Damian De Allende is one of the most underrated players ever. For me South Africa’s player of the tournament in 2019, constantly performs, best defensive back, maybe ever. Gets over the gainline every single time.

Its so good to hear him getting mentioned. He gets a lot of stick for crashing the ball and not spreading it enough but he does everything so well and to the tee of the coach. Can't ask for more. And there's where the AB's are missing Nonu who always attracted 2 defenders to provide space in the wider channels. Big physical and balanced 12 is worth gold.

As a South African I disagree. Give that props to the likes of Pieter-Steph. Besides that 1 run De Allende did through England he was very quiet. Agreed. Unfortunately I reckon the Jordie+Rieko combo just isn't paying enough dividends. They just don't seem as powerful or as threatening when compared with other top tier centres like: De Allende, Kriel, Ringrose, Aki (when in form like in RWC23), France's Dante, England's Ollie Lawrence, just to name a few. While Rieko has electric feet no doubt but he seems to consistently soft on contact which makes him highly vulnerable to turnovers at top tier level. @@dcs4880 If NFL was a good sport it would be a global sport. It's just hyped by marketing and image which makes it popular. Like league. So teams tend to try to draw penalties from the opposition, through pick and go or mauls, instead of running the ball. Which will get you points but as we saw on the weekend not enough to win. I appreciate being a Ref is a tough job because of the speed of the game, some of the Laws etc & certainly us Couch Critics have a different view of the game due to the various camera angles, zooms, slow mos etc than what the Ref has in real time, sometimes from the other side of the scrum, but between the Ref, ARs & the TMO, we all should be in 'general' agreement about the decisions in all games played. Does anyone know? Is the TMO a single person or is it a team of people headed up by the named TMO individual? And when a Yellow Card is to be reviewed by the Bunker, who is the Bunker person/Team? Can the TMO and/or their Assistants, the Bunker and/or their assistants & the 4th Official (on the sideline) be named as well please? On an aside, Nigel Owens when once answering a question on his KZbin World Rugby Whistle Watch channel about whether a TMO has to be qualified/experienced enough to be able to Referee in the middle to which Nigel’s answer was NO. So while Marius Jonker, the TMO for Fra vs NZ, is an experienced referee of years gone by, some TMOs are not able to referee at that level so why are they allowed to guide/overrule the Ref? The TMO says things like “I would like to show a clear head on head contact” or "I would like to show you a clear forward pass" whereas the TMO should say “I would you to review a situation” & allow the Ref (& the ARs if required) to see what they think. And then show ALL of the angles preferably split screen, normal speed, slow mo, frame by frame & freeze frame (if required). The final decision has to be made by the Ref. And could the TMOs remit please be stated/stipulated prior to any game/tournament so that us fans are informed & kept aware of what the TMO is allowed to do or not? Is it possible for a Ref to slightly alter the TMOs remit from what World Rugby have stipulated. And when their is 'clear head contact' & a 'high degree of danger', could the Mouthguard Impact reading also be supplied and/or taken into account? If the reading is low (enough), is that a mitigating factor? What reading initiates the Sideline Doctor to impose a HIA vs what reading would be low enough for mitigation - asking for a friend. Going over the top but will there be the day when all players will have to wear Headwear and Sensors in certain parts of their clothing, around the shoulders etc, that measures the respective impacts? Again, we can't have a game without Referees & it is a tough gig but I think we just all want consistency & transparency.

@lovemysport79023 сағат бұрын
I agree about the England youngsters coming through but with the World Rankings, Eng may get to be in the Top 3 but the Rankings as a whole is all a bit of a 'farce' in that the SH Teams potentially slide down the table via results in the Six Nations when the SH Teams are not playing or participating. Similarly when the SH are participating in the Rugby Championship & the NH Teams are having a break & I don't know if you get more points for an Away win compared to a Home win etc if you were playing the same opposition getting the same result/score in the other country. And then the NH Teams & especially the Home Nations would have more Home games typically in the same Stadium each year i.e. Twickenham, Cardiff, Aviva & Murrayfield whereas I doubt that none of SA, NZ, Aus or Arg have played consecutive tests at the same ground this year as they usually take the various games around their countries. In the Autumn Internationals, the Home Nations get to be in Camp, stay in the same hotel & play at the same ground for 5-6 weeks whereas the SH Teams sometimes only have a 6 day turn around from one game to the other which obviously includes, travel, different hotels, different training facilities, sometimes a different language etc. Are those difficulties taken into account hence why I find that the rankings are more of a discussion point.

