MORNING 1. Use Salicylic Face Wash every morning; you could also use it twice a day --- Lather, apply (avoiding eye and mouth area), let sit for a few minutes, then rinse --- you can also use a moisturizer in between (the same one used at night) 2. Use sunscreen every day NIGHTTIME 3. Wash your face + gentle cleanser 4. Use a moisturizer (niacinamide & licorice); no need for a separate serum 5. Retinol or Adapalene (topical vitamin A, help with skin cell turnover & keep pores clear)

Thank you Dr. Dray, I'm a late 40s, very fair skinned Black man, and your skin care advice has been excellent. Retin-A Micro at night, Vanicream moisturizer, Cerave sunscreen, my acne scars have smooth, dark spots have disappeared, skin is bright & healthy looking. I spent years on expensive lasers & chemical peels but following Dr. Dray's advice for the last year, my skin looks the best it's ever looked with affordable products. Dr. Dray you are a Godsend.

Hey, this may not help you but it helped me to reduce my oily skin. I switched to a hydrating cleanser (cerave hydrating cream to foam or la roche posay hydrating cleanser) and I started using a thicker cream like cerave cream, rather than the lotion. And tbh, my skin got a lot less oily. Probably because my face wasn’t in overdrive to hydrate the skin more. It helped some people like me, but I thought I might tell you in case you want to dry it.

For Acne awareness month, could you break down different types of acne and if there are any treatments for different types? Like hormonal acne for instance
@msi8311
@msi8311 3 жыл бұрын
I have had hormonal acne since December 2020. I had it in December 2018-July 2019 and it cleared on its own. Now it’s lingering much longer and I have to decide whether to use isotretinoin or not. I don’t have hair to shed, that would maybe be worse than the hormonal acne is shedding 50% of my hair, so I don’t know what to do. My Derm and primary care seem to have less information than I do (because they have said so) and it breaks my confidence in trusting them.

I believe Dr Dray has spoken about this in many of her vids. All these actives that she mentioned in this video are highly effective at treating many types of acne, except for nodules and cystic. Salicylic Acid Cleanser in the morning and Adapalene at night will make a huge difference. You can also add Azelaic Acid for a better result. Always start slow. Introduce each active one by one. For example, if you choose to try Salicylic Acid first, use it for at least 2 weeks, and if your skin can tolerate it, you can add Adapalene into your routine.
@meganepelletier853

@@msi8311 What have you been using to treat the acne so far? If it cleared up on its own the first time, I suppose you sought medical attention after the December 2020 breakouts, aka about 6 months ago? I doubt you've had time to try many avenues of treatment in that time frame, so if you're scared of hair loss/dryness with isotretinoin I'd seek other treatment options first (eg. topicals (retinoids, bha, aha, benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, spot treatments, etc.), oral contraception, doxycycline, spironolactone) . Even when my acne was at it's worst isotretinoin was considered a last resort option because of the side effects. If you feel like your dermatologist is not as helpful as you'd like you can always seek a second opinion and perhaps look for someone who specializes in more severe acne cases.

My derm pretty much told me topical products won't do anythinf for acne spots and hyperpigmentation (besides something like tretinoin). He said it requires a physical treatment like microneedling. It's the most cost effective & successful way to completely even out skin tone and get rid of spots. Otherwise you're spending hundreds on skincare products for months (if not years) trying to get those spots to go away.

Really? I feel like products help me woth hyrepigmentation
@kaylan2083
@kaylan2083 3 жыл бұрын
@@marijaperkovic4384 most scars and hyperpigmentation are deep in the dermis. Topical products applied to the top layer of skin (epidermis) aren't going to reach those spots or do anything to lighten them. Only exfoliants and microneedling can gradually remove layers of skin to bring those scars from deep in the dermis to the surface and disappear/lighten them. Microneedling causes skin to turnover much quicker...thus a few treatments bring those spots to the surface in a couple of weeks/months as opposed to a year or more of just using topical products and letting skin shed on its own.
@inkompetenzkompensationsko4188

I guess it really depends on the specific dark spots. If they're super deep and red/purple, getting rid of them with regular products won't work but if its just the upper layers of the skin topicals will be fine. If you're spending hundreds of dollars for products or for micro needling in his office is the real question here.
@kaylan2083
@kaylan2083 3 жыл бұрын
@@inkompetenzkompensationsko4188 right--they work if your scars are right at the epidermis/top level. But if you're someone with deep deep spots in your dermis, you might as well shell out the $ once and be done with it, rather than spending hundreds/thousands over the course of several years on serums, exfoliants, etc.

Guys for sure it's a great advice but for me personally what helped a ton was laser. You have to go to a doctor that really specializes in laser treatments so they can choose the laser based on your skin. But honestly, the biggest difference in redness out of everything I have done, and I had a lot of redness because of the heavy acne I had when I was young and some from a chemical burn. Laser REALLY helped for both.

Any ideas why azelaic acid hasn't made it into the drugstore lines? It works so well for post acne marks. I'm pretty sure it would have been mentioned in this video if it was in a mainstream product that WalMart carried.

I’ve been enjoying both of those sunscreens. I use the Cetaphil mineral face liquid first, and then use the Cerave tinted one on top to hide the white cast. It’s nice for summer, but I’ll probably have to find a different combo for winter due to the tint being orangey.

Yay, I just got a 10% vit. B3 (ik, it's unnecessarily high %) + zinc pca + sarcosine serum and a retinal serum. I started incorporating the former one about a week ago, so far no irritation, but I'm not exactly sure when should I start seeing improvement. 🤔 We will see...

glad to see u getting more of that walmart bag! 💰 thank you for addressing acne and associated issues. You read my mind because I've actually been breaking out more than usual lately and I'm not sure why. I've had acne since I was like 11 or 12 and it's been a long endless battle. I'm literally almost 30 and I still have a tall ass order of acne everywhere on my body 😂 I just have to laugh. I'm also looking into how my diet might be a culprit, like dairy etc. which I know you've also talked about.. anyway I'm already doing a lot of what you mentioned here, but you reminded me there's still more skincare weapons at my disposal to try. ❤️

I am so impressed w the Cetaphil sunscreen too. They killed it with their first line of “real” (non-moisturizer water resistant) spfs. So much better than Cerave non-tinted ones imo. I think the Cetaphil liquid one is actually almost an exact match for the Colorscience total face shield original formula, sans the tint obviously. If Cetaphil could tint that thing, we’d have a drugstore dupe!

Thank you Dr. Dray. You have simplified my entire skin routine and taught me the importance of sunscreen. At the age of 49, my skin has never looked better! Quick question, every night, I put on Tretinoin and it‘s been great for my skin. Would I still need to buy a Retinol cream?
@Nfsmth

No. Tretinoin is also type of vit A derivates, and it is more potent than usual retinol. So keep on track with tretinoin imo.
