mini dermatologist in practice- use it on one dark spot that’s singled out and try not to everywhere else. that way it will limit the purging, get the skin used to it, then slowly introduce 1-2 times a week or for sensitive skin 2 times a month. its a long process, and as someone who hates waiting i get it, but i also dont want more acne which im sure no one wants. be patient!! :)

side note, for clearing skin, dont use niacinamide for getting rid of pimples, use a higher concentration of benzoyl peroxide (clears faster, NOT FOR DRY SKIN OR SENSITIVE SKIN!!) or salicylic acid (slower result, better for dryer skin or sensitive skin.)

Have you tried any other niacinamide serums? Otherwise I really wouldn’t write off niacinamide as a whole. Lots of people get a bad reaction to the TO one, there must just be something that’s off about that formula. I got allergic reactions every time I used it several days consecutively. I switched to the Inkey List one, I’ve used it for a few weeks now and I’m not having any issue with it. If anything it really does calm down my skin. It’s a bit more subtle in the way of reducing fine lines but then what’s the point of having less lines but angry rash all over

Other than that, please don’t touch it! Use the masks and apply a nice moisturizer. It also depends how do you introduce retinol to your routine. How concentrated it is, in what form, how often do you use it etc. You can find a lot of info that retinol can be great but it has to be used cautiously and introduced slowly and because it sort of reprograms your skin it can cause irritation at the beginning but it should recede in few weeks (I found most information saying about two weeks to a month).
@gustopotato
@gustopotato 3 жыл бұрын
it’s shouldve been best not to try retinol and niacinamide at the same time. your skin is definitely irritated and has become very sensitive. it’s best to use niacinamide at a lower concentration first, and as for retinol (exfoliant acids), it’s best to try using it alone with your trusty moisturizer and sunscreen until your skin has finished purging before trying new products. your skin is desperate for healing :(

I think u need to check % of retinol n niacinamide. For beginners, should starts with 0.2% retinol, 2-5% niacinamide. 10% niacinemide is too high. Can cause irritation. Also ,cannot use retinol with any exfoliator product. Because, retinol is a strong chemical, exfoliate before using it will cause damage. To minimize retinol,can use moisteriser before retinol. After it gets better, back to usual routine, retinol before moisteriser.

Thank you for this video! I have very sensitive skin, and this week I literally swapped my whole routine. I used the Cerave SA wash on monday and the TO lactic acid 10% serum, on tuesday I washed my face in the morning and night with the SA wash and used the Inkey list q10 serum and niacinamide at night, my skin began feeling quite irritated, that´s why today I only used my micellar water gel to wash my skin and applied a generous ammount of niacinamide. Literally 15 minutes afterwards I stardet feeling my skin kind of weird, so I washed everything off and only moisturized. My skin now feels and looks irritated, so I´ve decided to stop using every new product for a week and then reintroduce everything slowly, step by step. So kids, do your homework and study everything before puting on your skin, introduce products slowly so you don´t have to pass through something like this.

I’ve had purging happen but not as extreme. I’ve been very fortunate so far. I’ve just turned 55, and noticed that my SK-II routine seems to fall slightly short. Yep... got it on Friday and started using. Took pics of my face where I only had scars and a couple pimples that didn’t want to come out, about two of them one in each cheek. Saturday they came out huge, Sunday I had at least 6 pimples, yesterday my face was disgusting to look. Today it’s looking better, I am using it until Friday to see if it changed something. I Harare it accelerates the process and it makes all that junk under my face that I had to come out. First time I used was on Friday night, on Saturday I used morning/night and then Sunday I used it at night, and Monday when I saw my face so disgusting I did not use it at all. Today Tuesday I used it again at night and I will not use tomorrow, But the day after for sure. My advice is don’t do it like I did, I went too fast with it

@@Holadragons I mixed it with TO's Amino Acids + B5. When I first started, my skin also reacted negatively to the Niacinamide serum cos that's how most skin will react to a new product. It's important to ease this serum into our routine i.e. use it twice a week, once a day. Then progress to 4 times a week at night, before finally everyday at least once a day. But it's good to also give our skin a break from too much products and strip down to bare minimum once or twice a month. Often, I mix TO's Niacinamide with other products like my moisturiser to dilute it. P.S. TO's 0.2% retinol is a pretty affordable exfoliant that's gentle, if you want to try out a new product. Been using it once to twice per week.

