This movie has the appearance of having been written, cast, and shot all in two weeks on a budget of several thousand dollars. Post-production took another week, then it was distributed and in theaters less than a month after the first day of filming. Who knew making the Best Hockey Movie of All Time could be so fast and easy?

It's a great movie period. It is the story of how completely corrupting something may bring you very short term success, but will get you no where in the end. My dad and I had season's tickets to the old Broome County Dusters during that time, so this movie has a special place in my heart.

Being a 6th generation Floridian, I'd never heard of this movie until a couple years back when I streamed it and loved it. I now realize it's a cult legend among Yankees, but very few in the South even know it exists.

I'm 59,grew up in the 70s and still see this as an accurate portrayal of semi pro hockey as it was then. It's also the way the NHL and WHA were then. As a Canadian hockey fan I still give this film five stars. Newman was great. Michael Ontkean is a Canadian. Still a very funny,very true film.

I too grew up in the 70’s in NY/NJ area. My dad was an Ironworker & lent a bullhorn to a guy going to a Ranger game. Of course he almost got arrested & said horn confiscated. By the time I went to a Devils game the guy I went with said this was nothing I had to see the Rangers!

About the same age as you This movie reflect the spirit if a united team with guys keeping alive their hope to move to major one of rare movie that we watch at least once a year. A time when guys didn't care so much about money as long they're playing in major league played with passion and gave their body for victory Now the dollar sign.replace the heart or team logo I'm no more CH fan because head office don't care about Grey cup because. Forum is always full with high priced tickets and those buyers talk nore how much they spend that game night, than the game CH defeat. Not the same as before the new center left his soul at the old forum.. Money is ruining the game. The salary cap doesn't apply in the playoff.,last season playoff a team of around 80 plus millions vs 50 millions. I was raised watching the old 6 teams on saturday night. Spend summer in Thurso meeting Young Lafleur but being younger never hang with him he stayed the same, he stole the cup and he brought it to Thurso to have his old friends of childhood hold it in fact anyone. Ripon not far away I met Richer another who didn't change, but better talk baseball or soft was his first love etc . Our last 50 goals scorer under so much criticism from the press and network. That he went to the Devils. Lafleur was escorted by 2 security guards under instructions from Serge Savard, they humiliated Lafleur like a criminal. One of the last great even Savard telling other teams he wasn't dependable and drank too much in fact CH image take too much importance .Lafleur star statute made him no shy to criticize the team weakness and Patrick Roy did the same, fear of public reaction of management trading him.they created a situation that he asked to be traded CH full crowd Center is filled based on the legendary past history. Why is it worth of having a competitive team when you have sold out games. Bergevin long stay is a clue and usually wouldn't, last more than 2 years and less like in the past way!
Fun fact: Dr Hook is the character that inspired Wolverine from the X-Men

@@jswaggart01 - Good AM. I will not disrespect you by telling you what you're allowed to say. Nor will I be ordered around; I will not "lighten up" when it comes to bullyism. When impressionable young people see thugs being hailed as "cool" or "heroes," they, too often, practice that violent behavior on others. When did I suggest anyone was harmed during the film? Were you being bullied, physically or verbally attacked, I'd come to your defense as I would any bully victim. Peace.
@jswaggart013 жыл бұрын
@@mjcamck again, it’s a MOVIE!!! If you want to get on a high horse about bullying or violence then at least base it on the real world. Surely your energy and time could be put to better use.
@mjcamck3 жыл бұрын
@@jswaggart01 - Good AM. I'm fully aware it's a movie. When I was obtaining my Psych Masters, I concentrated on the psychology of bullies (at home, school, work, etc.) ****Numerous clinical studies showed that mass media has a heavy influence on young people, who imitate what they see portrayed as being "cool." Otherwise, once our 2 children became adults, I encouraged my husband to sell my successful business, so I could work in a preschool & have direct influence on children during their most formative years. Outside of that, I'm the volunteer moderator of a support group for the victims of bullies. ***Otherwise, these videos reach thousands of people for, virtually, no cost. I doubt you'd enjoy being bullied. If you were, I'd rise to your defense.

I still remember to this day growing up on the Iron Range of Minnesota, where two of the Hanson Brothers grew up (Virginia, MN) ( the 3rd couldn't be in the film because he was in the playoffs in the pro leagues at the time) and the theater marquis said, and I quote. "Slapshot"! Starring the Carlson Brothers...And Paul Neuman". Best thing ever.

Craig Forsberg I grew up in northern WI right on Lake Superior and played youth hockey. Went up to Two Harbors, MN for tournaments and even played some Duluth teams. Played up in Northern MI as well. Yes, we had Slap Shot on VHS and all of us kids quoted the movie all the time. “These guys are a fucking disgrace!” “OK guys...show us what you got!” “Buy you a soda after the game?” Great times!

It's funny that the Hanson Brothers were real life room mates and professional hockey players who could not act so Paul Newman let them ad lib through most of the movie. The slot care scene was really what they did in there down time. They were also all offered a 7 year multi-movie contract but they all turned it down to pursue their hockey careers.
