Nick will make a cardboard sound good. Nick is da Man. I really liked his vlog back in a day with the TFF west coast tour. I was really disappointed when he stopped with it. Singing backing vocals with the TFF and playing some really interesting grooves with the band was so much fun to watch. And that bold eagle at the Portland Zoo, that was phenomenal,,,,,Great drumming and presentation.

Very unique sounding bass drum. Listening on my phone it has a slight metallic tinge to it. Really like when you play a basic beat with no cymbals. You should do that with all your sound demos.

@bbfoto72487 жыл бұрын
+Sal Rosas - Yup, *Hendrix Archetype Stave Drums* are simply AHMAHZING!!! Best sound I've heard and the best build quality evar. No joke. You have to appreciate Rhett's unique lathe-turned stave shells, with integral ''re-rings''. The 1/2'' thick shell at the batter & resonant bearing edges are part of the original stave shell, and are created by ''carving out'' the mid-section of the 1/2'' thick shells to just 1/4'' thick on the lathe. The ''re-rings'' aren't separate pieces of wood, they are part of the stave. I also like the Hendrix' simple, low mass COA lugs and collared washers for the tension rod/hoop pass-through. And the simple nylon insert strip to keep the tension rods from backing out under heavy hitting or very loose tunings. Yeah, I dreamt about Craviotto's until I discovered Hendrix Drums. :) SJC does some unique & wild things as far as cosmetic customization goes, but as far as what lies *under the surface* in regards to true craftsmanship and artisan-made shells, they just don't compare (IMO). But you certainly can't knock the sound of these SJCs, even if they are made with off-the-shelf Keller shells. Do the type of shells that are used really matter if the drums sound fantastic??? I get that we shouldn't be expected to pay ''custom drum'' money for off-the-shelf shell construction, but as a total package these SJC drums are quite nice...mainly because of the quality of their hardware and finish as well. The basic physics of shell & drum design are fairly constant no matter the shell material. The thickness of the shell, the shape or cut of the bearing edges, and the type of heads and hoops that are used make a much larger difference than the actual shell material. I've heard an acrylic shell kit with custom-cut bearing edges and single-flange copper stick-chopper hoops that sounded absolutely phenomenal. If these drums were included in a blind test, they would have been the clear winner to my ears and preferences. Ultimately, perceived value and desirability will always be in the eyes & ears of the beholder. BTW, NICK *killed it* once again in this demo, as he has with most of the others I've seen. But I especially enjoyed this one. It's wonderful to experience his amazingly diverse talent. Such precise, effortless playing, with excellent phrasing and time signature transitions...just a natural ''feel'' for the music. And yeah, he definitely looked ''baked'' and ''in the zone'' here, LOL. Mad props, Nick!

I may move to new orleans next summer to get gigging and join bands the music scene is crap where I live so I'm getting out of here. I'm going to save up for a 3 peice for jazz blues and rock. Whatever bands I can get into I will no matter the genre. So I'm looking for a all rounder drum set.

Maybe it’s just me in my honest opinion I just don’t like the sound that comes from SJC drums. They all sound the same no matter what series it is it seems like more emphasis is put on the custom part of it as opposed to the sound. In my honest opinion, if you’re gonna pay four grand for drums, then go with a company with sound comes first andthat of course is dw And then looking amazing just happens

Just Keller Shells....
@andyham60947 жыл бұрын
kimmy101 exactly man. I wanted an sjc in the past until I found out that most custom drum companies all use the same shells. Bearing edges do make a big difference but these drums are way overpriced for the basic ass hardware and Keller shells you get with sjc kits. I used to have a basic maple pork pie kit which also use Keller shells and they were good drums, sounds exactly like sjcs with the same kinda basic hardware. I was about to get one of these till I played a tama starclassics BB hyperdrive kit and fell in love with the sound and feel and the amazing innovative hardware that smaller custom drum companies just can't compete with. And plus the starclassic BB 5 piece kit I bought was wayyyyy cheaper than a 3 piece sjc kit. I know this tour series or more produced and cheaper than a custom sjc kit but still overpriced imo. I also got the exact sizes and finish I wanted in my tama starclassic and paid 1,969 shipped straight from the tama warehouse. The hardware tama brought down from the flagship star series drums down to the starclassic drums like the quick lock brackets on the rack toms and floor Tom legs are a hugeeeeeeee difference in setting up and breaking down and having it exact same way each time, and the air cushioned floor Tom legs, the u can't beat that hardware along with the swivel wing Tom mounts which is the best and most versatile comfortable bass drum mount I've ever seen or played. Not tryna hate on these smaller companies cause in fairness they have to price it higher since they don't have the leg work and fancy technology like other big major drum companies but the quality, sound, and feel of a kit like a tama starclassic is a big difference compared to these smaller custom drum companies. But if u have the money and don't mind shellin that money out for this then that's cool and everyone buys what they want with their money but bang for your buck and what you actually get for the price, you can't beat tama starclassics.

SJC currently has a proprietary shell only we use, and in 2018 we'll be making our own shells. Gotta start somewhere, and we're real excited to have the ability to press our own shells in house next year. Keep an eye on us @ Sweetwater for some goodies next year!
@ShawnxEdge7 жыл бұрын
SJC Custom Drums hopefully your own shells sound just as nice as Keller, Kellers are in my opinion are some of the best sounding shells ever made. I much prefer Keller era DW drums, they just sound BIGGER and resonate more naturally vs their over EQ'd XYZ whatever ply shells that actually sound a bit dead unmic'd. I have owned 5 SJC kits, I might have to look for your Keller kits like I do for DW's after you make the switch. I try to keep 3 kits around for various applications. Why fix what isn't broken? Your Keller kits are phenomenal!
