Thank you for the discussion on Lupus. So many people, including doctors, without Lupus are dismissive of our experiences. P.S. I’d love to hear a skin care regimen for autoimmune disease skin care. (Along with the science, which you two make easier to understand.)

I totally agree. I have hypothyroidism and my weight fluctuates whenever my meds need to be re-evaluated. And when I was younger it was totally hurtful when someone made comments. Now I honestly could care less and it’s because I’m older and I feel good in my skin these days no matter where I am. My advice to most is to keep comments about people’s bodies to themselves unless asked.

Glycerin was always good in moisturizer but due to the tackiness at higher concentration and the hype of HA it got pushed away even though it has been in cosmetics for decades. On molecular level it actually can penetrate skin A LOT easier while most forms of HA is just too big to go much deeper. I personally have a skin that needs to be hydrated often and just few months ago I found the perfect solution that even eases my sensitive/dry skin. All I do is wash my face with distilled water (we have hard water and it's one of the bigger reason why my face felt dry), then I mix small amount of glycerin with distilled water in those small "portable humidifiers", spray the mist on my face for a good minute, doo the serums, do the humidifier mist again and finally I "seal" it with HA based moisturizer. I feel like HA creates a "barrier" that doesn't let any moisture escape but this combo makes my face feel like a baby skin each time I wash it down...oh and drinking of plenty of water helps too. :)

A good reminder for us all to practice empathy for others or at the very least don't just jump to conclusions. +1 to a video on skin care routines or skin care recommendations for those w/ autoimmune diseases. I'm 68 yrs old and as always agree with everything you 2 say. You can get amazing moisturizers for very reasonable costs. A recent example for me was buying the Skinceuticals moisturizer ($140) and then buying the Aveeno for eczema ($18). The Aveeno was 10 times better for my skin. The results after 2 weeks was remarkable. I too splurge on facial tinted spf 50+. I wear it instead of foundation (and elegantly formulated foundation can get $$$!) I like Avene Retinol the best and I've tried many. It's fairly pricey but honestly it lasts a very long time. The rest is just for fun really - essences, serums, antioxidants. My skin has always been good so I'm pretty low maintenance. I think it's helpful to know where you should splurge and not. Thank you for another great video!

Thank you for discussing H.S, I had my first boil at 16, after that I didn't suffer often...until my mid 20's, it got bad fast and I felt disgusting and carried a lot of shame thinking I was doing something wrong and not cleaning properly etc. I was finally diagnosed when I was around 27 years old because it was so painful, covered all those embarrassing areas and I needed help. Anyone I did open up to back then, didn't react in a nice/kind way. I also got a lot of "advice" on cleanliness. I'm in the U.K and I don't think there is much awareness even now. I'm now 45 😮 I am on long term antibiotics that I didn't think helped much until I came off them. I soon started taking them again. I guess I'm mostly used to it now and luckily have a fabulous relationship with love and understanding from my husband. It's so hard to talk about, especially when you are younger. It's sadly a very embarrassing disease which is why so many people suffer in silence. So once again thank you for opening up that discussion. I think you are both awesome and you give such great advice. Many thanks.

Like you My daughter has suffered since she was in her teens. I’m not sure which was worse for her , the pain or the shame. No one understood what it was.sometimes her “cysts” were as big as a fist. As she got older, she would go to the ER and have them cut open allowing them to drain which would relieve the pain. It was very hard for her to hold down a job due to the odor of the draining fluid and pain. She took jobs that isolated her from others. Then there was the depression…. We went to so many doctors, wound specialists , dermatologist, surgeon. My daughter has somehow battled thru all of this for 30 years with support from her family. She has found others like her on TikTok so knows she is not alone. Her present dermatologist told her he has never seen a case as severe as hers. My heart goes out to you and everyone one else with HS.❤

Totally disagree about sunscreens. I prefer tinted sunscreen. Given that, I tried expensive brands EltaMD, DRMTLGY or Paula’s Choice and hated them all. They slide right off my face very quickly and ELtaMD flakes off. However $15 Australian Gold tinted mineral sunscreen is amazing. It goes on greasy, which feels weird, but dries down to a beautiful matte finish that lasts all day. It replaced my foundation completely because it is even blurring. No need for powder and keeps my very oily skin from shining all day.

It would be really cool if you could do a video on K-Beauty! I feel like there are *so many* claims about different ingredients that aren’t typically in western skincare so it’s hard to know what is effective or just hype. Also: ferments! Anecdotal, but my skin gets SO glowy with ferment products and it’d be cool to see a video on that too. Like SK-II and the more affordable dupes like Missha.

