Another great video thanks. If you undo that large nut with the battery connected make sure your spanner doesn't touch any other metal parts of the car or you may get a brown trouser moment!

The alternator of my car is draining the battery (when the car is off) by a current of 1.33A. The alternator is charging the battery with the correct voltage. Do you think I have an issue with the rectifier? I haven't done those tests on the video yet. Thank you

Hey mate. thank you for informative videos that have helped me not to burn my Fabia with gasoline and matchsticks.... I was wondering for what might be my next location of possible issue, or do I have one: I have had problem with the AC not blowing cold and the reason was the main fans. I now have replaced the fuses on top of the battery, Hi/lo relay under the battery and both fans. Shouldn't the low speed kick in when the AC is on. Now the fan goes on for brief moment and stops. IS this the way it is meant to be or should the slow speed stay on all the time ? (MK1 diesel 1.9 RS) You have gone trough many other issues on these lovely little rust buckets, but I did not find any info on this matter. I maybe should run the damn thin hot to see if there is two speeds to be observe, but for now I'm in belief that despite my effort, the Low speed is still not working.

Fans, fans, fans, Yes the fans should work on the condenser when the AC comes on, the interior heater fan one should be on to work the AC anyway, but the main two fans are on the rad/condenser, but there maybe a delay and it is also dependent upon ambient temperature. The fans resisters can go which are inside the fan motors and the easiest way to solve this is buy new fans, but there are cheap ways of fixing the resisters. I haven't had this issue myself, but here is a link that may help: www.uk-mkivs.net/threads/mk-4-golf-bora-radiator-fan-fix.224371/. I would do a video on this, but not at the moment. Hope this helps :-)

Thank you for the video. But has i said I prefer my 14,1 volts to yours almost 14,7 volts. But I went checking in other cars and found a Chevrolet spark that puts 14,6 volts in the battery also and a seat Ibiza with 13,9 volts. I have a suggestion to make. Can you do a video testing the EVAP system? My Fabia has a petrol engine and had a problem of high gasoline consumption that was caused by a fail in the EVAP system (not know how the EVAP system works on a diesel engine). Keep the good work and thank you again. Your videos are very useful.

My car doesn't have EVAP as it is a Diesel engine. Basically they are a charcoal filter system that absorbs fuel vapor to stop it being released into the atmosphere adding to ozone. Another modern system to go wrong on cars! They can clog up and effect the intake fuel vapor mixture, the purge valve can fail or clog up. locate the valve and replace. You know my 14.6v maybe an issue after all , even though it is within spec. I will investigate further as I do further tests on my electrical system. Thanks for keeping me on my toes :-)

@@HatBoyHarvey good morning. Then I went look for more information and found out that diesel not has evaporation problems at usual temperatures. But diesel cars have a valve that allow the fuel tank breath. If that valve is not functioning properly it can add extra effort to the pump when sucking or cause excessive pressure when filling the tank. My brain says to me that in the VW group the regulators are defined for very near 14 Volts. But I do not remember where I get that info. ☺️

What is the reason for the hardening of the steering wheel.. Partially and not completely.. Can you help me.. Thank you
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
The most common reason for the wheel hardening is low fluid, have a look at my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z326hWCPps6HsKc Flush the system and refill first to see if that works, then if not check the electrical connections to both pump and steering rack and if any leakage is there. The pump may need renewing, which will be harder job.

Hey friend. Nice information. I have 2006 Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi alh, getting warm starting problem. New battery, starter motor service done, No fuel related problem. Finally found P1503. Two out of three coils got shorted mechanic said. Got it repaired. Now warm starting is OK but I am not confident. What you think? Thanks

@HatBoyHarvey 2 жыл бұрын
Did you get a new alternator, regulator, rectifier or what? checked the belt and tensioner? I would check all the related cables, connection, continuity, overheating, corroding, damage and fuses. Also check the connections to the injectors when hot and cold to see if they are loose or fouled up etc. maybe check all the vacuum lines, MAF, MAP etc. When all said and done the P1503 is the alternator right, so that is now done and it seems to be working so all you can do check more stuff or just wait and see. Sorry I can't be more helpful as I think if the fault is still there it will given time maybe show itself again or not :-)

@@HatBoyHarvey Thanks friend for insight. I guess, rectifier, regulator is OK. Belt is new, tensioner is also OK. They said, internal coils got shorted so what they did is before putting new alternator, they repaired it. It's working now. Let's see. Which is the correct alternator for 1.9tdi alh?

Hi Harvey got a problem I just noticed on my skoda that the drivers side tyre is 185/60 R15 but rest 3 tyres are 195/50 R15 how will this affect my car Thanks
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
Best to change your tyres so both front tyres on the same axle are the same and the same for the rear. Saying that, when you have a puncture the spare space saver (if you have one) is very often vastly different to you normal road wheels and they advise a reduced max speed, so don't worry too much as your difference isn't that much, but does need changing. Aspect ratio is related to the width of the tyre. The lower the tyre to wheel height, the stiffer the side wall which gives greater stability, but a harsher ride. It is all relative; a larger rim height gives rigidity with low profile tyres for a more sporting ride, but if the suspension isn't up to it your extra stiffness will be lost (or could even in certain circumstances be dangerous) higher aspect gives a better ride, but will become unwieldy if you push it harder :-)

@@HatBoyHarvey sorry got one more question my car drives fine when no one is in the back but soon as on person sits in the back my exhaust keeps rattling I have checked underneath it looks ok what can it be?
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
@@RandomClips27. I've found that there are heat shields around the exhaust tunnel that fix to the body which corrode and can come loose, maybe this is it, if not the shocks have covers that also come loose and may rattle when load :-)

@@HatBoyHarvey thanks I have checked the heat shield that looks fine and no rust. I will check the shocks but it does sound like the exhaust hitting on something when someone sitting in the back. I did change the exhaust as it was rusty and thought that was the problem but its still the same with a new exhaust
