@Skycedi that was a fun video, you mention while trying to show respect for Koreans custom by speaking the language at a restaurant, the korean person continue to speak English back to you. There are two ways to look at this 1. The person could have been trying to also show you respect assuming you speak English. 2. Maybe the person don't get as much chance to practice his own ability to speak English since he or she is surrounded in a country that main language is Korean. Two sides. 😊

You don't get it. It was insulting to Ced because he speaks perfect Korean, and we both know that if Ced was a full-blooded Korean, the waiter would not have spoken English to him. He did not speak English to Ced "just to practice his English." Don't patronize Ced, he is not stupid.
@monicalee13745 жыл бұрын
Victoria Arzú NO! I get it. You don’t seem to understand. I am Korean decent, born and raised in Canada. When I was there last year, the shop keepers or waiters knew I was visiting and even though I speak Korean they wanted to show me that they can speak English. It was with good intentions, Koreans aren’t that disrespectful.
@skycedi5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that perspective also makes sense. It’s seems to be a battle of who can speak the “foreign language” first haha ~
@thevictoriaarzushow5 жыл бұрын
@@monicalee1374 Whatever! We can go back and forth on whether it seems disrespectful or not, but the point is that Ced CLEARLY was bothered by it, and only HE KNOWS the vibe that the waiter was giving---we don't. Furthermore, I know what it is like to be dismissed at first glance. I am black. Afro-Latina, to be specific. And when I speak Spanish to Hispanics, a form of rejection is when they are intentionally and adamantly speaking English, even when my Spanish is perfect. It is called a microaggression, and trust me, this is something that black people from all backgrounds deal with when dealing with non-black people. So no, you DON'T understand, and you never will!
@jeffbaril5485 жыл бұрын
I find it ironic that so many cultures has a thing about skin tone. In most cultures lighter skin is desired. I'm pretty sure the negative comments you receive are more about his black side. Sadly black people are still depicted negatively and are demonized in many cultures around the world.

Happy that you guys enjoy each others company and living it up while you are young. I hope your relationship continues to grow and work towards your goals. I'm half Korean as well. My mother passed away recently and I realized that I was so blessed to be exposed to the Korean culture. As a child I used to be ashamed to be mixed because people constantly were curious about my ethnicity and even got teased back in the day as Im much older than you two. Sometimes I felt so alone in the world in respect to connecting with other halfies. Well, I got over that hurdle and I love me as I am and have for a long time. I am grateful for your videos because you may be helping another human being not feel like an outcast or alone. You are also promoting a positive image of mixed Asian people . I am always amazed at how similar halfies can sound about life in general like we were raised by the same family. I am Native American and Korean, I do think for me, I am affected more by my mother's raising me. In Native American, the mom raises you as Native. I was raised not knowing about the Korean side, so when I found out, it fit, I had always been drawn to Korean everything, and although my mom died when I was still young, I wonder, did my being drawn to Korea really bother her or surprise her... Now I am working towards moving to Korea and using DNA to find my dad's family. I would say I used to feel mostly Native, even tho I look mixed. Now, I can tell I feel down the middle both, and it feels and fits just right. BTW I can also see the similarities that a lot of halfies Koreans have with features, ears, nose bridge, even inner eyelid...

Hearing Becky's thoughts about tanning at the 7:21 mark reminded me of something I read about. Have you heard of the book Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin? If you haven't I can sum it up here: basically, this white journalist/writer had his skin temporarily darkened to look like an African-American man, and as a social experiment, traveled through the segregated South in 1959-1960 to see first-hand what it was like for African-Americans under Jim Crow. After he published his book in 1961, Griffin ended up becoming an outspoken supporter of racial equality from that point on (to the point where he was actually assaulted by KKK members once). Given that changing his skin tone was important for his social experiment to work, do either you or Becky feel like that would cross the line that she speaks about at 7:21? Or given the social context of the time period when this book was written, do you think it was okay in this temporary instance? Really interested in hearing your guys' thoughts.
