My 2nd labrador, Layla she's gone now, chewed everything our carpet, baseboards, dry wall, deck, furniture, etc. I screamed ALOT in my head lol but just cleaned it up and hubby is a carpenter thankfully so he replaced. I literally replace my carpet shampooer probably every 4-5 yrs because with pets comes stains and they can be shampooed up. I also learned a valuable lesson with Layla that labs CHEW , knew it b4 hand but not to her extent. I just hold on till puppyhood is mostly over then replace until next puppy comes. I have my husband to thank 4 getting me to understand it can be cleaned, replaced, or just dealt with. I chose to get a puppy so therefore chose what comes with. I've had many pups throughout my 22 yr marriage and every 1 from 6-8 weeks to passing, except 1 GS and we figured out pretty quick we didn't have time 2 devote 2 him he deserved. We gave him 2 a family with 4 kids, big back yard and lots of love tg o give him. 1 and only 1 we gave up, was about 15 yrs ago, and learned valuable lesson thankfully not at expense of puppy.

Amazing how the look in Charlie's eyes has completely changed (he stares so incredulously in the beginning). Always touching to see an abandoned animal becoming part of a caring family and finding joy in life.

I'd glad you wrote that. I've been "turned off" for months against rescue stories and "This is my house / not my cat", as these animals have all been abandoned by people they loved and trusted. Monsters. Made me so angry I could not watch. But yes, they can find joy again.

@@veramae4098 Those are the only dogs we ever get are rescues. We have been so richly rewarded with love, joy, and loyalty for many years. We have nursed sick dogs, starving dogs, dogs with terrible mange, allergies, and even one mentally ill dog. My husband still cries when he talks about her. She was his dog. We have our last 3 now: 2 from the pound and a little min pin who went from puppy mill to the pound and 6 homes in her first 13 months. She is my husband's little Princess, and has had 9 years of love and care in one house. I don't think I can stand to watch my husband when she passes over the rainbow bridge. He will be devastated.

I don't think anyone can understand how it feels to be starving and skinny like that and how long it takes to get back to normal.... It's amazing how trusting he was towards people so I'm hoping he had human friends that helped him out from time to time, the best part about this is that he'll never have to worry about where his next meal is coming from or if he's going to eat. His humans have his back now and I'm glad to see he's got a friend now too.... I was almost upset that his little brother wouldn't be able to see him but I guess they live lose enough that he can visit. ❤️

My pup when he was about a year old he was used for dog fights and that was one of the worst animal abuse cases I saw first hand there was another dog with him that was worse off and sadly the other dog we weren't able to save we tried everything and we stayed by the other dog I named Shadow and gave him love and some treats before his last breaths we were able to save Chance though and we had been rescuing and rehabilitating animals my whole life and we had times we didn't have money to feed ourselves because we wanted to make sure the animals were able to eat before us. Chance is our silly boy he still has scars and bad dreams from what happened but it's been worth the heart ache and we promised he would never have to worry about anyone ever hurting him ever again we also made that promise to shadow before he slipped away and I blame myself I know it wasn't me who did that to them but I wished we would've somehow found them before they found us if that makes sense. Chance is about 4 years old at least that's how old we think he is now and we are still rescuing animals he recently found a feral kitten who was also starving like he was and they've become so close the feral whom I named Buffy imprinted on me and now she's my baby but Chance thinks he's her father so he helps groom her when she's sleeping and he's trying to teach her how to play tug of war so that's been amazingly adorable and funny

We adopted a dog from the shelter who looked just like that. He was on his last day before euthanasia. It was his second stay at the pound. He was a terrible puppy! Very destructive. I took him home to NC because being in school in FL I couldn't manage him alone. He immediately fit in with our other 2 dogs. He loved my husband, and put on 40 pounds. His name was Charley too! My grandson named him. When we lost him, we kept his dog, of course. Charley lived to be 12, which the vet said for his breed was amazing He had a healthy, happy life until just before he got terminally ill. We had his vet put him down while we were there, just before he was in pain; the vet said we timed it just right, so he didn't suffer. I still look at his place, 6 months later, and miss him. His ashes are right next to my dog's, who was his friend. I just feel sad that he wasn't able to grow up with the little boy who chose him and loved him. 😭
