In this video I challenged myself to paint an ENTIRE Warhammer Army in 48 hours!
I have alot of part painted armies and made myself the challenge to paint the entire thing using my speed painting guide I previously uploaded here -
• Slap Chop DEATH GUARD!...
I also post regular updates on my Instagram and Tiktok
Check out my Instagram - / slayer_miniatures
Check out my TIKTOK - / slayerminiatures
I painted the entire army using a process of speed painting - batch painting models and focusing on the same colours on each model until they were all done. This way of painting is super efficient and quick! The entire process took me just under 48hrs! All I have left to do is to base the models to match the rest of my army!
I used a mixture of Citadel Contrast Paints to lay down some base layers of colour, over a zenithal highlight colour. I then used some Enamel Paints and Some Oils paints to weather the models and make them look grimy and more realistic - ie Grimdark.
This style is also called Blanchitsu, which is named after the legendary Warhammer Artist John Blanche. This Death Guard Paint scheme is referred to as 'The Pallid Hand'
If you like the guide then please subscribe! Its free and motivates me to make more videos.
Why not use the guide to paint your own miniatures and get rid of your own backlog/pile of shame.
In this guide I paint -
3 Plague Burst Crawlers
3 Foetid Bloat Drones
3 Blight Haulers
3 Daemon Princes
2 Plague Surgeons
a Lord of Contagion
Typhus
Noxious Blightbringer
Tallyman
Putrifier
13 Blightlord Terminators
20 Plague Marines
2 Deathshroud Terminators

"Do you think this'll motivate you to paint your own army?" Dude, I just came here as one of many examples of how to use my new streaking grime wash because I haven't used it before, and not only does this motivate me to apply this technique to my own army (Knights), it's also having me seriously considering picking up some Death Gaurd models! GW should make an enamel range and hire you lol.

Good stuff, man. It's nice to see a vaguely achievable result now and then. Watching the god-tier mini artists putting out masterpieces is fun, but, frankly, this is more inspiring as I can actually see myself doing something like this without too much of a stretch. Much appreciated.

Thanks :) some people love spending hours and hours just painting a face. I do not ha! But depending on the army I would put more time into it. This was just a challenge to myself to get motivated and the painting style fits in really well with the Death Guard. It's all about having fun so if you have fun painting...then it doesn't really matter how long it takes :)

Great job man. I've found with the AK stuff that you shouldn't wait too long to start pulling it away. It dries really fast compared to say just using oil paints thinned down. The airbrush makes it set faster as well. I've found that doing a tank 1 by one and regular models in a squad at a time. Its quicker to take the AK stuff off which saves a lot of time

Sorry for the necro, but since the AK stuff gets off with some IPA and in some other videos it seems like it can be "reactivated" with it, isnt the time the AK Grime Stuff a bit irrelevant? If its dry, the alkohol just rubs it off either way?

8:30, seems much darker, did you made 2-3 or more layers with this brown without water? Did you put the brown on this surface already haven another paint on it like a red ? I mean I seems very dark or is it just two layer of the paint witout colour as you did for the other colours ?
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 3 жыл бұрын
That flesh is literally the zenithal highlight, white - grey - black, and gulliman flesh contrast. That's it. And it's only one layer. It seems dark as the flesh wash tints the white and grey and the zenithal shows through. Which is exactly what I was going for.

