I had to pour a concrete base to keep animals and critters out from getting under a mobile home, double wide, I poured a concrete footer/base and put the skirting on top. All my videos are my ways and ideas, I always suggest that anyone doing anytype of work to consult professional help.

you made mention of pea gravel underneath of the footer... "think like a railroad" could you elaborate on that I live where our frostline is 36" and I have been thinking about pouring a small slap say 3'x5' for an fuel oil barrel to go on... not sure the the steps to preven frost heave and what you mentioned here got me to thinking... Thanks for sharing your knowledge through these videos they have been very helpful to me!

Hi chave, it sometimes called a floating slab, lay the gravel down like a patio or a shed, then whatever goes on top, the railroad lays gravel down and purlt the tracks on top, it avoids water problems and frost heaving, same idea, of course every situation is different, thanks Mike

Hi Juli, I always make sure the land is pitched away from the house and the rain gutters are piped away, and unless I am doing something like skirting I don't use gravel as it works like a drain also, so you got to be carefully watch what you are trying to achieve, water can be a big problem, thanks Mike

@@MikeHaduck You are so right. My house was in a swamp near the terminal moraine of the Lake Michigan Glacier. It's almost all built on clay and used to flood regularly before the city put in new storm drains. My house is old, built in the 20's, gosh that's a hundred years ago. There is a shallow ditch on the South side of my property, about 3 feet from the house. I've seen water up to my house in the past. The city has not maintained the storm drains around here. The slope away from the house is minimal. The city built up the road about 3 feet above flood plain on my house. I've seen the only storm drain for a hundred yards up and down the street, located in my front yard, be flooded a couple of feet above the drain. It's a real disaster waiting to happen. I bought flood insurance. Mu furnace was build inside my garage on top of a 3 foot above garage floor concrete pillar to avoid flooding of the furnace. There is also a 1 foot pillar on which my clothes dryer sits. I've survived here for 35 years now but each spring the water table comes right to the sloshy surface of the ground around here. It's subsided now. I'm able to cut grass now but it sure was high water for months from first melt. I live 40 miles from downtown Chicago in the Indiana area directly south of Lake Michigan. I probably should tear this place down and move to higher ground but... There is really no options for slope other than building a drain system all around the property to the city storm sewers, Verboten. I had hoped that large sized gravel might speed up the draining from around the house itself. My property is 412 feet in depth. I've thought about digging a 20 foot retention pond in the back but I get no cooperation from the city engineer. Thanks for your suggestions and thoughts. It's not the best of properties. Let me know if there are any good properties where you are in Florida where I can bring my gold and silver bars. Just joking. Love your music. Julie

hey, can't stop working even retired in Florida hey mike LOL. I would hate having a house like that on ground crawling under it to get to pipes and air ducts. always had basements. they make that plastic door edge protector for cars that would look nice around the air duct opening instead of the duct tape. or have a section of metal duct to prevent it from being chewed by critters with some nice rubber insulation glued onto it. how is that dirt mixed with Portland will weeds grow in that? i want a little strip next to foundation to divert water away and keep weeds and grass from growing along house. I was considering a small cement strip sloped away from house. would that hold up in Pennsylvania or would it break with freeze thaw cycles?

One of the things about Florida I am not crazy about is the critters and roaches and alligators, big turtles and snakes. And the humidity. I guess it’s not for me, but I get it. This looks like a good solution and it makes sense. It’s good to keep active and always moving. A slow moving river clogs up, but a fast moving river has clear water. Think of your blood vessels as rivers and a slow moving river is an inactive person, but an active person is like a fast moving river.