I found a great cheap sunscreen for me. The Nivea Sun Protect Super Water Gel, it's a chemical sunscreen totally invisible so no cast, but it also doesn't burn my eyes which is my problem with 99% of chemical sunscreens. It also has a really feel to it. My absolute favorite is the Dr Murad Invisiblur sunscreen. It's like a matte gel primer. It makes your skin look so good, but it's $70 for 1oz 😑

Autoimmune diseases are appearing more & more often. They are serious conditions and can be life threatening without proper daily medications to manage them. A great way to get cost effective sunscreen is to focus on buying larger volumes. For instance my favorite sunscreen is the Omi Verdio UV Moisture Gel Spf 50++++. It comes in a larger pump bottle of 220g (about 7.5 oz) and so is much, much cheaper per oz. than almost anything else, so I don't feel the need to be precious with it when it comes to applications. Highly recommend!

Interesting conversation. Thank you for discussing issues with oral steroids. Disagree on the "splurge" on sunscreen. I did that once with a mineral sunscreen that "everyone" loved, but now I spend so much less using Korean sunscreens (most are less than 20, many less than 15, and a few are less than 10). Glad you mentioned Stylevana, I think this is a great resource to try other sunscreens for a reasonable price.

I couldn't disagree more about the splurge on sunscreen! I've not found an expensive sunscreen at any price that beats a lot of the Korean sunscreens that are under $15.00. I used Elta MD for years and it's terrible when compared to huge numbers of Korean sunscreens. I used to think it was the gold standard. I've used multiple high-end sunscreens over the past 30 years on my fair skin and feel I 'm now an expert on the high-end spectrum. The first time I tried Korean sunscreen I couldn't believe how much money I'd been wasting.

I'm actually really surprised that Dermatologists prefer HMW Hyaluronic Acid; I thought it was generally supported by studies that the most benefit with the least irritation potential was 80,000-1,000,000 daltons, which is usually labeled as LMW (Low Molecular Weight) Hyaluronic Acid. While HMW HA is more active *within* the body, it's not small enough to penetrate skin & get there. Higher molecular weights swell into a gel that just sits on the skin & block TEWL, more like an occlusive rather than a humectant I don't think Vichy is a HMW formula, at least I don't see any claims on their website about their HA's molecular weight, though it is a very elegant gel. The wonderful experience of this gel has more to do with the gums (Carbomer, Biosaccharide Gum-1) & anti-tack agents (Methyl Gluceth-20) than it does with the Hyaluronic Acid

La roche-posay products left my skin red and after a dew days it started burning to even wash it. After that I tried the b5 tube and same thing. They just don't work for me. Just like Niacinamide my skin hates it.

I'm not sure if you two have made a video or spoken about this already, but I'm interested in knowing how steroid creams such as hydrocortisone affect the skin. Years back, I used to get cystic acne really bad. If I caught one before it grew and became noticeable, I would use the hydrocortisone cream and it worked! I know it's an anti-itch cream, but somehow it helps keep the swelling down and prevents cysts from growing bigger- at least in my experience.

When you spoke about hyaluronic acid - you stated to look for a high level. Do you mean a high molecular level or a high formula percentage? From my formulation research, a low molecular weight is better for skin absorption (such as 800K-1M daltons). And a max of 1% HA in products overall is best for efficiency and value. Can you clarify?

Do you recommend to use chemical exfoliants on parts where you have facial hair? beard?

Absolutely! Prevents/treats ingrown hair. I don't have facial hair but down below needs exfoliating whether hair or bare so face would be same.

I use Teoxane RHA serum fundamental revitalizing concentrate. It has hyaluronic acid, vitamin b6, zinc, copper and amino acids. It says it has the highest amount of hyaluronic acid. I have 77 year old dry skin and have used it for a few years. It’s pricy and what are your thoughts on how much hyaluronic acid should I be using?😊

unrelated question, I have been prescribed Efudex by my Dermatologist in the past. Tried several times to use it, each time within a few hours my skin erupts in a painful rash. Is there another way to treat pre cancerous lesions ? thank you

I checked through your videos and didn’t see one on this issue but maybe I missed it. I have bumps on my face from blocked sebaceous glands. They are deeper under the skin and if not excised continue to enlarge. When excised a thick pale yellow wax like substance comes out. Is there a product to treat this condition? Thanks!
