Dr. Dray thank you for the video. One thing I would educated women on is the importance of Vitamin D3 and low levels being linked to having a higher rate of developing an autoimmune disease Multiple Sclerosis. I am 44 yrs old and since I was a teenager wore SPF daily throughout the year, hats as well. Minimized my time in the sun. With vanity loved people's reaction that they assumed I was ten years younger. Than in March 2021, I had went paralysis from T4 bilateral to my toes and diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. The Neurologist explained to me several evidence based studies believe to be a link in the prevention of MS is keeping your Vitamin D level up. Mine was 12 ng/ml at the time of dx. I know take daily Vitamin D3 with K2 for better absorption and 3 months later it's 44 ng/ml. I agree 100% about sun protection however, in retro spect I wish I would of been on a Vitamin D3 supplement. Thank you to all that read this.

I have worn sunscreen daily since about the 4th or fifth grade and my mother was always good about making me wear sunscreen when I was out in the sun, which really wasn't that often. Even so, I began to develop skin issues at 24, which was difficult and I have never really been happy with my skin since. In my late twenties I was diagnosed with Vitamin D definciency and I think it must have been quite severe because I felt achy throughout my body. After my Vitamin D levels were restored, I began to feel much better. I have always wondered, though, how to balance the need for Vitamin D with skin protection since they say you need to be in the sun for your body to make Vitamin D. Also, spending some time outdoors has a psychological benefit, at least for me. I would love to hear your thoughts on this in a future video. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I always enjoy your videos!

Agreed. I wish there was more nuance in her opinions on sun exposure. Also there are varying skin complexions and UV rays are different at different latitudes. I imagine the damage is far worse for someone with light skin living in California than someone like me in vancouver where there is no sun. I need all the sun I can get here ! Also became vit D deficient from living here the last 4 years, have seen immense benefits overall since taking 4000 IU per day for about 3 months now

Sun is life. Our body needs it for optimal health. It regulates our sleep which is mentioned as being important. But no mention of how to get that sleep. Check out circadian rhythm and how light exposure regulates it. Also Vitamin C is very important.

It’s so true. My family complained about me for being too fair and not being healthy at all. I avoided sun all these years due to migraines but I took their advice - I wanted to look less fair so I started exposing myself to the sun these two years and I didn’t use sunblock religiously like before. Then I got tanned but I noticed I started looking old. 😖😖😖 I have compared my old pictures to the latest pictures, my skin has changed from a darker shade to a lighter shade, my wrinkles especially under my eyes look obvious and there more side effects due to sun exposure. Anyway, I will try avoid the sun as much as I can now.

I am 60 years old now and grew up in the sun fishing with my family on the boat in the ocean and sunscreen was unheard of. I also did a ton of sunbathing. We lived on the lake and I vacationed in the sun and had Tanlines all year round. I only used Hawaiian Tropic sun oil. I got very dark. Now it’s 60 and I have a little fine lines all over my face. I also had basal cell carcinoma skin cancer on my chest. None of this showed until later on down the road. My doctor told me that the skin cancer on my chest must’ve started a long time ago. I am not particularly light-skinned either I have a medium light medium skin. But I roasted myself and never put anything on my face. In fact I am surprise I look as good as I do probably because I take good care of it. So people listen up to this lady she knows her stuff!

There is also a global problem with Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency which increases risks of cancer, diabetes, and other diseases. People like myself have low Vitamin D levels even though I supplement with 5000 to 10000 IUs a day. How do you propose people get enough Vitamin D while also protecting their skin?

When it comes to sun protection: What about vitamin D production??
@kathyburton20083 жыл бұрын
Not everything is text book, some dermatologists have gotten things wrong with my skin in the past. I have been experimenting for 30 years of my life and I have noticed that sun, inflammation and lack of protein is the biggest cause of my skin aging. The best diet for me is no vegetable oils but a little coconut oil and olive oil, no grains or factory farmed meat and dairy. I eat mostly high fat feta cheese and butter, raw vegetables, greens, potatoes, leafy salads, cabbage salads and omega 3 rich fish ,butter and meat, when Iim not eating enough protein I eat more chicken and broth and that gives my skin an immediate collagen boost, so I make sure I get good quality protein from chicken, fish and eggs. Echinachia tincture orally and topically have amazing benifts for the fibrrblasts of the skin and I also think lavender oil is amazing too especially for acne prone skin, double cleansing and massage is really helpful and lastly i have noticed through my life that fasting, exerciseing outside like walking in the fresh air and swimming in the sea really helpful too. I don't agree with completely avoiding the sun so I try to get 20 min of sun on my back with a natural low SPF and get a little sun on my face hands and feet using a high SPF. Since eating more chickenn and protein from grass fed animals, high fat lower carbs with no fruit except for Berry's.i have noticed a difference.

Thanks for sharing! To add to this, some people say that we absorb collagen peptides from cows better than from fish because we're more genetically aligned with cows. But this is not necessarily true! There is also research showing just the opposite!

Is Near Infra Red light damaging to collagen? I'm interested in a red light panel that has NIR as an option.
@elizabethwilliams56213 жыл бұрын
That’s what im wondering too because I thought that light was shown to help with collagen?
@tracy30813 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethwilliams5621 Red light does help build collagen. I was a little confused this morning . I was thinking NIR was IR, but I'm thinking it's not, it's just nearing those wavelengths. I believe all red light devices have NIR, some have options to turn it off. I have a handheld red light devicw that has 660nm, 850nm which is NIR, and a couple other wavelengths. I think it works but I'm actively looking into panels because they take less time (you can just relax and let it do its thing) and provide full coverage, and I hate having to roll it around my face. With the handheld devices you can get uneven coverage. I have zero connection to the company I'm about to mention but I figured I'd mention it bc it may help someone. I've just about settled on the PlatinumLED BioMax series. It seems to be the best of the bunch .

@@user-wb8rt7eo5v I responded but it disappeared somehow. I came back to update because I found out some more info. Anyway, maybe I have to leave company names out, idk? Today, before tapping the pay button on the red light I chose, I decided to go back and look into onother popular company which I decided against because of its price and lack of as many wavelengths. They are very well regarded so the info has me questioning what to do. They refer to a the inverse square law and red light. A study was performed and showed that red light despite its power is only beneficial at a very close distance. The study shows that at a distance of only 2 or 3 inches, the benefits are negligible . The red light panel companies advise to stand no closer than 6 inches to the lights. I wrote a couple panel companies today and asked about this. If you like, I would be happy to share the info I get.

Infrared radiation from the sun is different that NIR. The right intensity of infrared light, which is determined by its wavelength and duration, may actually have a healing effect by increasing the cell renewal process and stimulating anti-inflammatory cytokines. Optimal wavelengths of infrared light may also have an anti-aging effect on the skin by stimulating collagen.

I'm not sure if collagen helps my skin but I take it everyday to help my joints. I messed my body up from being formally morbidly obese. It's helped improve my function with activity. I've also recently noticed a buttload of baby hairs growing but I'm not entirely sure it's do to the collagen though.
