This is great and exactly what I have been struggling with. I stumbled across your BTM article from February describing this and had a revelation. "Get inside the ball" they say. But not this way lmao. I worked for years to get inside the ball only to spin it and wonder why my track got so low. On video everyone said my hand position looked great, but couldn't figure it out. It's because I had the hand inverted like you and had to spin to get back to normal axis rotation. Had the same problems. Had to use super strong balls to get them to read the lane, only to have them run out of energy or burn up until g3 when things opened up finally.

Since incorporating drills into my practice, I’ve noticed I have been able to stay in the ball longer and can see a difference in my ball roll. Thanks for the great tips Valerie! Please keep them coming!

What you are saying is true. Axis rotation isn't always bad. It there is dry boards to the right you get some extra area to the right. The trick is to increase or decrease rotation when it is called for.

Yes, agreed. I was primarily referring to tilt, which for most people is completely unnecessary and doesn’t improve ball reaction!
@bobgomavitz1330

This is soo me! I get it as I’ve been trying to stay inside to reduce tilt and it truly can increase tilt if done incorrectly. Very hard to change from a high tilt to staying inside the ball and being more forward. You presentation makes sense to have a better chance at decreasing tilt and less of going back to your old way. All the leaves that you mentioned happen to me and it’s a hard read as a league bowler. So much more controllable and less over under results which never helps scoring. I’ll work on your tips and see if I can reduce mine…baby steps I must remind myself. Great info and relating it back to your viewer

Love the video, my tilt is naturally low or track near thumb and been trying to do the opposite ( your before shot ). Nice Video ! Thanks

That's amazing! I wish mine was naturally low haha but it's good to have different releases for different conditions.

ok this is good information; I've been struggling with the same issue and for the longest time. I did not understand what was going on, I was feeling like all my equipment was hooking too much and I could not understand why, so now I do like you say, I keep the index finger close to the middle finger and spread the pinky out a little and when I release, I'm focusing on staying more under the ball and I really just let the ball roll off the hand without any turn knowing that the ball will hook on its own, and its been working out much better with good predictable smooth ball motion.
@bowlwithVALue
@bowlwithVALue 12 күн бұрын
🙌🙌 that’s the best way, IMO. “Less is more” so to speak. So glad you’re trying it. Have you found your ball reaction to be more consistent and carry to be better??
@daviddeiss7907
@daviddeiss7907 12 күн бұрын
@@bowlwithVALue yes for sure, in fact at times I thought the problem was the lanes and that was why I was seeing a little over under ball motion some times, but really it was just me trying to do to much with my hand and so once I stopped doing that I found it to be way better, especially with the consistency of the ball motion, now I can actually tell if I'm actually getting over under reaction instead of be confused about it like before.

Thank you for sharing this video! the backup ball didn't hook much but gave me an idea to shoot spares while maintaining a high track. i recently am having tons of trouble with straight shooting and intentionally try to imagine i'm going to do a back up ball.

Valerie, thank you for this tip. It has helped me considerably. I am 67 years old and throw 14 pounds so if I don’t get some side roll I flat 10 all day. As such, I turn fingers only till thumb is 12 o’clock. May I ask, you do not slide leg (close) in but you close the gap very well. How do you accomplish this? Is it how you “seat” going into the slide? Thx Carl

My track is always closer to my fingers and farther from my thumb. Not sure what that means. I also am more up the back of the ball but mine don't do what yours is doing i think because I'm not as much under the ball. I also have 20 tilt with 35 rotations. I'm definitely going to work on these drills more than what I have. Great video
@lazyarrow
@lazyarrow Ай бұрын
Track closer to the fingers and slightly away from the thumb is an "Inverted Roll". This type of roll is mainly caused by one's wrist position. There is nothing wrong with it. Ironically, two-handed players have this type of roll, although a few conventional rolling players have it as well, such as yourself (presumably). It is also known as a strong hand roll.

Valerie, it would be nice to see how you hold your ball in the beginning of your stance and then how you turn it back like you said to be behind it and then your full release with the full approach maybe even slow motion… can you do that? That’s what I’m trying to do which is not have so much tilt.
@bowlwithVALue
@bowlwithVALue 13 күн бұрын
Great question! I will see about having a different camera angle for a video like that….might need to recruit a “camera man” for that vs having a tripod like I usually do haha
@JSBowling2011

@bowlwithVALue that would be really great, and as I've been working on my game I'm getting closer on moving up my tilt slowly but surely and the ball reaction is much more consistent with much better carry.

So, when you do have to open up your angles, how do you increase your axis rotations without again increasing your tilt? I'm a high tilt player even when I roll it forward, Been working on decreasing my tilt, but as soon as I have to open the lane up, which is usually pretty common for me as I'm a higher rev lower speed player, it feels like I can't get enough access rotation without increasing my tilt
@roughrosa
@roughrosa Ай бұрын
I am struggling with this. I learn it that way with lots of axis tilt 10-15 years ago and stuck a habit with it until now. When I don’t axis tilt, I tend to not cup the ball and it forward rolls and the ball goes straighter, with less revs too. I am gonna try this method and see if changes anything. But I can see that it strains the wrist less and more efficient during bottom swing to hold briefcase style.

I totally get what you’re saying. Once you get the right feel, it’ll make sense. I rec taking a video so you can see what you’re doing and try to make corrections. Or hiring a good coach. The drills help to simplify then you can put it into practice in your full approach 🙏

What about if you need to rotate the ball as you move far left? More axis rotation. That should not effect your track?
@bowlwithVALue
@bowlwithVALue 12 күн бұрын
Great question! Using your thumb to rotate the ball creates tilt (spin), getting your thumb out and using your fingers to rotate around it just creates axis rotation. So you definitely need to have rotation and sometimes tilt as you move farther left!

I have one. I just recently got my wife a bowling gauntlet. A robbie rev 3. She's having difficulties using it. She wants to suitcase it, but ends up holding onto the ball for too long and the ball ends up spinning 120 degrees (Backwards). I'm trying to get her to come up the back of it, but she feels defeated. Might be a topic to touch on, how to use one.
