One thing I want to add, the O-Ring at the main jet should be replaced. It's a cheap replacement (and the same size on the emulsion tube). The original carbs of this series used to be a small gasket but they were very prone to swelling up and blocking gas from passing through correctly. I've had to fix this on my mower and have seen it as the issue on multiple other mower videos as well that mentioned it was basically swollen shut. Otherwise, solid video! I just wouldn't pass up on a $2 repair if you already had it disassembled and was replacing the float seat. Dimensions of those rings are 1/8" ID, 1/4" OD.

Just about the only vid I have ever seen on this extruded aluminium carb by Tecumseh THANKYOU, about to deal with one

You're welcome. They only made them for a few years and I think they abandoned them.

sixtyfiveford I completed the repair and found a bit of gunk jammed down near the main jet, cleared that and it runs like new. Changed oil and fitted new blades - like new now :)

@thefrozendog ........ It's hard to say without having it in my hand but it definitely needs to seat together. I would suspect the the Venturi isnt going far enough down into the bowl.

In the bottom drain that also retains the main jet and spring is a rubber seal between the front of the main jet and the inlet of the base of the venturi tube tower, it sometimes has a tendency to swell,, or experience deterioration with age and close off the fuel flow from the output of the main jet into the venturi tube (the spring pressure on the main jet pressing against it squishes its center flow passage closed) told Tecumseh changed the part because of this ,, use a pick or long screw to remove the seal, and replace with a new one if this happens ,, this can catch people by surprise suspect this if you clean the carb and still have issues with the engine running lean. sometimes it will run fine at idle but lean out under load as that seal deforms under vacuum and the machine will stall under load when governor opens the throttle past a certain point..

Hi I just cleaned my vector carb tecumseh from my riding mower I changed the seet the bowl is good needle also main jet with the spring is fine starts great after 3or4 min it starts to flood & spits gas into the air filter this machine has a diaphragm next to the motor & I also tried bypassing the diaphragm went straight to the carb still floods thanks

The float needle/seat is leaking.

Tryed to rebuild one flooding. Bought a new one on line they are cheap. But it floods as bad as the frist one. Wish I could find a old carb not a plastic one. Motor runs good until it starts to flood.

Where can I get that gasket between the bowl and carb body ?

Thanks for the video! This is the best detailed breakdown of these carburetors that I've found. outdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/tecumseh_series7_carb.asp As Ed Edmund caustically mentioned below, the o-ring behind the main jet is a big concern. With my machine, the o-ring was compressed and deformed due to the constant spring pressure such that the center hole was completely sealed with rubber. Clearly, it needs to be larger than the main jet orifice. I managed to get it out (kind of a B*** to get out of the hole, had to poke it with a pin, and lucked out) and open the hole by removing rubber pieces that had blocked the center hole. I reinstalled it because I didn't have a new o-ring, and in addition, reasoned that the 'fixed' part is possibly superior to a new part, which will eventually deform, slowly closing the hole again. There's either too much rubber in the o-ring, it expanded due to additives or contaminants, or solvents, and/or the spring pressure is too high. The function just has to seal well enough such that the majority of gas flow passes through the main jet orifice rather than flowing around the main jet (under whatever pressure the vacuum is...). I judged that the 'shaped under spring pressure' o-ring would do just fine. Once back together, the engine started instantly and runs smoothly.

Where did you buy that seat gasket from?
@sixtyfiveford4 жыл бұрын
Amazon, Ebay or a handful of other sights have these. They are very easily acquirable with a quick Google search.

I have this same carb and every couple mows I have to take the bottom off and take it partially apart and simply put it back together. Then it will run for awhile until it starts to die. It will restart again, but the period before it dies gets shorter and shorter until it won't stay running. Then I take the bowl off again and look in there, and the above cycle starts again. Any idea whats happening here?
@sixtyfiveford9 жыл бұрын
Thomas Bienduga Sounds like the needle seat is swollen. This means the float engages to early (low) and it isn't allowing enough gas into the carb bowl.

Hi, I know it has been a while since you posted this help here. I wanted to ask a question. on this carburetor, to remove the whole thing to clean it, all I have to do is to simply remove the two long screws? Correct? I am asking because I removed them and the carburetor is still hard to take out. Is it something I need to tap a little with hammer? Thanks for your help and good work.
@sixtyfiveford10 жыл бұрын
Yes, just the 2 long screws. It will sometimes stick to the engine but a tap with the handle of a screwdriver usually breaks it free.
@tiffanygoodness11710 жыл бұрын
sixtyfiveford Hi, thank you sooo very much. I was able to take that out, I cleaned my carburetor and that aluminium block like 4 times already and I can't get the mower started. It started once and ran for like 2 seconds and died. Every single hole so far shows fluid exiting it when I shot cleaning fluid thru them. Is there anything else I should be looking for as a possible source? How much is the float suppose to travel. Mine travels about 1 mm or 2 mm. Any suggestion will help. thanks. tiffany
@sixtyfiveford10 жыл бұрын
The float doesn't move very much. Remove the phillips head screw on the bottom/side of the bowl with the carb hooked up. You are looking to see if a lot of gas comes out of the bowl. It should continue to come out.
@tiffanygoodness11710 жыл бұрын
ok. So, if I remove that head screw and lots of gas starts pouring out, what does that mean and what do I do at that point? If no gas comes out, what does that mean and what's next. You are making my life a little better one answer at a time. thank you sooo much.
@tiffanygoodness11710 жыл бұрын
I did unscrew the phillips head screw, but didn't remove it completely since it was pouring gas in my garage and I didn't have anything to catch it. I watched it run for about 30 seconds before I tightened that back up. Not sure what I just did what it means.

What causes these carburetor to surge?
@sixtyfiveford6 жыл бұрын
Clogged idle jet passage.
@robertjordan35726 жыл бұрын
Is the idle jet passage behind the big screw on the bottom of the bowl if not where is it?
@sixtyfiveford6 жыл бұрын
4:07 in the video is where I spray through the lower half of the idle jet. It connects to the idle jet directly in the upper half of the carb.

I am getting a run and die situation on mine and I cleaned the carb out same carburetor first it was flooding I need a needle and seat but now it's a run and die that's it how is this possible when it's been cleaned out

Sounds like the main jet passage is still partially clogged.

The easiest place is from another used carb. The do sell them but are a little hard to find/locate part numbers for. You can get a new Chinese carb pretty cheap these days amzn.to/2wkmzFC this is for a large riding mower engine but they should have them for small push mowers as well.

I rarely come across them anymore. Tecumseh used them on vertical push mowers and the larger riding mower engines for only a few years. I think it was towards their end. I think is was an attempt to combat the water condensation issues you get with an aluminum fuel bowl.
