I'm in Louisiana helping all these kind great people, sleeping in my truck at the moment, what should I be charging for a level 5? And also can I do two coats skim over some texture? These people just want to get back into their homes so, perfect isn't a thing. I want to get as close to perfect as possible. And slowly build my arsenal. I'm no pro at drywall, roofing and flooring for 20 years, with occasional drywall repairs and skip trowel texture.

Hi Kilted Guy! Thanks for ALL your helpful vids! You rock! QUESTION: I’m a somewhat skilled, “out of practice” remodeler (I left it behind 23 yrs ago but now find myself restoring 100 yr old family home) Q: What size skim coating blade do you recommend or like the best? 24”, 32”, or 40” … PS: I’m 5’4” 110 lbs… so not SUPER strong. What do you recommend?
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY Жыл бұрын
I find the most versatile size to be 24 inch or 32 inch. If you were going to coat wide repairs or butt joints, the 32 inch is my favorite

I had a company skim coat the plaster problems in my bathroom. They used a quick setting 20 minute mud, according to the company that hired the sub contractors who are Spanish. The mud around the air vent was still not dry 24 hours later so I stuffed the vent to block it off. I want to know if this mud is OK for the bathroom and shower. I plan to seal it with Zinnser 123 primer and then paint it also. So two coats of water based latex. The product is much more sandable than spackle I used in the dining room on that plaster. I just worry about this product holding up and also the water issue in the bathroom. Thanks and I like the channel.

I have a question, I’ve used gardz before on walls you recommended, but now I have a wall where a friend pulled all the paper off and the white crumbling rock is exposed. If gardz is applied directly to the white crumbly rock will the hot mud not adhere? Or should that spot just be replaced with a small section of drywall cut from a new piece.
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 3 жыл бұрын
If all of the paper is gone, it’s best to just replace that section of sheet rock. Otherwise you would need to apply a coat of hot mud and a super wide sheet of fibafuse to re-enforce the face of the drywall. Cutting it out is easier in your case.

I can finish walls like this so fast that for me it’s faster than all the demo, nail pulling, and hauling the trash all through the house, hauling new rock in, going to the store for the rock, etc. And it was plenty solid.

I kind of realised didn't understand why After giving it to good Coats of primer on new dry wall You could always see the smooth Surface where Drywall compound was finished. My solution was trying to use a Thicker roller over the drywall compound in thinner for the rest sometimes it works but not the best. Is there an easier way to do level 5
