Based on the origin of the centered component you could set the position as being half of whatever the total width is. I use that alot for windows, and things like mullion spacing too.

I'm a more advanced user but have always had trouble with Dynamic Components. Love to see a separate series on them so those that are still newer and still getting up to speed don't waste too much time on these till they are ready. I found Dynamic Components too advanced when I was still trying to grasp the basics of Sketchup and Layout.

As an IT nerd, I'm always interested in the attributes you can add to DC. I'm fairly new to SketchUp (2 years) and am finding a lot of value in your videos, great presentation! I would be interested in a whole series on DC. My hobbies and interests are woodworking and remodeling. I can see this skill builder useful in building stud walls!

This series on Dynamic Components has been very educational. My issue is on how to effectively use Components and DC's. For example, it does not appear to be effective to use DC's, or even plan Components for decking. Especially on a diagonal when trimming is required. I'm looking forward to any guidance you may have to offer.

Great Series on Dynamic Components. Thank You. I have a suggestion for an episode. I have a mortise and tenon component with a key piece which locks the two sections together. However I was hoping to have a conditional on click that required the joint to be assembled in the right place before the key could be inserted. I've tried to code it with the IF but am having trouble with the syntax.

A great series of Skill Builders. I would like to see it taken to the next level by showing what the other built in functions can do. Also, I think you did once mention something about nesting levels (in no. 7?) but as it is not obvious and can get you into serious doodah if you ignore it, it might be worth reinforcing - just an idea!

In ACAD I use dynamic blocks for variations on a theme: my chair block has 5 different chairs in it, and the user chooses from a list when you click the block; same with tables, staging, podiums, etc... I assume it's possible in Dynamic Components (and I'll noodle on it), but maybe that's a topic worth considering?

Super useful, I'm learning tons about DC, thank you for making videos. Something I haven't figured out yet: I have a house wall that I want to dynamically size. In that wall I have a cut-outs for a window and a door. I want to be able to specify both the size and the position of the door and window cut-outs. I can see a solution where I kinda treat the wall like the picture frame example, but is there a more efficient method?

Hey, Erin. Thanks for the great tutorials! I was wondering if there is a way to make sections in the component options panel? Example for a door: Have a section for door size, casing size, and jamb size. Then you had an advanced component even providing different door styles. I feel like this would make it easier for a user to find and change options.

Not in exported animations. One option is to screen-record your SketchUp window as you Interact with the DC. Alternatively, there are some animation extensions that allow you to export animations with moving geometry. Fredo6: Animator is one of them- sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=Animator

This was the first video I watched in this series because it seemed to be what I wanted to know right now... I didn't try it yet but I think "=(Spacing-Rung!LenZ)+Copy*Spacing" in run position Z would be handy assuming you could adjust the rung size I'm thinking about wainscoting while watching this if that makes more sense, haven't tried assuming I'm onto something. It takes more writing if your just doing a ladder it's wasted seconds and thinking. I probably should have tried it before I posted sorry.

Great Skill Builder - helpt me to create dynamic components als SketchUp Beginner. It would be werry helpfull if you could add a Part 9 with Do's and Don'ts. I managed to make my component move on the Y axis but if I change its position in space it always returns to the first position defined in the "Y" attribute, I can only move it on the X and Z axes, the Y axis is restricted to the value entered in the formula. I followed this tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3LJlJuOprplldE and the same thing happens. How do I make a dynamic component that moves on the Y axis but that I can move to any position?