Bok fan here, in the first half I thought the AB’s were know we’re back, but in the second half you looked more mechanical. I think you are very close to being ‘back’ very, very close in fact. A tweak here or there and the AB’s will once again be extremely hard to beat. Before anyone comments the Boks were also not great I know, but there are reasons.

Fellas I wondered if you could cover off from your point of view what Reiko has given the ABs playing centre this year and where you see him best fitting in moving forward.. the Ireland game I felt people unfairly criticised his game but I feel that a lot of what he did in that game (good D, tough carries, good quick hands to give the outsides space) is what we used to (and still do) praise Conrad smith for. Do you think the criticism of Reiko at 13 is justified?
@jayduplessis7698Сағат бұрын
Instead of just having "player of the year", I think the selection panel should first pick the best prop, hooker, lock, loose forward, scrum half, fly half, centre and outside back... and THEN select the player of the year from that group. That way more players get recognition.

The more things change the more they remain the same. In 1999 when France beat the all blacks in a world cup semi- final the French used the same tactics. The pace of Phillip Bernat Salles and Christophe Dominici on kick aheads beat the blacks on that occassion.

With regards to Scooter’s decision to go for the 3 points at the end vs going for a 5 pointer, hindsight is a ‘beautiful’ thing. For the 5 pointer, the kick would have had to been in the corner, the Line-out successful & then for the try to be scored by whoever - lots of opportunities for things to go wrong & people would then be saying ‘he should have taken the easy 3’ and come back down the field for another 3. I personally was saying to go for the 3 especially as while there was only 6 mins on the clock, there is invariably a lot of ‘injury’ time due to the game not finishing until the ball is ‘dead’. France would have been scared to have done anything wrong, even marginally, for fear of conceding a kickable penalty. As it turned the ABs did make it back into the French Half & around the 77min mark when DMac broke to about the France 10m passing onto Jordan, France could potentially have been pinged for some ‘lazy runners’ who didn’t get back onside fast enough but they weren’t picked up or the ABs didn’t milk for the penalty. I think it was the French 16, 20 & 18 who could have been milked or pinged for an offence. Shortly after that, if the pass to Reiko had have been successful with ALB & Cortez in support, that possession could have led to a try, penalty or Drop Kick attempt but instead the ball was cleared back down into ABs territory. After the clock had gone red, it wasn't a very good camera shot but I thought DMac was caught high by Fickou in a 2 man tackle but that wasn’t awarded. A whole bunch of IFs & so many parallel universes if only this or if only that but in reality the Official’s decisions should not have been a factor & taken out of their hands by having taken more scoring opportunities earlier and cutting down of the needless AB penalties resulting in points to France, lost territory, momentum etc. All good learnings for the future when the gap between the current top 4-8 countries gets smaller each year and these learnings could prove invaluable somewhere down the line hopefully…

It's always good to wake up to the Aotearoa rugby pod here in South Africa. I feel like the top four can all beat each other on their day. Ireland's recent form is concerning, and the French not sending their best players on tour might come back to bite them in a World Cup knock out match when the majority of fans aren't on their side.

Ireland seem to be on the other side of the peak with the current players. The French need to learn to win down under and sending their 2nd stringers to get thrashed is a really bad idea with the WC in Oz.

