I live in the western part of South Carolina where the hurricane came through. The lack of compassion and empathy in this young person towards suffering people is incredibly sad. The indoctrination that it takes so that a person believes it is reasonable to wish harm to someone because they are assuming a political inclination different from their own is lazy, intolerant, and evil. I have never in my life seen a conservative or independent leaning American celebrate the widespread destruction of "blue state" areas. When Maui suffered I remember people sending money and talking about the need for those people to get more help. Joe Biden was recently asked if he was going to send federal resources to help the states affected by the hurricane. He said we had no resources but just sent Israel and Ukraine $8 billion more a piece. We need actual government for Americans to restore this nation and heal the divide.

Chemical plants in Conyers Georgia exploded yesterday and has been spewing massive amounts of toxic fumes into the air. The destruction and devastation from the hurricane is enormous and now chemical plants/bio labs are burning. Usually our national guards are deployed to help deal with natural disasters. Do you know WHERE many of the southern states national guards are? In Kuwait ready to help ISRAEL. I am beyond sick and tired of Israel and Ukraine consuming our resources. We don't have money and resources for millions of Americans suffering but we do for extremely wealthy Israel?

I live in WNC and she couldn't be more wrong. First of all, Asheville is a very liberal city. Secondly, all of these counties are filled with the nicest, kindest people and I'm so proud of the way we've all been pulling together and helping each other. We have a lot of conservatives and liberals working together and it doesn't matter what our politics are--we are all human beings. I was helping sort donations today that are being sent to Asheville and people just kept giving more all day long. We also unloaded 9,000 lbs of water tonight that was donated, among other things. People are going to great lengths to help find family members. It's amazing what's happening here. So many stories of courage and sacrifice going on right now.

Concerning the young “lady” who made the remarks about NC and TN being a bunch of racists, she has clearly never been to the area affected by the storm. Western NC includes Asheville, possibly the most liberal city in the state, the college town of boone, and a booming tourist area known as the high country. It’s the only area in the state that I know of with legal cannabis dispensaries.Nobody should celebrate the demise of others regardless of political views, but the people who were affected by the storm were most likely the people she identified with. Even if they weren’t it isn’t wise nor decent to wish evil on others.
