The Leaf Shield is actually very useful. It defends against grabs, stops Luma from hurting you when you grab Rosalina, and it is useful against characters that use brute strength like Captain Falcon and Ganon. Just don't use it as a projectile, except MAYBE sending it after someone trying to recover. Lol people talk so much nonsense about the leaf shield. However, used right, it's very useful.

If you're using the Leaf Shield for protection, you're doing it wrong. As for "useless move," I'm just going to give you an example. Mew2king was the leader in Peach tech in Melee for years, and he called her up air near useless and a waste of a move. However, Armada came on the scene as the best Peach in the world. He showed that up air had plenty of uses. Since he came on the scene, the Peach meta has changed completely to include up air as a great move. So, if your complaint is "I have to 'go out of my way' to make a move useful," then that means you have the entirely wrong attitude about smash. Winning at high level isn't easy. So you will have to do some very advanced things to get an edge. Just because you're too lazy or not good enough to make the move useful doesn't mean it's useless. It just means you're full of Johns. :)

The leaf shield can be used in many ways. One easy way to use it, that you don't have to be pro to do, is to activate leaf shield and then grab your opponent. That way you do some damage before you throw your opponent

You're wrong when you say "everyone thinks it sucks." You're in the minority. The majority of Mega Man Mains and otherwise believe it has it's uses. It's just very situational. It'd be like saying Marth/Lucina's shield breaker is useless because you can't just spam it, or Mario's FLUUD is useless because it is also very situational. If you can't use it, that's just you. Plus, "I shouldn't be able to do half the shit I do," is the biggest sign of someone who's full of themselves without ever getting a result. Watch Zucco, Styles, or any other Mega Man main. They put Leaf Shield to great use. I think this argument is less about how good Leaf Shield is, and more about how hilarious it is you think you're the end all, be all of the Mega Man meta. Lmao.

The Leaf Shield may seem like a useless move, mainly because of its unorthodox nature (HA, puns), but in actuality, this is where experimentation *REALLY* rewards the player, much like any Classic Mega Man game. Not only can the Leaf Shield stop people from grabbing Mega Man, but it can also aid Mega Man's grabs by doing more damage to the opponent. It's most difficult and arguably best benefit is that it can cause a mini spike, gimping the opponent's recovery. Granted, it does take a lot of time and patience to get it to work, but that's how some weapons are in the Classic Mega Man series (Gyro Attack from 5 for example). The Leaf Shield is the prime example of a move capable of being amazing despite its very complicated and seemingly useless style. That's why, other than being a massive fan of the franchise in general, I main Mega Man. While he's incredibly difficult to learn, and his pure projectile-based style may turn some players off, once you know his mechanics, he's really fun to use, and with his incredible spacing ability, edge-guarding ability, and multiple set ups for messing with the opponent, Mega Man can be deceptively tricky to fight, and is evil with some of his moves. Air Shooter, anyone? ;)

Mega Man is my main. One technique I use when I play as him is fire a Crash Bomb, and while the opponent is panicking trying to get rid of it, use the Charged Mega Buster to catch them off guard.

I've got a tip. I've been practicing with the hard knuckle, and one thing I've found is that if you want to do a meteor kill, on light characters like Sheik the hard knuckle kills at 40%+. This is obviously for a meteor spike, which is very hard to land with Mega Man. The best way is to either throw them off the edge and keep them there with your jabs or to use your running smash to knock them off. Then, once they're off the stage, use only one jump to get above them and then use the hard knuckle, and they'll immediately be spiked to their deaths. The only downside is the extremely slow recovery time from the hard knuckle, which not only leaves you vulnerable, but might also have you falling to your death. But hey, if you're going for this kill, you're most likely doing it to end a match in style, so it shouldn't be that big a deal.

other combos good with him -- dash attack, down tilt, up tilt dash attack then jump for air pelts, 2 pelts running (to throw them off, because most will expect 3) then down tilt when you get close up tilt uair (everyone knows the recommended "leaf shield grab," but it isn't worth the effort) down throw up smash (or uair depending on how far they are launched) crash bomb, throw buzz saw directly down, pick it up, throw as item (longer range, more stun, and more damage) dair buzz saw straight down when above and also you can second jump b up OR b up followed by second jump, if you want to be unpredictable with your recovery

If you're looking to build damage with Mega Man, a move that usually catches people off guard, is to rush at them, roll dodge around them(hopefully before they attack!), and instantly hit them with a slide. It usually takes them by surprise, and if you're good, you can turn right back around, and hit them with a Top Spin, while they're still stunned. This is fairly reliable at low to middling percents, but you have to be sparing with this strategy, because it only works if you catch them off guard.

