Lot of respect for both of you. Ben, you showed integrity by asking direct and pressing questions and even pushing to get a proper answer. Dan... Big ups for still doing the pod despite being in the thick of it. You should defend your team. Especially in tough times. As a Saffa, it was clear that this game wasn't easy. It was hard work. A much improved English side over the one that played under Shady Eddie. The 6N will be interesting.

Boks fan here, cheer up boys. England is a competitive team and will be a force to reckon with in the future. Colesey is right, the boys staid close to all the top teams. They are very good, but thats it. They are in the right place in the rankings between 5 and 10. Its just improvements across the board that are needed. Nope, you dont get beaten by NZ, Aus and Boks and somehow 'progress'. With NZ, England could have won - a missed kick. Aus didnt gave up and just beaten them. Boks was a two score game. And they were lucky that that pass was deemed forward to disallow the try, only one funny camera angle shows a possible forard, the others show clearly the momentum of the passer being in front of the ball. England has fired their best shots and came up short, simple as that.

Firstly - Great content, as always, on this great channel Secondly - Massive, massive respect to Coley for coming on week after week after losing games and giving his honest opinion. Can’t think of many players willing to put themselves out there like that Thirdly - Great stuff Ben for asking the difficult questions and challenging your good friend. Really ups the integrity of this channel Lastly - with all of the above said, I am more worried about England now than before. It must be incredibly frustrating for Coley what England are going through and that shows. It seems he doesn’t really know what the problems are in the team to get them over the line and a lot of the answers he gives has a ‘frustrated ‘, ‘excuse’ and ‘what if’ tone to it. Once again, I get that. I would probably react the in same way. All the teams, however, I’ve seen turn a situation like this around had a different attitude in my opinion. More self-reflection, more accepting responsibility and more understanding of why they keep getting beat. More accepting of the fact that things are not all well and something is not right at the moment. Might just be how I interpret the situation, but my option none the less. Great stuff gents!

I think (as a Saffa) it is unfair to ask Coles these questions. He has to defend his team. Any team in the Top 6 can beat each other. ENG is on a terrible run. They will have to turn it around. You can't coach every time a team goes through a terrible run. Anyway the DEMAND for International Rugby Coaches outstripped the SUPPLY.

I find it strange that there is confusion regarding why England are losing these games. Saying “we should’ve won those games” is fantasy. The team that wins, is the one that deserved it. Simple. They lost these games because they have no clear approach to red zone game management. That’s coaching, which means it’s fixable. The errors that are recurring in the final quarter of games are happening because the team and game drivers are directionless, which leads to inaccurate execution of skills and decision making. Indecision causes impatience which inevitably leads to unforced errors and indiscipline. The closer you get to the opposition line, the less space there is, the more structured your attack needs to be.

Dan Cole has a point. The media is perpetuating a message that England SHOULD be the favorites in every matchup they play, but this is just not the truth. You have to acknowledge first you aren't the best, then you need to identify the areas you need to improve. Why is it that the media think England is entitled to win? England isn't going backwards, the other teams are just THAT good and England need to catchup. This is the truth you need to accept.

This is less of a rugby problem and more of a media problem. They have gone into FIFA World Cups that you know stand no chance against the likes of Brazil, Germany or Spain, but they would be routed as favourites. In cricket we would see them go up against the 2000-2010 Aussies in a series where they were absolutely blitzed, but beforehand we would hear how great this team is and how much pressure they would put the Aussies under.

I will be behind this England through thick and thin and Dan Cole is right people are to fickle with their support. England are far from perfect and they will most likely keep making mistakes however i am a firm believer that it will click eventually and we will be up there competing with the best. Is their performance at the moment good enough? Not really but we just see what happens, I have actually seen more SA fans in this comment section being positive about England than England fans which is alarming. We went toe to toe with one of the best teams of all time and weren't good enough. At the end of the day its a game who people take way to seriously, the highs would not be so glorious without the lows.

I love every episode and the insight that you give us supporters. This was a challenging weekend and the way that Ben and Dan dissected the game, but more particularly the way the media perceived the game is brilliant. Coley was exactly right 95% of people are supportive, but those voices do not sell papers, or generate clicks on websites. It is tight margins at the top level, and there are simple touches that have not gone our way, and as Coley said we lost by a couple of points and we are the worse team in the world, but France lose to the same team by a similar margin and they are the greatest teams in the world. After the match on Saturday my partner and I asked how can we get positive messages to the team so the voices of the 95% can be heard? There is no way on the RFU website to do that, social media, on the whole is more negative than positive. This England team, under the leadership of Steve Borthwick will achieve great things, they can take this series and go into the Six Nations and do well, lets hope they do and see the media spin on their tails!

