I have a Singaporean TV show Crouching Tiger Hidden Ghost. 20 episodes of Comedy. The episodes can also be watched on KZbin Xiao Fang's inexplicable death leaves her confined to a complex and her futile pleas for help create chaos. After a year, three people bump into her in the haunted unit! Seizing the chance to look into her death, she forces them to sign a Ghost Contract and the entwinement of their lives begins This has helped me learn a lot of Chinese words and sentences.

don't know who will even see this, but there's a movie Dear Ex (2018) that I absolutely loved because of how nuanced and realistic the characters and the dialogues are. the story shows the imperfect yet tender nature of human beings so well and the characters' actions incite a lot of contradictory feelings, since you can empathize with all of them to a certain extent and can't say who's right/wrong or if anyone deserved what happened to them. it's on Netflix and I can't say I've ever seen people talking much about it at all, which is why I find myself ranting and talking about it whenever I get the chance. I really hope the movie gains more recognition soon, it's a lovely and very human piece of art

I really enjoyed the TV show 一家人之名 (Go Ahead). The ending was a little strange but I loved the characters and felt I learned a lot about life in China in addition to learning a lot of Chinese.

我不是药神 is really excellent - my wife showed me other movies with the leading actor 徐峥 I really like him. I recommend 人在囧途 (Lost on Journey) which is a very goofy 春运-time roadtrip, and 爱情神话 (B for Busy) which is a more intimate story around a group of people in Shanghai. Bit harder to follow because of dialects, but I really enjoyed them. 少年的你 we started to watch couple weeks ago but indeed it's quite heavy especially on the bullying department, we need to find a better moment for it.

I watched a 2017 movie with the English title”Sky Hunter” (advertised as a Chinese’Top Gun’, but not really…) I cooked up a big bowl of popcorn and had a good movie night with it. There’s another from 2022 (“Born to Fly” I think…) It’s not supposed to be very good, but I’ll give it a try. I’m glad to have you helping us learn Chinese. Hsieh(4) hsieh(4). I have found watching Chinese movies a very good way to improve on my listening skills and reading ( the Chinese subtitles). Thank you & hope you will continue to recommend interesting movies for us to watch. I have watched Dying to Survive previously and it was a really good movie. I will watch it again. I have downloaded Hi Mom and Our Times and will watch this later. Another very good movie which I recommend is " The Last Letter"..a very good story

And I love Hi Mom and Our Times, but my favorite all time it's "Those bigone years". I really recommend "Firewell my concubine", "Raise the Red Lantern" and "The Eight Hundred"

I have started watching TV drama, a fantasy story. The great advantage for learners is that the dire-logue is very repetitive, you catch standard phrases and understand them after a bit; I watch with Mandarin subtitles, and there, too, the repeat factor helps a lot! A problem is that they seem to mostly use the dialogue the actors said while filming, which drowns them out when dramatic music is added. Btw, what the h.. is a Metallica guitar solo doing in a drama from ancient China??

This list is awesome… I will start watching them. I wondering if you or your class has a list for tv series or gameshows. I learned some of my English watching Friends and 24 hours and gameshows like Price was right… I wonder if there is anything similar in Chinese. Movies tend to take too much time and you really need to watch a few times to learn much from them.. but by the 3rd or 4th time the movie becomes a bit boring

Really good explanation of gouxie ... there are many such microdramas posted on KZbin, usually with very bad Eng subs ... lol ... but you are also more likely to hear colloquial expressions and current slang, as well as "swearing", on them.

I watch Chinese TV drama series with both Chinese and English subtitles. That way I can stop and look up any words. Some favorites: Be Yourself, Sword Snow Stride, Detective L, Ancient Detective, Falling Into Your Smile, Maiden Holmes, GO Into Your Heart, Encaustic Tile. I avoid too much romance or bloodshed, or gods and demons.

To summarise: 1 and 6 brilliant films, 1 more comprehensible speech, and subtitles clear on both, great experience. Numbers 2 and 4, subtitles largely illegible, small white print on white and light backgrounds and cleared too quickly, couldn't really follow. Number 3, subtitles good but speech unintelligible. Thanks for that selection, do suggest more.

Not a movie, but the show "my sexy gaurd" or something was top tier entertainment. Its the one where the special forces dude is forced to fall in love with an army doctor he rightfully despises. I think my favorite part of the whole thing is when the "white" characters speak English. I must have laughed for hours rewinding the scene before I finally figured out that the reason the "whites" only spoke unintelligible gibberish is because they were pronouncing the English words like they were written in Russian. Eg "C" makes the 's' sound, P is R, and R is y... 😆
