I’ve been a guitar player for over 30 years, inspired by many of the guitarists mentioned in this video. The description and narration on this video is so spot on, everything you described about these artists resonates in me. Great vid.

GnR went mainstream around 1987. I was 19 and thought they were the best thing since VH. You could instantly recognize Slash’s influences, he sounded nothing like his LA hair band contemporaries that were so popular at the time. IMO, Slash is the last in line of the "greats”. Randy Rhodes needs an honorable mention here as well.

I'm exactly 10 years younger and around that time at 9 or 10 years old I remember hearing GnR for the first time and it shaped my musical taste ever since. My Dad was a drummer and I'd already been raised on a diet of The Who, Led Zeppelin, Genesis and Fleetwood Mac among others but when I heard Slashes opening riff of Welcome to the Jungle, the door to my own personal musical taste was booted open. I agree that it's hard to think of any guitarist since who carried that legacy.
@SEKreiver21 күн бұрын
'Appetite' came out in LATE 1987. That was their first record (outside of 'Live Like a Suicide'). What the hell are you talking about? "Went mainstream"?
@mikeys753621 күн бұрын
@ Welcome to the jungle video got released in 87’. That’s when the band started to gain recognition nationally and internationally. I don’t know how else to describe mainstream to you but if you don’t understand, look it up killer.

How could you add two other players when it's a list of his six favourites? You'd have to take two others out to add those two, otherwise it's a list of eight 😅 I'm sure they're a load more guitarists Slash loves and respects but when you can only pick six, plenty of greats won't make the cut, doesn't mean they're not great but you can't put everyone in a list of six

It's doubtful that I'll ever be a real Guns n Roses fan. All the same, it isn't difficult for me to acknowledge what a good player Slash is. Anytime I hear him playing on a track, I can hear how all these other players have made their mark on him. It's also easy to respect the effort he has made to keep what they brought to music alive. That is something I've also been attempting to do as a musician, no matter what the scale.

Most GnR tunes were either created or structured by Izzy. The main reason GnR didn't continue to be big after the split was because Izzy was gone. Slash is a amazing guitarist. He's also a cool dude. However, GnR was mostly Izzy & Axle. But Duff can play the hell out of a guitar too. But in GnR and since then he's known for his bass playing. But he's actually a great guitar player too. My sister had Axle in her choir class at Jeff High School. She said he picked on a lot because he was so skinny.
