very glad to find this channel - doing first hyrox in a few months and am new to the erg & sleds

I hated the ski erg before I started hyrox training, now I love it. The breathing was key for me, inhale with arms overhead … out on the effort. Also using my back rather than my arms, otherwise my tris get way too pumped. Nice vids chap. Thanks.

I had a go at the ski erg tonight for the first time as part of a mini hyrox test. I was averaging 2.07 pace. I was pretty disappointed and it felt really hard. I'm going to try these tip and hope that they help.

Love the topic, and your take is spot on. Also when looking at the steep exponential increase in watts/second as pace gets faster, I strongly believe that there is no point going lower then 1:45-1:47 pace. No matter how elite you are at skierg you are better off reducing heartrate and saving energy for the run. This is alteast my opinion

Agreed! You'd have to be a skierg machine to push that kind of pace and stay in control.

Any tipps if you Dont have acces to a skierg? Like what movement can train instead? Great Video btw

Great tips! Would you go on your toes to add the length of the strokes?

It's a bit more energy but it should be fine for short duration as long as you stay connected through your upper body.

Sled pull: Just legs (shuttles of walking back with arms extended) or, legs and arms (sit back, drive back, pull with arms, repeat)?

Your podcasts and KZbin content is must listen/watch. I have a question about Hyrox, but not the skierg. I'm doing my first Hyrox in Dallas on April 9. Do you think the new Nike shoes, zoomx streakfly, would be a good choice? I'm concerned about the traction for the sled push/pull. Thanks in advance for your response.

Thanks Dirk. I’ve used the alphaflys on a carpet in the past and the traction was better than I thought. The streakfly has basically the same outsole so I think they could work. However I’d want to feel what the heel counter and the curve of the platform before I’d recommend it bc those are a big downside for the alphafly. I hope it works because they look great.

Great video, is there any benefit in trying to do the ski erg or rowing machine quickly ? Or is it better to go a slow pace …take 10 seconds longer which could then benefit you for the race ?
@RichRyan2 жыл бұрын
There is always a benefit to going faster - but it will cost you a bit later in the race if you overextend - especially on the SkiErg. I suggest finding an effort that is somewhere in between slow and fast. Something you can hold without needing to really push yourself beyond the line.
