Hey Leo, long time fan first time commenter. So glad you’re reviewing LIB habibi. Just wanted to clarify the topic of men having multiple wives in Islam. While it is permitted yes, it comes with a ton of rules the man must follow. It’s not just a simple he can marry whoever he wants, no. He must get permission from his wife/wives first, he must be able to support her the same way he supports the other wives. (If one’s gets a home they all get a home) there’s others but those are the main 2
@lilmess52345 күн бұрын
Is there also a kind of hierarchy between the wives? In ancient China when men had multiple wives, there is a “main”/legitimate wife and the rest of them are secondary, they are not supposed to outshine or overpower the main wife. The status also applies to their children. Is this also a rule in Islam?
@promisemochi5 күн бұрын
interesting! i remember when i did a deeper study into the old testament i was blown away by the rules men had to follow for the woman's protection. a lot of times multiple wives were so women would be cared for and looked after. im sure people twist that around to fit their own agendas but i think it's so interesting how originally these rules and allowances stemmed from a thoughtful place in society dating way back when. it's always so fascinating to me

They found some of the most insecure guys for this show. Tho I do feel like this selection of people is a good example of why the dating scene is so hard these days lol. The guys like each other more than they like the girls and aren’t mentally mature enough to realize that they are the drama, meanwhile the girls are in it for the wrong reasons. To clarify some things 1) the reason most of the women want the man to provide 100% is because in islam it is the husbands responsibility to provide for the wives needs. If she wants the man to provide 100% then she needs to be a house wife. In islam , the wife is NOT required to work. She can if she wants to. 2) why amar doesn't want her girlfriend to be a dancer. In islam, women don't show them selves to men that are NOT their husband, fathers, brothers, grandads. As you know the uniform of muslim women is being covered.( abaya, veil etc) so being a dancer is equivalent to your wife being a pole dancer. Ps i don't understand why amar has a problem with that , considering the existence of this show in islam is prohibited. None of them are following any islamic rules. Everyones just picking and choosing what aspect of religion they want to follow lol.
@eo12355 күн бұрын
Think people forget that even though the show is love is blind, it is set in an Islamic country. Islamic countries are governed by religion heavily so there isn’t going be any discussion of sexual content or intimate gestures, especially on national TV. Parents really are watching and it would ultimately be a disgrace to display any of that. It’s definitely a Western thing. This is further reinforced when they keep calling each other a “classic man” aka traditional man.

As a westerner, my experience with Arabs/Muslim couples has been that both the man and the woman are highly educated and successful. I work at a wedding venue and I will say most Islamic weddings we host are very expensive so the families must be well off. just commenting to address some of the questions you asked! ''Arab'' is pronounced ''Ah-Rahb'', not ''Ay-rab''. The majority of the Middle East is muslim, and in Islam men are allowed to be married to 4 women at a given time, provided he treats all 4 equally. (this is ALLOWED but not ''a must thing'' and was established as there were more unmarried/widowed women than men due to wars and illnesses) and finally, Noor's ''influencer''/gold digger-esque personality isnt uncommon in richer arab families - daughters/women in general are often very openly spoilt to raise their standards for potential husbands, and the ''housewife mindset'' isn't uncommon in muslim women (coming from a muslim woman) as islamic family values is very much ''man provides for family. woman works if she wants to. woman raises kids''

Leo, i'm from California and had an online arab friend, he flew me to Dubai and we got married after a week. 12 years later we are still married, im an only wife, I'm Catholic, he just celebrated christmas with us, hes muslim too... sometimes it just works out. The culture was definitely different than what i was used to, i grew up dirt poor, worked 2 shitty jobs to keep afloat, after marriage i was never required to work, I've never paid bills...it sounds like im lazy but i dedicate my free time to art, and charity now, im also a mother and volunteer quite a bit. He's just given me the opportunity to never need to struggle after that's all i did in my life. We can't really speak on intentions of others, only speculate... but these people in the show aren't there for love... As someone exposed to Emirati culture, this is unacceptable. Women do demand providers, and this is normal, traditional...but Emirati women do get higher educations as well and financially contribute. Things are modernizing, but there are still large efforts to keep traditions. Ultimately, their families have the final say, and most will require a provider.

