It was just fun. Dark theatre - no audiences except the grips and Snyder was so down to earth. You can't find a talk show like this anywhere. People always mention Charlie Rose, who I can't stand - he is always answering for his guests. Irritating

I was lucky not to long ago and found Aileen Stanley singing Chicago on a 78rpm record and that is my home town so felt very lucky. Love her.

To be pedantic, these singers covered at least two eras. Aileen Stanley the 1910s-1920s, Kay Starr etc from the 1940s onwards. Quite different styles of singing akin to say 1970s vs 1990s.

Helen Humes was singing regularly in 1977, so perhaps could not take leave for this show. Ella - was a superstar by the 1970s compared to the singers here (except maybe Kay Starr), no disrespect.

Duke Ellington featured several females singers. Arguably the best was Ivie Anderson (died 1949). The others were Joya Sherill, Kay Davis, Betty Roche and possible a few more - can't remember the names.