Really nice tutorial. Inspiring! Been trying out the steps and although not new to the hobby, I am to oils and enamels. One thing I wonder is how you ensure the streaking grime and rust streaks isn't dissolved by the oil wash? I've had some issues with this, finding other ways and stuff trying things out, but would be nice to know how this works for you, especially on the vehicles with larger panels? Cheers.
@SlayerMiniatures

Hi Nicklas! That's for the feedback. When using this technique on smaller batches of models i ensure the grime and rust has had a chance to dry and set properly. You can either go over it with a hair dryer or leave it overnight. Then when you add the oil it won't mess up your work with the grime. Because I had large gaps in between models it gave it time to set/dry. Hope that helps :)

Fantastic work mate, this has massively influenced the way I want to paint my new DG force. Can you tell me, when you applied the Streaking Grime to the models, did you dilute it much for the airbrush, or were you able to put it straight through? The effect once you take it off with spirits is outstanding 👍
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
Hi nick! Glad you liked it. The grime is applied straight out of the pot. If you do use it in your airbrush you will need to clean it out with acetone/nail polish remover to ensure it breaks down the enamel paint. Also after doing the stage with the spirits I'd let it dry fully (maybe leave over night?) Before doing the oil wash.
@NickMorloc
@NickMorloc 2 жыл бұрын
Mate that's really helpful, thank you. Sorry for all the questions, but after doing the Streaking Grime, can you leave the army for as long as you want before applying the white spirit to remove a lot of it? Or do you have a limited window to do so before the Grime doesn't come off so nicely? Thanks again, has this army been in any battle reports online, I would love to see them in action :)

I'm slowly working towards using some oil washes and a lot of people recommend varnishing prior as you have done. Some say to use gloss however, to reduce that surface tension and allow the wash to be a bit more searching. Do you find there is much of a difference in application or end product doing this for oils? Maybe gloss if you want them to look a bit cleaner? Then again, you clean up the excess oil anyway so maybe it doesn't matter.
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 3 жыл бұрын
I dont think gloss would make any difference at all to how the oil works. The whole reason it runs into the recesses is because the spirit has a low surface tension when mixed with the oil. So the mix naturally doesn't like flat surfaces. If you find it isn't running into the recesses enough I'd just add a bit more spirit and mix it again then try it. Then as a fail safe of its on the surface at all...let the spirit evaporate from the mic and then clean it with a cotton bud/q tip afterwards. Can dip it the bud in white spirit too. It looks scary but it's super super easy I promise! Ha
@jammywesty91

I used a hair dryer to dry it off on most of the models. Before you start working on it. I'd say it's good to work on after the gloss is gone from it. Got a super grainy spray with the white though. With death guard, free texture, with another army with cleaner panels (Tau, eldar etc) that would be bad. pressure is likely too low on the airbrush. I like the consistency across this though, they turned out really nicely and I like the picture of everything together between each step (and the fact that you're neat but not overly which will help a lot of people realise they don't have to be super neat all the time as you can fix things) Oils are great. Great job on those, similar to how I did my Deathguard. May use the purple glow as that looks ace. Was it the same purple brush3d on as you airbrushed, was the airbrush step just to get over spray? Final question honest, how easy was your airbrush to clean after putting the streaking grime through it?
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 3 жыл бұрын
Ask away :) always happy to help others. Yeah purple brushed on and purple spray were the same...Genestealer Purple. The airbrush was just to get a bit of spray to add to the glow/osl effect. But you can easily avoid doing this all together or just dry brush a little instead. Streaking grime is an enamel so you can clean the brush with Acetone/nail polish remover. Same effort as cleaning away normal paint from the brush. I take the brush apart and soak the parts in in small pot of Acetone. Then spray water through it after to wash it through

If you are very rigorous with the cleaning then yes you can remove the paint underneath, that's why I use a quick layer of varnish as I don't have to be too delicate then and can relax more. You have to be quite rough with it for it to go down to the paint though. Hope that helps

This is my first time of seeing your stuff and I can't help myself. I would not call this a speed paint. The second you went to oils and streaking mediums the time line blew out and requires more care than the slap on approach of say standard GW paints or Contrast. This does not take away from the finish though. I would also note that verdigris is not found on iron or steel, nor rust on ceramics. The lore said Space Marine armour was made from Ceramite. However, these are Chaos Marines and as Lou Reed said, "The rules do not apply". Having said all that, as far as the finish is concerned, WOW! Worth the effort I think.
