its so great to see community newspapers enduring and even thriving. just goes to show how little is known or understood of smaller communities by people in other parts of our country. keep up the great work. It is important.

Extraordinary account of what happened in east TN. I live just across the border in Yancey County, NC. May there be many blessings as you all continue to heal, recover and move forward

Through all the tragedy, loss of life, destruction of homes and businesses, it is encouraging that those affected by this storm continue to persevere to return to some semblance of normalcy. I am also encouraged by the multitude of Americans being Americans, offering the helping hand to our brothers and sisters in need. God bless America..

Thanks for keeping this in the forefront so people see and understand the amount of devastation all these communities are facing in the southern US. The amount of devastation is astounding.

The wind from this storm was strange as it was shredding pine trees. This kind of wind can cause rain to pile up in the mountains. Where I was, the power went out at my house but remained on 2 miles away. The power goes out so often from trees falling, it is difficult to get worked up about the lack of power. I have a friend that lives in Erwin, who was shocked by the flooding. I grew up near a creek that flows through a gorge, so the flooding and damage is common to me, not so with my friend. I remember cutting back the trees along the creek to help the floodwaters to not back up and cause problems. If you look at the debris in the Nolichucky, you can see the trees were debarked and shredded, which shows the turbulent flow of the river. This turbulent flow causes massive damage. I am glad we didn't see any major landslides in ET!

The lives lost and the lack of government support is devastating. Looking at the aftermath, so many poisons have been released into the environment. We need to start looking at ways to stop this.😢