Coley I’m with you 100%! Can we all please be more positive. I am so tired of all areas of English media leading the charge to slate and put down our own team week after week. It can only negatively affect the boys. Are we the finished article? No. Have we shown the potentially to beat all 5 of the top teams in the world? Yes! And it’s year 1 of the WC cycle with a relatively new team and new staff. We’ve not played well and many of the players have not consistently played to their potential and yet we still were in a position to beat the ABs three times, France and the Boks. Ireland lose to the ABs by 10 points. France only just scrapped a win to ABs by 1 point. Scotland loose to the Boks by 17 points. Wales got pumped by the Aussies. We are talking tiny changes. Small individual errors. A mindset shift. A bit more cohesion. Build experience for the new very talented young players coming through so there is more impact off the bench. Give Joe El-Abd time to tweak the defence. It’s there for us boys. Back the lads! COME ON THE BOYS!

According to the law, the forward pass try should have stood. Reason being: On field decision was try. This means the TMO needs to find conclusive evidence that it was forward. They had two replays - one was bordering on forward (argument for both forward or not forward) and the other one looked backwards. This means there was no conclusive evidence to overturn the try. There was still doubt, not conclusive.

Based on Coley's comments, I think it probably is worth nothing that over the past few years the international rugby landscape has changed. All teams have slumps, but the general quality is much higher and the scorelines don't always show it. I think we're still used to saying Italy are terrible and the new boys to the 6N (they've been in it 24 years) and similar narratives. But really in the 6N England, Ireland and Wales really took off and were challenging the SH teams for that genuine spot (remember the ABs had a 10 year stretch of being on top of the world rankings), Scotland and Italy didn't. France took a bit longer but they're there now. Scotland in the past 5-10 years have got to that level too, not winning grand slams like the others but at least able to compete against anyone in the 6N, bar maybe Ireland. My point is, no one is a whipping boy in the 6N now, you could lose to anyone. And it's the same when we expand to the SH, Japan and Argentina are genuine options that really weren't 10 years ago. They were on the edge of breaking through and obviously in 2015 Japan beat SA. The island nations you're never sure what you're going to get, but a full strength Fiji - they're definitely top 10 right now. To me you've got the ABs and the Boks, then you've got 10 teams who can beat one another and can quickly become a losing streak. I'm a Scotland supporter and we for whatever reason avoided it by playing Fiji out of the official test window, so they're missing players and then Portugal. That's really how far you need to go where you don't have to start your strongest team. It wasn't that long ago teams like England would rest players against Scotland, and it's only been within the past 5 seasons the other 5 Nations stopped doing that against Italy. England do need to get some wins, and maybe it means taking a team like Portgual, Georgia etc. But they also won the U20s Championship this year, France came 2nd and Scotland won the lower Trophy to get back into the Championship. There's talent coming through and there's talent in this England squad now. I don't think things are that bad for England right now, just the competition is incredibly high.

I think the big issue is the défense coach. The systems doesn’t appear cohesive and engrained. Add a weakness at set piece from time to time, especially in the scrum and that’s enough. I think the defense coach is not good enough to be where he is and only got the job because the better man left.

Feel bad for Dan having to take the brunt of this grilling. I'd say the way the current rules are, defensively it is too easy to shut games down... We've been here before - I suspect that World Rugby will tweak things at some point to push defences back a bit and maybe look at some of the current offside rules. New Zealand and Australia are two teams that have been looking at some interesting tactics to split blitz defensive lines - next year will be interesting if Northern Hemisphere teams don't move their game on a bit...

This season: Springboks had 50 different players being exchanged .....and still win?? *World rugby teams should be afraid when Rassie selects HIS FINAL 23/25 PLAYERS 🤗🤗🤗

Of course Cole will defend the team...hes on the inside. However, Imo i thought he spoke with conviction and believed in what he was saying so well done him. Thought youngs was good for getting stuck in and not giving his mate an easy ride.

‘If we win the World Cup no one cares ‘ - agreed 100%, but if we don’t it, which we won’t, then it would be nice to win a few games and maybe a six nations instead wouldn’t it….

