Eek, bidirectional brushing with steel as at 8:00 is a big no-no, especially now that a good number of newer metal brushes from Red Creek, Swix, and others have "tilt" built into the bristles such that they're only designed to run one way. Even with old straight-bristle metal brushes the bristles gradually deform with use and become tilted over time, and you should keep them always running in the saw way to avoid having them "stab into" the base. The first thing I do with every brass or steel brush is mark arrows for direction. Everything else here is spot-on though IMO.

His structure isn't all that unique. What makes it look weird is the moire pattern that forms because the resolution of his camera is close to the frequency of the structure.

What would you do with the race ski if base damage? Just P-Tex ?
