Can you do a “Sketching from Life Tips” video? I’m apprehensive because I feel like I’ll take forever to make the sketch and someone is bound to notice and get weirded out by me.

Lipstick & Lit. Hey! I know I’m not Jess, but I think I can offer a few quick tips in case she doesn’t post a video. The first thing that I do is use a very chunky pen or marker to sketch someone out. You can just focus on the main shapes and structure of a person, while being quick at the same time and not having to worry about someone seeing you. If someone does see you, just remind yourself that they’ll forget about you quickly. Don’t let people’s mentalities get in the way of you practicing. Also, instead of starting with people, you can also sketch out animals and buildings without worrying about them judging you :)

I actually just started my first sketchbook I’d show people. I usually just do a canvas when I want to take time and focus on my precision and detail. I actually really like the thought of having a polished book of work... also, just got alcohol markers so there’s that too. Great work!

I absolutely loved the way the yellow circle came through the other side and even onto the next page! Your work is astounding. I am so impressed and inspired and intimidated all at the same time. I have been learning to draw in pencil, charcoal pencil and some colored pencils. I have also been working through Danny Gregory's book "How To Draw Without Talent" and the rules are pen only. No pencil to get you sidetracked by making things perfect by erasing and trying again. It has really taken the pressure off. Unfortunately so far it hasn't changed how much I erase and fix when I use pencil. I am absolutely terrified to start painting. I'm less scared of the pant than I am the brushes. It's all so foreign to me. I know it's a totally irrational fear, I have art supplies coming out of every corner of my room and books upon books and workbooks. But then I get so stuck watching these videos and soaking it all in and screenshotting from the free sites (not that I'd be selling anything or that my work could ever come close to the caliber of the ones I enjoy watching. I wish I had started younger. I'm 47 and just picked this up around January with a very stuffed dot journal and now that I have retired that one I am taking the drawing more seriously in my new journal and am waiting on a new moleskin sketchbook. I have a ton watercolor books and paper because I was doing some mixed media stuff. I just don't know what it will take for me to get out of my own way....out of my head. Does everybody struggle with this?