Good honest chat lads and Coley is right, most Eng fans know the team are trying their hearts out, it’s just the media being dicks. I never go to the pub with my English top on expecting a win, anything can happen in international rugby. So many teams are evenly matched. We may have lost the last three closely (all be it didn’t deserve a chance at the win in any other than maybe NZ) but we also won most of our successful games by a hairs breadth. As Len highlights. I don’t think the coaches have it sorted in terms of overall aims yet, but the defensive frailties are a priority to sort. And I wish SB would be more forceful in recognising mistakes post match. For England fans it’s hard stuck between the fantasy expectations of Eng media and reluctance to admit there’s a fart in the spacesuit by the management. But the boys are trying. Keep Marcus on at 10 for the whole game, keep Underhill in (why was he not?!!), retain a 9 consistently, give Freddie S another test and promote some of the U20 props asap.

I personally think Borthwick needs to go but I respect how loyal Dan Cole is to the set up.

Most South Africans I've heard feel that this England team is close to cracking it. I'm not a huge Brothwick fan and he has made some obvious mistakes. But the team is improving. The margins are so so small and I do think psychology plays a big role. The Boks have played some really poor first halves, but they know how to hang in there and manage games. OK, their bench is much better than the other teams' but resilience does play a big role. I completely understand Coley's frustration with the media. I actually think that most pundits have a very limited understanding of the game.

I’m sure Dan Cole believes Borthwick is the right man for the job. He’s still getting caps under him. He wouldn’t get anymore caps under anyone else.

The team needs better on-field management as we're not controlling games very well... It's surprising how so many let Smith off the hook and ask no questions of him. Yes, he might be the best player on the pitch, but can he control an international team?... Maybe.

People saying come on Coley tell the truth etc… Why would he jeopardise his final part of his career by slagging off management on a vlog. Get Big Joe on as his England stint is done. He will say how it is.

Everyone forgets there were 2 teams in this game, Yes England fell short by 9, but I think South africa also fell short by the same margins, This game could quite easily have been by 18 or 20 points, "IF" is a terrible word here. Rugby applies to both teams taking their chances with the better team ending up as a winner in most occasions. England are using the same excuses, game after game after game, with the same outcomes. If you start blaming the bounce of the ball on your final results, you will find the ball will bounce will get even worse. Gary Player once said that, "The harder he practised, the luckier het got!"

Rassie has a saying "chase the lost causes". Yeah, maybe it was a fluke. Maybe you won't see another try like that in ten years. But it wouldn't have happened if we didn't go for the charge downs and it wouldn't have happened if we didn't chase. I'm happy to chalk down that try due to luck, but I do want the effort in chasing it down also acknowledged.

Good defence Dan but surely our defence would be better if it was blended rather than pure rush? Why did two amazing coaches leave post the summer tour? Why was Marcus subbed for a rusty George at a crucial time V NZ when he was playing well? 90% is a tad high for fans that fully support the Borthwick plan. Add in that the bench is incredibly weak and giving Ted Hill and Tom Willis a go would be welcome. I think that some of the U20s players, especially in your position, will be exciting, but they probably need another year in the prem. I think we will be tough come the RWC but we desperately need a proper 12. The pack is going quite well, but the backs rely on some Marcus magic as the midfield is below par. Lots to improve on.

Leave the neck roll out of it...that pass was way forward into next year. Our try that wasn't a forward pass period but yeah we were playing so badly and still won. You guys played extremely great and lost 😂😂😂

I understand where they’re coming from but every team can look at things this way, even the springboks made mistakes. The team that wins is the one that makes the least mistakes and also rectifies for their mistakes. South Africa did better at that and so they deserved the win.

You can't count the opportunities you missed and put it down to "margins". If you count the opportunities the Boks missed they'd have put 40 plus on the scoreboard.

England are just not good enough as a collective, including coaches, to be in the top five. They should just accept being between 5 and 10. They are a very good side, just not top drawer.

Real petulant takes from Cole. Good points raised by Youngs - basically every response “yeah but”. No wonder the England team are dragging if this is the chat inside camp.

Being one of the best teams in the world actually means that you're not going to win every single game. Only THE best team can do that. If England was winning every second game instead of 5 in a row, while still sporting a 50% win record, there wouldn't be so many complaints. Only one team can be THE best. Period
