 жыл бұрын
merrill andrews agree Merrill and the good coaches know who can take it and who cant. Its like when Pitino rode Peyton Siva those 2 years and the end result was a 2 final fours a natl title and back to back big east championships. Siva would then tell other guys its ok coach is building you into a man and making you a better player

Yeah this is funny, but you don't publicly call out your players by name in college sports. If they don't want to pay these guys like professionals, you can't hold them publicly accountable like they're professionals. Berate them all you want in practice, make them run etc, but you don't rip into them like this is the press conference. Someone from the school should have took the mic away.
@Overloadstrength11 жыл бұрын
A coach can't publicly criticize his players poor play? That's ridiculous, if they play like crap they should get crap for it. Everybody needs to stop being so soft like seriously sometimes somebody has to just be chewed out.
@sydIRISH9 жыл бұрын
Well, if your wife is still with you....I guess she truly doesn't care. I have NO problem with a coach who tells it like it is. If your players aren't responding....you gotta do what you gotta do. Motivation comes in many forms. Tough love is the best kind of love....critical coaching is the best kind of coaching. If you don't push people to their limits, you never find out what kind of strength they have. It is necessary.

@dakidobf11 жыл бұрын
Key word: PRACTICE. That was done in private. You don't publicly call out your players by name.
@bballbrc11 жыл бұрын
Dee France yes you do.

Dee France you have obviously NEVER dealt with kids from a high level coaching standpoint. You do so yell at them in public and call them names and do what it takes to get their attention short of physically assaulting them.

And what University are you the head coach of? Show me ONE video with Mike Krzyzewski, Dean Smith, Thad Motta, John Thompson, Tom Izzo or any other truly GREAT college coach talking about their kids like this in a press conference. You won't find it because those men are professionals. This guy is an amateur trying to gain some notoriety by acting an azz and will never be an elite coach at the college level.