Mega Man's alternate skins are actually the colours shown on him when he has one of the weapons in his base move set equipped from the original Mega Man games. Some colours double up for customs too. Second (red) - Rush ability Third (green) - Leaf Shield/Hyper Bomb Fourth (Brown) - Metal Blade Fifth (Light Blue) - Air Shooter/Ice Slasher Sixth (Light green and yellow) - Slash Claw Seventh (Red and orange) - Flame Sword Eighth (Black and yellow) - Top Spin (Is also Elec Beam from Mega Man 1, but that didn't make it into his moveset)

I found the leaf shield to be, silly enough, useful against projectile spammers. Example, you're in sudden death, and Link tries to fire an arrow at you to catch you off guard. You make a leaf shield and fire it, which not only negates the arrow, but keeps going to hit Link instead. I also found it helpful to break up the pattern of standard B moves with Cloud. It either hit Cloud who's too busy spamming B, or puts pressure on him. Either way, I found the Leaf Shield useful in these cases, and I hope it makes sense for you all.

Nice tips ! What I find really useful for me is to fire a sticky bomb on your enemy then follow up by the mega blaster charge shot ! If you do this what happens is while your enemy still has a sticky on him/her and you charge blast them they'll go flying and depending on health if charge shot don't get em the sticky will finish the job !

Down Smash is one of the best roll punishes in the game, as well as being a great helpless fall punish. I main the Blue Bomber (I have since before EVO) and I love this move for its utility and usefulness against reflectors, especially roll spamming Fox mains.

Advanced Mega Man tech - Mega Man's Up B (Rush Coil) has a lot of ending lag after landing with it. You can drastically lower ending lag by using a Nair just before landing. Honestly, it will save you. I have fallen so many times to Mega Man's long ending Up B lag.

Leaf shield is surprisingly more useful than you think, when thrown it eats most small projectiles giving Megaman a get in option, it can be used as an automatic grab breaker if applied before the grab that is. He can also freely run towards the opponent with the leaf shield on, most of their wake up moves when megaman is close enough with the leaf shield on will be cancelled also he can punish with a grab (you probably know that already tho). Metal blade can be held with leaf shield, b4 or after the shield is up as long as the Metal blade is in the ground before hand. Also, this is more of a personal favorite, sticking the c rash bomb to the opponent then dash attack, the bomb will cycle between both Megaman and the opponent (seeing who it sticks in the end is fun, its like Russian Rulette (i cant spell)). If Megaman is stuck with it he should have enough time to react with shield however opponents wont be able to punish because of the hit stun from Megamans dash attack. ^^

I actually use the up-tilt as an anti aerial, it's very unpredictible as a juggling technique, obviously the knockback is much less but you can use it to deal more damage and if you use it as an edge guard you'll grab the ledge so you'll get invencibility for a short period of time

Leaf shield is good for one thing. Ledge protection. Use it, go to the ledge and when the opponent tries to get the ledge, he will be hit and there is an opening for a spike. Its awesome.

Another thing about Megaman, don't be afraid of edges. If you still have your second jump and recovery (up special), you can charge at the opponent and use forward/back airs to try and get them off screen or make it difficult for them to recover/back air, then jump back on stage using the extra jump and recovery.

I tried really hard to learn and main megaman because I love him! I do believe and decent follow-up for this is, metal blade then gooey bomb, if you know your opponent they want to shield it, so go near and charge your smash blast, with some timing their shield will explode within itself it will make them fly in the air and get hit with a fully charged hit sending them flying giving around 30-40 percent

I found that latching the Crash Bomber onto foes and then launching them off the screen with the side smash can help slow down foes as well as rack up some damage from them being off-screen.

If the opponent has very low damage percentage, when you throw him, he doesn't travel a very long distance, so it's easy to connect chains of up smashes. For example: grab, inmediatly throw down, use spark shot on the opponent twice, and if you can, use flame burst at the end.

Oh and a good setup for hard knuckle is to slightly charge Side -smash and make your opponent move to the bottom to avoid it. They are probably thinking you are charging to full smash. The quickly jump off and attempt a Dair. From here on they are gonna have to be worried about your side smash fake outs and dair follow ups.

