Hi there! Comparison between Mackie CR4 and Edifier R1700BT (with the guest appearance of JBL LSR305) was one of the first videos I did for this channel and now, two years later, we are coming back to check how they compare again. This time the setup is different as is the music so I hope this will bring new perspective. Starting with the build quality, Edifier is MUCH better build, more solid and more premium feeling. Cabinet of Mackie CR4 is light and feel hollow while Edifier is heavy and feel dense. Front panel of Mackie is very resonant and colours the sound significantly when the volume goes above low levels. Edifier finishes off Mackie with Bluetooth connectivity and remote control, total KO. Soundwise Edifier has much better bass response, more solid, tighter and less boosted in the upper ranges. Mackie's bass is boomy and has way too much boost in the upper ranges that also colours lower midrange. Except for bass, the differences between the are rather minor, but I have to give a slight edge to Mackie for its midrange, it is a bit clearer and more natural. Edifier also has more power on tap and can play louder without distorting. Overall, as a packadge, Edifier wins this comparison and it is the speaker I recommend for anyone looking for good desktop speakers that do not cost an arm and a leg. What do You think? Which one would You choose? Let me know! Cheers!
Nice. That brown color looks old-fashioned and ugly.

Digital Stereophony, could you recomend some soundcard for Edifier R1700BT? Something like "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX" goo.gl/KgE68x will be OK? Thank you.

Your comparisons are a great way to choose between speakers, really well done and helpful, keep it up, I'm subscribing 🙌

The Mackie speakers have an annoying boomy mid. I think it's the plastic cabinet resonating? The Edifier speakers are a surprise for the price... Could you compare the M-Audio BX5 D3" with the Edifier? Thanks again for the vid.
@reflexionesdecrecimiento6 жыл бұрын
I finally ordered both and tested them. after that i can say mackie has better sound than edifier (especially in metal). If you use a good EQ settings to fix his boomy bass response mackie is absolutely better. I have sound blaster z card installed in my computer and with his software i did the perfection balanced sound. And as i said, after that is the best option. Completely in love with my CR4 mackies! :D

What metal songs you've been trying them Mackie with? I compose metal songs, so it's quite important for me.
@circusreturn23975 жыл бұрын
SHIZUMARU OFFICIAL i think the mackie works better for composers as it is more natural sounding than the edifier as it is made for listeners. while the mackie, given its product range (mixers, live-sound, etc.) they are targeted for the people who works in music! :)
@AmbientWanderer4 жыл бұрын
this is why it's important to try and listen to speakers within your own environment and with your own music collection. People should not buy speakers based on one recording on KZbin. This channel is very useful, bu it should only be used to shortlist a few different speakers.

I had the mackies for about a year and they just stopped working. Might go with edifer this time around. I'm using Ath m-50x headphones to listen to this and I'm hearing absolutely minimal difference. I think mackies have a tiny bit clearer vocal response but that's about it. Don't think I'd chance the cr4's again even though I loved those speakers :)
@neuronzplusplus6 жыл бұрын
Nice.. there are lots of Edifiers which offer some decent quality for lower prices. I found a pair of Edifier R1850DB which cost about 135 dollars in a store here, even though they are listed at 199 on the producer's site. Seems a bit too good to be true, the people from the store say it's new. Maybe if they are imported in the USA they cost more. Too bad there aren't enough sound demos for the R1850DB. Are you planning on doing a review for the R1850DB too? They seem to be a serious step-up from the R1800BT you reviewed already. Their woofer is like 1 inch bigger, I think, which allows them to emphasise the bass more than the R1800s, even though their listed frequency response is about the same. Keep up the good work.
@DSAUDIOreview6 жыл бұрын
Tests of R1850DB should start to roll out next month, I have already ordered a pair for test. Unfortunately I can not confirm that R1850DB has bigger woofer than R1800BT and I expect them to sound similar as well...

I'm having the same exact dilemma, I think I'll have to go with the Mackie's since the majority of music I listen to is Metal and Rock.
@ferniwong50913 жыл бұрын
Mackie is better!!!!
@circusreturn23975 жыл бұрын
to me, the mackie is more open, natural, and detailed than the edifier. the edifier is a more mid-heavy piece. you can also hear the bass more in the edifier which introduces sub-harmonics when given a sine wave below 90hz, while the mackie is more loose sounding at the bottom end. regardless of what the edifier offers their features with, i still prefer the mackie even though it’s built like it’s a cheapo. the cost goes to better quality drivers and components rather than the exterior. if you are looking for ease of use and does not seek for critical hearing, go for the edifier. but the mackie is more suitable for a home studio setup (i think there are several home producers who uses this mackie). cheers!

Sound quality is almost the same so the only question is if You need those addtional features of R1850DB. If You do, than get them, if not than save the money and go with R1700BT

Edifier's are multimedia speakers, they are not studio monitors, not active, you don't plug audio interface play guitar , you can only damage speakers without amplifier in passive speakers
@DSAUDIOreview6 жыл бұрын
Actually Edifier IS active speaker system with and active crossover and separate amplifiers for tweeter and woofer, while Mackie is passive design with built in stereo amp and passive crossover ;)
@Livewild785 жыл бұрын
cant decide. Mackie seems more bass and emphasis sound, edifier more soft/neutral.

У Edifier R1700BT || бас "вкуснее", глубже. точнее и по высоким частотам у этой акустики лучше. К тому же я не люблю акустику с задним расположением фазоинвертора - очень требовательна к расположению относительно стены.

Well this is the worst for me. The CR4 sounds better for Rock. The Edifier sounds better for Retro Wave (EDM music). I listen to Rock/Metal and EDM. I'm so split it sucks. The Edifier definitely has more bass and crisp highs. I think you may have sold me on the Edifier's.

Agree - I was listening to this test with standard Apple wired in ears, and Mackie boomy bass muddied Toreadors. However I preferred Mackie mid range on the rock tracks - I thought more projection of the sound & more clarity. At least I didn’t listen to this test through the CR4’s on my desk ;-)
