At least you have a real Sky installer driving a sky van, I got some foreign guy with barely a word of English who was a sub contractor for Sky, he wasn't too sure about alot of stuff on screen, he handed me a card with a phone number on it (Sky) if I had any issues

It's a pity that sky engineers were not taught how to install the sky q box correctly. I'm a 71YEAR old pensioner i have had sky for two weeks in that time two engineers from sky have been out and told me it was my aerial at fault i paid 200 pounds to have a dish and a pole and bracket fitted the man wsa here for four hours and discovered the sky q box was faulty. I can't fault the man who fitted my dish he phoned sky himself and told them it was a faulty box and he had worked as an engineer for over 40years he told sky to send a senior engineer out to sort it out he said he worked for sky 25years ago so he knows what he is talking about at that point sky said they would send a senior engineer out. The ones who come to fit the boxes are not fully qualified engineers. I'm not rich by any means but I got my pension yesterday and had to pay it all out on my sky dish. I do not smoke or drink alcohol i live in independent living accommodation my mobility is not so good. I do not have the internet as i would have to have a landline phone which would mean an extra thirty to forty pounds a month on my bill which i can't afford. Fingers crossed sky will get it right this time.

You would be better off getting the internet and ditching Sky. You could have freeview, Pluto TV and if you wanted Netflix. Pluto Tv is free.

i think it depends who you get as some are in a rush and cba and some do it properly the one i had actually pinned up the cable and ran it through my trunking and fastened it all up but then others just leave the cable hanging everywhere

He didn’t get much knowledge from the installer about this Sky Q box, and he should have made aware of the broadband uses for this box, the best bit I liked is the new cable being used and the new connectors being used, I also would have liked to see a much tidier installation?.

they were like that with me didnt explain anything the first installer i had was a 3rd party and he was moody and a moaner but the other sky engineers have been fine

Can you help please - since changing my Sky HD box to Sky Q my freeview on my Smart Tv no longer works and TV keeps saying scan in channels, have tried scanning the TV via option of Aerial and cable but both bring up no channels,. After looking at various sites online it says I need an aerial splitter. Does that go into the sky q box, and if so should it be a splitter box that is 1 male-2 female, and as there are 2 aerial looking sockets at back of Sky Q box which hole does the splitter go in to. I have plenty of spare aerial cables but just need to know what type of splitter I need. Thanks

I’m upgrading from sky+ HD to SkyQ tomorrow, will they need to remove the old signal leads and replace them? As I’ve got them threaded behind my entertainment cabinet and it’s gonna be a ball ache to have to remove them and put new leads in! Surely it’s just a straight swap of the boxes?

I doubt that. To install Sky Q, the HDMI cable on the Sky+HD Box must also be removed before a 4K HDMI Cable is installed. My concern is to do with the wires going through a gap in the back of the TV towards the ports. Mine is getting installed on Thursday

You would have got UHD if you had a 2TB box. I got one for £25 as I have has sky for 20 years and they give me loads of money off!

i've noticed loads of moaners about the cost but i've never had a issue i just phone up and lay it on and on that i'm a vip customer etc etc and i get huge discounts 🤣 sky sports should of been £30 for all 11 channels but they gave it to me for £16 lol

Is a sky q tv box different to a sky q hub for internet ? And can they be in different places?

Yes, the router is only a portal for the internet where a Q mini box is connected via wifi FROM the router and main Q box (with wires going to the satellite dish)

I’m getting Sky q tomorrow can they use the old wires from my Sky hd box and the old sky dish? And if I wanted can I request them to put new wires and a new dish on?

They will need to change the thing on the dish but cables are all fine

Yes, you can request a new dish and new cables if they deem the old dish and cable to be worn. The dish has to be accessed in any event because Q uses a wideband LNB (low noise blocker) that also stops free to air being used from the same dish otherwise you can ask the engineer for a hybrid LNB.

Bad install brick dust everywhere, tape a bag to the wall to collect brick dust, also why didn’t he drill the hole for the coax cables to first shelf where the customer want sky q locating?

Mine had his own vac. Wouldve gone nuts if they drilled my hole in the middle of the wall. My fitter was great, set it up on my av system too

One of things that was never mentioned is that when the power goes off, there is quite a time for the box to reboot?.

The old box classic HD takes 120 seconds or 2 minutes to reboot and Q takes about 30 seconds or less if its already set up in the house.

@Is It Worth It? Yes Sky Q is far superior than the classic HD box also because your old HD box is taking so long to reboot it's because the box memory and HD is full.

Two coax cables which are same diameter approx as one standard type you would say buy from b and q, these have been specially made for sky as they will go through a small diameter hole in your brickwork