Tip: If you're gonna use the Shadow Blade,go in for a Down-Tilt since the Shadow Blade pulls in opponents a little if you spot it,you can also go for an Up-Tilt or a Grab. :D

As Mega Man I throw a Crash bomb then I take the time it takes to explode, almost three seconds. If you do a Dash attack while your enemy has a Crash bomb theres a 50/50 percent that at the end of the Dash Attack the Crash bomb sticks again to your enemy and explodes with him, if you dont time it right... well, it backfires. You can do a follow up with a F-Air or a neutral air, and if your enemy has low percent you can do an Up tilt or an Up Smash.

Oh and another "trick" is to keep switching between one,two, and three lemon shots. The reason why is that, in neutral, if your opponent attacks you when you start shooting, and you always shoot all 3, changing the number will keep them on their toes and make them a bit more hesitant on going on as well as drawing out mistakes from them.

Also I think people would like to know about "Crash bomb cancelling".This AT (Advanced Technique) lets mega man cancel any of his moves. Although it is hard to pull off right. 1st you need to be at 40% or less otherwise this will not work. Second you must have a crash bomb either on you or be close enough for your opponent to be hit by the Explosion. Now, lets say you stick the opponent with a crash bomb. You can run right next to them and do a down smash, which is usually very unsafe. however if you are close to the explosion and under 40% you will take the first few hits of the explosion but can SHIELD the last hit. What this effectively does is that it shortens the amount of time you are unsafe. However there are some complications. first off if the opponent isn't stuck with the bomb they can technically attack you while you are in hit stun from the smaller explosions. Second this only works if you are under 40% and the opponent is over 40%, or unaware of the AT. The reason why is that the opponent can do the same thing and shield the last hit. So this makes it harder to pull off since you need to eb under 40% and they need to be over 40% (it's character dependent but 40% is a safe bet) Now I mentioned that this move can make you safer faster but you can also do some combos (because you're opponent will still be in some hitstun). But that's all the necessary stuff in order to use Bomb Crash Cancels. Just remember the basics and you can get away with doing raw Down Smashes (one of his best KO moves)

Air control can be tricky for some characters, so what I do is when they are in the air, I use combinations of air flurry and the saw blade to keep them busy doging, and side a is the best way to break through defenses and deal good combo damage. fast characters like ZSS have an advantage with a faster side A, so I found his grab to be faster than ZSS' side A, so if your against faster characters like Falcon or ZSS go for grabs. Good opener for air combos is the down A too. Against more zoning characters, primarily ness and lucas, use your normal A to your advantage. It's hard to get in combos unless you mess up their combos with pressured fire. Ness users like to PK fire, then grab, and down smash you up in the air, with two midair A's and PK thunder. So if you can nullify his PK fire with pressure from buzz saw and base A, you can get close for grab, and try using air combos. I'm trying to main as Megaman, so these are some things I learned at a competition just recently. Good Gaming!

I got one at 0-15%. It's simple, but fair. Down throw, uppercut, if you can predict an air dodge, wait and get the sweetspot. in they DI forward, Do a Fair/Forward Ari in stead of an uppercut. if they DI backwards, to a Bair/Back air. If they fast-fall, down smash. I tested it on Training, and I know they can't jump out, but almost DI, so it might be counted as a hit-stun.

When you fight the villager, you can defend against his missile attack with a metal blade, crash bomber, standard attack, or his charge shot. This "shoots down" the missile, rendering useless if you are behind the giant orange thing at the wilys castle stage and they are trying to get you from the front.

You missed the most important part. Megaman has a pseudo wavedash woth his blade that combos into itself. 1. Throw blade on ground 2. Pick up blade with A or shorthop Airdodge if enemy is closing in **3. Preform a dash 4. Jump 5. Quickly cancel the jump with Down+A **6. Press A again to pick back up 7. Repeat 3-6 while touching opponent to combo into itself 8. Finish with uTilt to kill You are now a better Megaman player by 7000% due to free combos XD

With the jab/nair/s-tilt if the buster itself hits the opponent then you get a little bit extra knockback and damage (1% per hit)

I think I got a decent strategy the crash bomb is the main move though You crash bomb your opponent then as they try to get close to you beat or rush coil to the other side of the stage and repeat. Good at taking shields and damage but can only work on certain opponents

The leaf shields other purpose is to stop opponents as they get close to you allowing you to get a grab

just a little thing i found out is that mega man downthrow to forward air combo works from 0 to 50%

Crash bomber to Metal Blade isn't guaranteed, but the only way to avoid is to shield.

if you watch some other vids, you can jump, throw the gear diagnally towards the opponent, fall with that blade, and if the opponent gets hit get em with the Mega Upper (Shoryuken!!!)

His down special isn't completely useless. If you activate it, you can run over and grab them while the leaf shield acts as a more effective pummel
