My family laughs at me for being so "obsessed" with sunscreen! I have 4-5 different kinds in my boat-bag as well as in my purse--they think I'm crazy that I don't want to get tanned. But my skin looks ten years younger than it really is! Thanks to YOU!

I can relate so much 😂 they laugh at me all the time...... Purchasing sunscreen that leaves white cast didn't help it 😂 (I use it only when I am at home cause I don't want to throw it into trash) But at the end of the day, I know the science behind it. Sunscreens are important.

You're such a sweet, funny, honest kid. I'm 64 and love your videos. I was a sun-worshipper - no sunscreen ever. Only used moisturizer when skin red from sunburn. [I KNOW - what can I say !]. My skin ain't pretty! I wasn't looking to be 20 years younger, just look okay for my age. But when doing research to see if I could EVER help my skin I came across YOU. I watched your videos relevant to me. Because you're so damned knowledgeable I took your advice, [whilst still researching. [sorry!] I now knew the few basic things I needed to start. Only a few months later, now adding a few extras , my skin is no longer grey and pallid. Still working on it obviously !!! Thank you so much Andrea. ♥♥♥ Pat [Noosa, Qld. Australia]

I stopped tanning at 17 and stayed out of the sun as much as possible. I am now 67 and I can’t remember if there even was sunscreen at that time. I know there were products to help you improve getting a good tan. For me, it was just that I noticed older people who were in the sun a lot had so many wrinkles. Then at age 30, I developed Vitiligo. Started as a spot on one hand and increase drastically each year. I live in a cold climate so I would have no idea how much the vitiligo had progressed until summer. My family has had a beachfront cottage for 53 years so of course I was on the beach with my 4 kids and grandchildren every summer. Not only was I lathered in sunscreen but I wore long skirts, long sleeves, hats and everything to cover my skin. If I missed a spot where there was no pigment, I would burn within 15 minutes. It was not really fun and the vitiligo was very visible except for my face, as I am very pale naturally. So heavy makeup would help. But I lived through self tanning lotions, body make up - vitiligo is very disfiguring. I am now in end stage vitiligo and the one thing that came out of all the frustration is that my skin is still in good condition. Not the best way to avoid the sun’s damaging rays, but really no choice.

I'm so sorry that you went through that. Truly I feel for you. A friend of mine has the Vitiligo. She has a lot of support from friends and family. It must be a big help for someone with it. Good to know that you managed it well and protected yourself from sun damage.

@@LilBoPeep777 Thanks Christie. Happy to hear your friend has a lot of support. I was fortunate in that I was extremely pale, so my face was easily covered. Plus I was older when it really started to spread. My husband said he didn’t notice or care. So lots of support there. It is younger people, especially teenagers, who have a difficult time. Appearances are so important at that age. I really feel for them.

BTW, I also used lip sunscreen when it came out. You have to cover everything. It also prevents your lips from collapsing as you age. I am sure everyone knows that Michael Jackson had vitiligo. People accused him of trying to make himself “white “, but he literally was turning white.

The procedures you mention in this video do work very well, as I've had them and seen good results. I will have to try the Skinceuticals product you mention...thanks! The key post-procedure and going forward is wear sunscreen and a hat. I had a good-sized basal cell carcinoma removed from my scalp a couple of years ago and now wear a hat with SPF protection whenever I'm planning to be outside.

Azelaic acid (20%) every night works the best for me. I didn't put it on last night and have blocked pores already (especially on my nose and a pimple!). Just about to apply azelaic now....Ego brand Azclear Medicated Lotion. I don't use it under makeup/sunscreen as it pills. (Use a retinol at night too e.g. Retin-A). 👱‍♀️❤

I use The Ordinary Peeling Solution once a month at night. I was using it once a week just because the instructions said I could. I couldn't understand why my skin was so inflamed even though my acne wasn't surfacing like it promised would happen. Also the instructions said once a week! Why was my skin reacting so badly?? I finally made myself stop for one whole month and my skin calmed down SO much! Now I do it once a month and still get amazing results

Some people's skin is just more sensitive than others. I agree that once a week is way too much for most. You don't need to peel off the top layer of your skin every week, The Ordinary. 🙄

Mostly same as with lighter skin I think. With me I get hyperpigmentation, mostly around my mouth and places where I have healing acne spots or eczema. So skin colour gets darker in certain places and results in very uneven skin tone on the face and neck

Your cell phone has a blue light filter setting that you can turn on. Search the computer monitor settings for a blue light filter. If it doesn't have one , you can order a blue light blocking screen protector that connects to the monitor. I'd recommend looking on Amazon for it. They do sell the light blocking screen protectors.

Let me be the voice from a senior citizen with major sun damage. Yeah that was me laying out there on the beach in my bikini with my beautiful suntan. I just finished my latest skin cancer treament. I've had liquid nitrogen, red light therapy, and laser treatment, plus three skin cancer surgeries. I've spent thousands of dollars trying to correct all the sun damage, not to mention the pain and downtime. I stopped sunbathing 10 years ago but it was too late. The damage can be treated like Dr. Dray says, and I am taking good care of my skin now. But it's a lot easier, and cheaper, to just prevent sun damage before it happens. 😊

"Skin cell turnover" and exfoliation. Are those words used interchangeably? If not, what's the difference? TY!
@simplychaos444
@simplychaos444 3 жыл бұрын
not necessarily - physical exfoliaters just remove the dead skin cells from the surface of the skin but don't actively help produce newer skin cells or support cell turnover - some chemical exfoliaters do tho so I believe there lies the difference
@raraavis7782
@raraavis7782 3 жыл бұрын
Think of it that way: skin cell turnover is the natural rate of your skin renewing itself from the inside. Exfoliation is the act of removing dead skin cells by chemical or mechanical means. Neglecting the latter, might result in dull skin or blemishes (for some people, not everyone, obviously). Overdoing it will result in raw, irritated, sensitive skin and a compromised skin barrier.
