Yes my dad got a rat terrier he named Pinto when he was 70, my dad died at 87, and his Pinto was still living. This summer my mom finally had Pinto put down at 20 years old, his health was rapidly deteriorating. It made me sad, that little dog was a final link to my dad, he loved that little dog. The house felt emptier without Pinto there, it felt like losing Dad all over again, I still haven't fully gotten over it, life can be so sad.

Im 40 and i stress out about that. I dont wanna go to work one day and not come home and my pets are left wondering what happened.

I am not even 40 and worry about my animals. One of them is retarded/ special needs and has to be handled properly. I have communicated with friends on how and who will take care of them if I die before them. I feel it is part of responsibility in their life. Animals are so awesome!

Sorry to hear about Slamfire. Always enjoyed my visits with the big furry critter and would be disappointed if he didn't make an appearance. Such a lucky animal; you took him in when you didn't have to and gave him a great life. You both benefited and those are great memories to retain forever.

Had a cat "Booger" that went squirrel hunting with me. Would ride out in game bag and walk back with me. She would quiver when she sense a squirrel even before i saw it. Sighting in a bolt action rifle this cat would try to work the bolt. Still remember 50 years later.

I am so sorry to hear you have lost your kitty, Hickok. When it has happened to me I always _swear_ I will never have another because it hurts so much when they leave us. And then after a while another kitten joins us... They become part of the family, no doubt and he clearly chose you rather than the other way around! A very happy cat. I am certain he had a good life with you.

I did not grow up with pets, but when I met my wife 30 years ago her cat was part of the deal. Many cats later I have loved them all. I hope that Slamfire is playing in heaven with our dearly departed cats.