I've been using this product for around 3 weeks and have already purchased 3 more bottles for myself, my sister, and my friend. This is by far my holy grail and my skin has NEVER looked better- I've used TO's Niacinamide every night since I started. I don't know if that's overkill but apparently, it's working pretty well. Granted, any skincare/makeup is completely dependent upon the individual's experience. 10/10 would recommend, but this is coming from a skincare newbie, this is the only product that I've found has helped my acne and dark spots- even above my prescription retinol!

Like she mentioned, either a BHA, AHA, retinol could cause your skin to purge and niacinamide doesn’t fall under any of those. So if you’re breaking out when using niacinamide the product is just not for you. I’ve tried the ordinary one and the good molecules one and both caused me to break out even more and even places where I never break out like my forehead.

Hi, I bought this product and I’ve really struggled with making it work for me. Unless using it 1/2 times a day works for you I would recommend starting off with using this product 1/2 times a week and building it up as your skin starts to tolerate the product more. Using it daily really irritated my skin, even after purging, and I found using it 3 times a week has been the most effective dosage for my skin.

It's funny how I went to several skincare doctors and none of them cured my acne problems. I now have so much scarring that it's just sad to think that the goal of somewhat good skin will never be a reality. I'm also 25 and my skin probably is done with this trial and error stuff. I decided to get a prescription for the pill, stopped wearing makeup and started using the ordinary and tea tree oil as major parts of my routine and I kinda got it under control. My skin is still bad but better. Every skincare professional failed me and I kinda lost trust. It's hard to build that trust again. I wish my doctors were as motivated as you.

Look at your diet, food effect hormones. Sugar, greasy foods, dairy, and processed foods in general really agrivate acne. Stress management, regular bowel movements. Acne is not just a surface issue. It's actually a warning light for other issues. Look at Dr drays channel on how to retinol properly, cause that is a great topical help. I say this as someone who sufferd from acne, and now get compliments on how great my skin is ... So it is possible, you just have to make changes

Did you check if this was because of your hormones? With your age, it's most likely for ir to be hormonal acne, and much more than skincare is needed to cure it, constant exercise and a healthy diet are necessary, and of course you will have to balance your hormones, but that's with your doctor

The pill you're saying is a contraceptive pill? They are a bomb. Look for an endocrinologist, they should prescribe you a much propper one, also, have you heard about primrose oil? It's good for hormonal control but it takes a little longer since it is natural.

Tea tree oil can be quite agressive on your skin, especially if not used in it's diluted form. You can also try sticking to serum based and water based moisturizers and emulsions that help restore the skin's natural barrier. Back that up with an occasional pea sized amount of tretinoin water based cream, once per week onto moisturized skin. This helped me a lot. I am also currently going through purging.

Love Niacinamide ❤ I didn't know skin purging could happen until someone told me about it who was helping me with hormonal acne (it was all on my jawline area). I'm in my 40s. I was putting so much crap on my face and it's like the breakouts were getting worse (wearing masks wasn't helping much either) and someone informed me about purging and how much I was stressing out my skin because I was putting so much shit on it. So I stuck with niacinamide along with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid and the purging took a while to clear up to be 100% honest with you but I had to be patient with what my skin was going through and be gentle with it and it has gotten so much better 🙏.. so I'm 1000% faithful to niacinamide. Also I use natural cucumber soap on my face to wash. Nothing else. No toner or lotions afterwards.. I go traight to the serums. Seems to be working on calming down all that anger that was happening.