I'm curious. Do you live in Dubai or the US? I've lived for 23 years in Central America/Caribbean after living the first 34 years of my life in the US, so I always find it interesting to hear about others who live in different cultures. I think that's how I initially found some of the commentary channels like sixteenleo from 90 Fiance commentary, although I didn't move here for a romance.
@katooshКүн бұрын
@shethingsd Right now, we are in the U.S. I didn't want to raise my daughter in Dubai. I love arab culture in general and am raising my daughter Arab ( I'm Mexican American), Dubai never felt like home...you can be born there and live there your entire life but you'll never be them and they'll make sure you never forget that. There's good and bad just like any country, but it's just not worth it to me. It really depends on your values as a person if you'll love Dubai or hate it. It was amazing at first because of how I grew up, but after I found love and made goals for myself...I discovered it's not the place I want to be. I wanted to be with my family, I wanted to feel community, and I wanted to feel home. I have so much peace now being back in California. Sometimes moving away is good for people who have different goals, i wouldn't recommend Dubai unless wealth is all you seek.

2:32:04 I agree that when you’re married, most issues should be solved between the couple. BUT! This situation is an exception. Choosing a wedding dress is a huge mother-daughter event. Usually it’s the mother, maybe mother in law, and friends who go and help with picking out a dress. I can understand being stressed because it’s last minute, but honestly, not having the mom help would be atypical.

I personally preferred the Love is Blind Habibi to the American one and I say this as an American. I liked the cultural dynamic way more. I liked that it actually seems like in the Middle East, women are seen as the prize and the men lead more. The US feels like the men are the prize and don’t lead. I also liked that there was no kissing, etc. maybe it’s also because I’m Christian but I just appreciated the honor/shame culture of the Middle East far more than here in America. As one of my co-workers said ‘Americans talk too much and leave nothing to the imagination’ and I couldn’t agree more. Also I feel like someone like Nour would fare better here in the U.S.
@layladavis025 күн бұрын
8:12 no it’s not common. At least not that I’ve seen. Islam laws allow to marry four women but doesn’t mean we all do that. Monogamy is the more common and more socially acceptable form of a relationship in most middle eastern countries. Same as America just legally in Islam you can marry four wife’s.😂 living in America I’ve had people ask me that so much. I think it’s the same with like mormons from what I’ve seen. It’s a small group that believes it multiple wife’s.

In Arab Middle Eastern culture, men provide for their family. It's in the Quran. None of these men are traditional Arab men. Keep in mind that most of these guys are not arabs. please leo, don't say "A-RAB" you sound like an old white man from Texas, and it feels like you're about to tell me to go back to my country 💀. it's *arab*-like you would say *alan*. *arabic* only refers to the language, like how *mandarin* is a language. about the wives thing: no, it's not like mormons. theoretically, men are allowed up to 4, but most people are in monogamous relationships. even if you come across someone with multiple wives, it’s usually someone from an older generation. younger people tend to ask about it more for the 'fun' of it. there are many 'arab'' countries, and customs vary greatly from one to another. i'm north african (not saying that all n.a. people are arabs-i don't want to be crucified), and polygamy is banned in one country here and rare in others. also, the uae is a hella rich country, so really, ''they're not like the other them *aa-rabz*.'' xd

If I am with a man, and we share the same goal of having a family and he understands that my intent is to have, raise, and homeschool those children, than his part of that partnership would be to be the main bread winner. However, partnership is key, the most important thing is to ensure that we both can provide the support the other needs to achieve our goals. Responsibility has to be shared at the end of the day, and how that works out for every couple will be different.
