I had a fortune to meet him at a very famous restaurant in Lucknow. He came to eat the kebabs and no one in the restaurant recognised him. My friend and me recognised him, went to him and we had a talk. He asked what's good in this restaurant, we gave him the suggestions and he ordered exactly that. We felt so fortunate and honoured. A R Rahman and Sivamani were childhood friends and their friendship bloomed into professional partnership as well. sivamani is behind every amazing beat in every Rahman song. Unless Sivamani brings more of some of his professional percussionist friends into the mix or Rahman wants to. but Sivamani is a constant in Rahman's music and I adore that. You did see him in Coke studio especially whenever Rahman was performing or conducting. I knew Sivamani before Rahman and he broke out during nineties as someone very talented, through some friends, and whom his neighbors in Foreshore Estate (in Madras/Chennai) used to be annoyed with this kid "banging his stupid drums all through the night".

Ustad Zahir Hussein ji, Sivami and Aasish Khan (sarod) were on a concert tour and we invited them to Raleigh in 1995. The genius of Sivamani on drums was very evident and infact Ustad asked him to perform a solo right away as Sivamani's energy level was sky-high!!!
