ladies and gentlemen: this is what can be done on sound chip from 45-year old video game console which was never intended to play music, only simple in-game sounds.

it seems crazy knowing that the Atari 2600 is three years from being an antique

the tone at the beginning is the same as my alarm clock and it gives me a heart attack

If you're wondering why atari waves look like that, it's cause the 2600 TIA uses a bunch of random number generators rather than simple counters because it took less circuitry
@hakemon5 жыл бұрын
Not sure where you read that. The TIA only has a pseudo RNG for white noise, called a LFSR. This is achieved by quickly changing the frequency of a pulse wave. That's the two channels 9-bit polynomial counter.
@TroyFullwood5 жыл бұрын
@@hakemon i meant the haphazard patterns of the square wave turning on and off for the different audio tones
@hakemon5 жыл бұрын
@@TroyFullwood Considering a lot of games don't do that though (Like Donkey Kong for example), where did you read this?
@VinsCool5 жыл бұрын
Yuup! Most tones and basses are actually periodic noises due to this. Gives a crunchy charm to it!
@hakemon5 жыл бұрын
@@VinsCool Having read up on TIA programming, that little bit of noise at the beginning of each noise is generally produced by the external circuitry around the TIA. Emulators only now just emulate that to give a correct sound, but I have not found ANY proof in regards to a random number generator, etc.

OMG this goes so fucking hard!!!! And on a 2-channel chip that is notorious for sounding out of tune due to the tech being so primitive!! And it goes on for 7 whole minutes!! This mustve taken up SO much ROM space!!!

What did you used to create the music? I know its atari but i would like to know the full setup. THX!
@-originalLemon-4 ай бұрын
Acrouzet didn't create the music, and also, all I can say is that you should use TiaTune, a tracker with a in tune pitch driver for the Atari Tia.