Cathy!! First of all, can I just say thank you? I love how informative this video is. Usually, I can't watch "long" videos like these and I usually end up just skipping out on it, but the way you had everything formatted made it super easy to understand and keep up with. I also love how quick and straight to the point you were with information, and I looove love love your whole vibe :) I bought TO niacinamide/zinc formula about 2 weeks ago, as well as the Squalene cleanser, Moisturizer, and the Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%. I'm a dancer, so I have to be working out a lot, and because of that I have a lot of "fungal acne" and my skin is pretty oily. I've always had issues breaking out on my forehead (cystic and really bad hormonal acne :( it was a mess) and I recently started to break out super bad on the right side of my face for whatever reason. I've tried out so many different products, and I discovered that witch hazel seems to work pretty well for my skin - but I was still breaking out. I decided to try out TO, and after hearing so many good reviews I was really getting my hopes up. I didn't know if I was purging or having a bad reaction to the niacinamide/zinc serum, but after watching this I think it's purging. At least I hope so! I was only ever breaking out on my forehead and right cheek (so where I would usually break out), and I haven't broken out on my cheeks for a couple of days. I'm really glad I decided to not give up on the product, and after watching this I'm pretty sure that the products will work out for me! I have a question though - is it a good idea to use the niacinamide/zinc and azelaic acid suspension 10% with witch hazel? What I've been doing as I've slowly incorporated the new products into my routine is to use my cleanser (which is Paula's Choice Oily Combo) , witch hazel, and the azelaic acid at night, and then the niacinamide/zinc and squalene cleanser in the morning. I use the TO moisturizer morning and night. I hope you're able to read all of this, I know it's a lot ^^'' sorry!! But thank you so much... you earned a new sub from me! Hyram better watch out ;)

Hannah Grace oh wow! I’m in awe of dancers!!! Okay, so since you mentioned forehead, I have to ask - do you use a lot of hair products? I know a lot of dancers have a pretty intense makeup / hair routine during performances. Hair products can sometimes travel onto your face, especially if you’re also sweating and wearing makeup so if that’s an issue, try and dial it back if you don’t need to be on stage. Alsoooo re: niacinamide + azelaic acid + witch hazel, yup! You should be good there but just be careful that you’re not actually overdrying your skin out (because it will overcompensate with more oil production basically). Toner first, niacinamide, then the azelaic acid in that order. And be sure to have a sunscreen thrown in because the azelaic acid makes your skin sensitive to the sun!

@@CathyonSkincare ahhh thank you so much for replying!!! you're right, when i have to perform or be onstage i have to use a ton of makeup and hair product - but usually in my every-day routine i barely use any hair product (just shampoo/conditioner and sometimes dry shampoo lol) and then some lighter makeup. I'll keep at it with the niacinamide + azlelaic acid + witch hazel to see if that helps!! thank you sooo so much!

@@mattc236 Yes it is, it's actually not even necessary. 2-5% gives you all the benefits while being more gentle on your skin when you first introduce it to your face. I hate how modern day skincare products overuse key ingredients and give you big percentages, to make it appear like they are somehow more effective, when in reality they just irritate your skin more. For example, citric acid can be helpful to some skin conditions, but if you put pure concentrated citric acid on your face, you'll experience chemical burns and nothing else. That's true to most other ingredients too. 10% niacinamide is way more than you would ever need, and even though not all people react to it, a whole lot of us will and there's no point to expose us to such a risk for no reason.

@@luskaneseprince It has never burned my skin. But other moisturizers with 2% niacinamide do burn a bit sometimes. 10% Niacinamide can burn my skin if I have a cut tho. I have pretty tough skin.

guys!! if you do find you’re breaking out and can’t tell if it’s purging or a reaction then try and do a patch test on your arm and see if you still get the reaction. obviously your skin will not be the same as on your face but i find it did actually help! just a tip :)

Every skin is different I suppose. I've been using it for a few months and I found it just helped control my oil and now I have fewer pimples and bumps. Didn't cause any new breakouts or a purge. It didn't cause 'flawless' skin though haha so I'm adding in some other products one at a time.
