Thanks for breaking down her complex outfit into simpler shapes. Makes it less intimidating 😄

I really appreciate these videos. When I started drawing I was really bad at proportions, but learning to draw loosely really allowed me to break down different shapes and negative space, as well as the overall characteristics of a photo in a way i just cant seem to do as well when i draw with pencil. New sub :)

I really enjoyed watching this sketching and listening to your describing the process. Observational sketching is a lot more fun and creative even if at first we are not very good at it. It comes with practice. Just discovered your channel and now I'll keep watching and learning from you. Thanks for the video!

That was great, Scottie! It seems that getting the proportions right is important for the loose sketches - if the proportions look right, the whole sketch looks right, especially with people.

Thanks so much Jaqaroo! Yea it's working out the balance between proportions and looseness👍🏼

Hi there, my people sketching is coming on leaps and bounds thanks to your encouragement and tutorials. Thank you very much. But can I ask your opinion on this . . . I’m wanting to sketch people in public places, saying the park, or in a coffee shop. What are the protocols on such a thing? Do you/ should you ask their permission? I’m talking about a sketch where the person, hopefully, would be recognisable, rather than a little one where the people are in the distance and unidentifiable. And in the latter case, they’d be too far away to ask anyway. I wonder what other sketchers think/do about it? Thank you
@SketchingScottie11 ай бұрын
I sit far enough away for it to not be problem. I never ask unless I ask someone who is chatting to me first 😊. The main thing is not to make people uncomfortable so I try to be discreet.

@@SketchingScottie thanks for this sketching Scottie. It’s going ok in actual fact. Most people seem to like it, and if someone took against, I’d just agree to tear it up. Anyway, I’m enjoying the whole process very much.

in no way novice will start with the hat and make it and everything else in right proportion.. it’s a nice video but not realistic unless person already is experienced

Observational sketching techniques don’t suit everyone but I actually think it’s great for beginners! I have many beginners on my Patreon doing amazing work without having to spend years studying and practicing anatomy. It’s a lot of fun 🤩

i did it today and it worked for me with only a few discrepancies. standing positions were significantly easier than sitting if you’re having trouble
