Great Video! I love seeing 844 out and about! Shame about it hitting a Pedestrian. Let that be a reminder to all to always Stop, Look and Listen.

For those watching that have never been trackside when this goes by you doing about 60............It moves you. Not only physically but emotionally. The ground shakes well before it arrives. You receive massive pulses throughout your body from each cylinder cycle. truly something to see before you die

Awesome video. Your channel is the best when it comes to UP steam. Hopefully, the next UP steam video we see is 4014.

Dear Sir, I think your video is art. The art of the great Edward Hopper came to my mind when watching this video. There is something about the colors too, did you shoot with 6500K? Please do be careful when shooting your great train movies, you are in the traffic and just about anything could happen. I think I need to go to the United States and watch these big steam locomotives for myself. No New York for me, but rather Cheyenne I think.

I feel like I’m the only person who doesn’t like “The Spirit.” I know what UP was going for, I understand what they were going for, but the generic camouflage on the end of the long hood makes her look like the painters totally lost the thread. She would have looked better if she was just an air force unit and the grey was extended all the way back or transitioned back into silver. Then UP could have painted another handful of locomotives to give us army, marine, navy, and coast guard schemes.

How fast can 844 go?
@minecraftertracey016 жыл бұрын
Some books have record her going at 130mph but we can't test her anymore unless up gets a test track and trys but that may never happen

Nice trip. Too bad Big Boy had to give his bits to keep 844 running!

Tim England What do you mean? UP has a parts FEF in the shop that they scavenge to keep 844 going.
@Amrepdude4995 жыл бұрын
@Buddy R. Sometimes 844's parts come from the 838. Unless they got rid of it

IS that a UP Diesel? I see some old Burlington-style green toward the back.

Can't fault your video but why does 844 on stop on a road junction again, could he not reverse for a few feet? Barry.Devon.UK.
@daninthedome6 жыл бұрын
do that for reason, slow city with many crossings, good footing for service, and the community to check it out. between the old depot and a model train faciltiy
@jcalpha27175 жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone in crowd minded the close up view.

good morning everyone, is 844 back in service after the accident??
@deadfreightwest59566 жыл бұрын
Peter Ramsey - I doubt it suffered that much damage.

The real question is how is the crew doing,are they getting proper grief counseling?
@daninthedome6 жыл бұрын
seem to be holding up, the engine crew took a day off the planned schedule..

It's there to provide HEP (head end power) to the cars.
@Amrepdude4995 жыл бұрын
@Buddy R. You know that was a relatively stupid comment on my part. To top onto what you said it's a freight Diesel so no HEP generator is even on board the loco. I think it might be there for traction to. If the steamer has trouble starting they could throttle up the diesel. 844 & 3985 have controls inside the cab where they can control the deisel. I've been looking into the steam program a lot recently. Can't wait to see 4014 on the rails.

Blake Edwards - Being a freight diesel, it provides no head-end (hotel) power to the train. There's a specific car in the train to do this. As for air brakes, its compressor augments those on the steamer.
@deadfreightwest59566 жыл бұрын
Tyler Fisher - The 844 is equipped with MU controls to operate the diesel. At the start of the trip, with the 844 slipping on wet rail, the diesel was throttled up to provide traction for acceleration. Once up to speed, the 844 can handle the train with ease.