Our attacking 22m strategy needs to be simple that means GO DIRECT! Everytime we tried to play wide we were unsuccessful as opposed to just keep it in the forwards keep it tight and breakdown their goal line defence. If 15 players are standing on the try line (like a wall) and you form numbers to attack a certain spot anywhere along that wall, it’s gonna eventually break! Or they will concede one way or another due to the pressure and playing direct is low risk. In terms of our attack in general? We play way to conservative as almost we’re too affraid to make decisions or take risk? I see a lot of players who normally love to express themselves hesitate with ball in hand? players drop thier heads if they make a mistake etc it’s almost like we’re too affraid to take risks and to be singled out on the Monday video review 😂 i.e not backing ourselves to kick for the corner when the set piece was dominant the whole game🤷🏻♂️ Australia did it 3 times vs Wales and scored so why are not backing ourselves? On a positive, I think Razor is doing a fantastic job growing this squad. The squad of players in the forwards is the best I’ve seen for a long time with power, skill, youth and experienced players, they keep getting better and better and are a lot more cohesive than the backs. Overall I think the All Blacks are in a good place I just think we need to dig deeper into our roots what’s our identity what will separate us from the competition what will make us great again?

We didnt control the tempo. We put the French under pressure in the first half. 2nd half we eased off going for penalty kick instead of going for corner and not kicking enough for terrority and relying on our defence to keep them pinned and force mistake or turnover. French forwards were tired and we dominated them in the scrum and lineout.

I think the basic skills for NZ has been going down since Smith and Byrne finished with the ABs mid way through the 2019 RWC run, IMHO. Dropped ball and poor handling in contact has been a slow infection in NZ international rugger for a number of years now. Razor has had his first year in international Rugby, won 1 less than I thought he would, but I think the ABs have some better years ahead. Next year will be his acid test.

The stats clearly suggest that the ABs should have won. 11 linebreaks to 4 and 31 defenders beaten by NZ versus 10 from France. They dominated the game, we all could see it, and it was just a lack of polish with the final pass etc that prevented them from winning. I don't know why you are so upset, they are just stating what we all think and what we all saw.

@jodeciyelash58012 сағат бұрын
Taking 3 points is why we lost especially when your BEHIND!!. The kick restart is beneficial to the defensive team and going up by 3’s is not a reward it’s respecting the french and it certainly not demoralising to the French when a team behind is opting to take the 3 especially if it’s the All blacks. also gives them a break in play and if not boost there morale. I think we need to play more footy when in the red zone. Have you seen our back row?? Let them run a muck. I don’t care if all the tries a from the forwards cause the backs aren’t cutting it at the moment,to many individual play and not linking up enough.

The neck rolls is becoming a joke for all teams,its painful to watch. Ofa was fine, when Taylor came in for a clean out he knock Ofa off Blance making it look like one. Refs need to look at it and identify intent to accident. Happened to Englang against south africa too. Also in the breakdown show. They noticed 7 incidents of that neck roll that went unnoticed. If you gonna penalize one then get them all

This introduction of a 5th "official" who's job is to look for foul play is problematic. If your only job is to look for problems, you're going to find problems whether they are there or not. I'm all for tries coming from fair play but the ref on the field needs to make the call and not simply accept what this pseudo tmo has to say. The neck roll in the AB's game and that so called forward pass to Arendse are clear examples of this system not working. Not sure who made the call for the pass but the "neck roll" call was not made by the tmo if I remember correctly.

To me, Kolbe is amazing, yes, but that England Fullback was useless, did much to flatter, his defence on that crosskick, way he just charged brainlessly, no plan, was schoolboy rugby lvl mistake, he made it far to easy.

who are your top steppers in the world. the man says 2 new All Blacks. it tells you just how biased all these commentators are. they cant think past their country. but then again everyone in rugby really is biased. whenever they ask who is the best. Someone mentions their country man or a person they watch week in and week out. just to answer the question that was asked. Shouldnt Cheslin Kolbe be number one stepper in the world. He has proven it for years and just did it to England this past week as he did in the rugby world cup final 2009 to England. what made me see the bias is because he ddnt even mention him in the top 3 players in the world
