I came back to this video since I found the answer. It is about anxiety but also related with sleeping cycles being disturbed, since she was pregnant, she was probably not sleeping normally or in the average hours. Think about your own situation and if you also messed with your sleeping hours maybe because of work, studies, insomnia, party, etc. Here is what I did: 1.Melatonin (Gummies): You need to SLEEP and in your hours, I know it sounds contradictory because you feel you can't, but you CAN! Trust me. Even with jerks and all, you won't die! Take Melatonin at 9 pm to induce sleepiness, don't take it too late or it won't work. 2. Wake up early and expose yourself to the sunlight: Don't oversleep, wake up at 7 or 8 am, go out and fix your biological clock by standing up BAREFOOT under the sunlight for some minutes. This will help you to teach your mind and brain that this is the time when you're supposed to be awake and that at that hour your day starts. Being barefoot will help you release stress to the ground and the sunlight also will give you Vitamin D. 3. Good habits before sleeping: No heavy food after 7 (Proteins, Lactose, Junk food), no screentime after 7 (Smartphone, Tablets, TV, etc), take a warm shower (The body needs the right temperature to rest), drink chamomile, eliminate any kind of light from outside your sleeping place (Buy dark curtains, use sleeping mask if possible). I know you want to fix this inmediately but it doesn't work like that, will take some days or weeks. I also thought this woudn't work but it did, at least for me. I know how worried and scared you might be, I was the same but you're not alone!

this is amazing and super reassuring. You definitely described the exact thing that has been happening to me for months. I am so grateful I found this video. I should have search on here first instead of googling which only made my anxiety worse. I’ve been struggling with jerks going on every night for 4 weeks now. All of a sudden out of nowhere they started happening. I would describe to friends what was happening and they’ve never heard of such a thing. It’s frightening and takes a toll on you mentally. I’ve never been so scared in my life. Until I saw this I thought maybe something neurologically was wrong with me. This video actually made me feel better. For the first time in weeks I feel somewhat hopeful

I too have been convinced that there is something seriously neurologically wrong with me. Finding this channel 2 days ago has helped me so much. Thank you for this video! You explain this so well and are relatable, and have concluded the real reason behind this which is such a relief! I often have hyping jerks and the information around is that there is a genetic predisposition. A recent shocking situation in my life caused me severe shoulder hyping jerks every night and this opened my eyes too that this is stress related. I went to a neurologist and she gave me night time magnesium and lavender tranquilant pills. It sounds great that you have this support resource in the UK, I wish we had something similar. Cherelle thank you for your video of hypinic jerks. I am currently suffering from them right now. Have been for some time now (maybe over a year). Its werid I don't actually feel them when there happening. I am a very deep sleeper. I usually don't remember anything much from my sleeps. My husband is the one who tells me that I am fidgeting or shaking a lot at night. He's been shaking me awake, hoping that I would stop. I never have any memory of them. The more days went by and the more I was hearing about my fidgeting or shaking was making me more & more anxious. These days I actually don't sleep with a peaceful mind. I am constantly worrying about whether or not I will be causing my husband grief at night or if he will be able to sleep without being woken up by me. I adore my husband and I would never want to cause him any grief. I realised after some reseach that I might have hypnic jerks. I do have a lot anxiety and stress (mainly work related, but some personal that adds on to the pile). The video has been comforting to watch. I have been feeling really alone with this issue. I will try to add some the routines that you mentioned and I hope it might be start to some change. Thanks again Cherelle Bless you

Excellent video. So glad you recovered. Exercise is HUGE! I tell my clients it’s as though some of us wake with a glass full of cortisol and adrenaline each day and our goal is to empty the glass by the end of the day. Exercise, meditation, diet, etc are very helpful. The other part is it is riding out the storm. It’s awful but we do eventually return.

@@Renzo8375867 You really have to stop posting this renzo. While the things you describe do help, this condition is so much more nuanced than you understand and everyone suffering is suffering to different degrees. Some people need medical assistance to help get past the jerks otherwise they will never sleep. If you can't sleep you can't recover. Plus time is a great healer but not if you literally get jerked awake dozens of times a night for months.

These things have been my nightmare for just over a year now. They started very suddenly and have happened almost every night since, and sometimes during the day. Its so hard to believe they are caused by stress as they have been consistent for an entire year stressed or not, but all tests clear and doctors think its mood related. I'm currently experiencing a challenging situation. Last Friday at 4 am, I endured my fourth concussion in the past 6 months, along with my ninth fall. This has had a significant impact on my life and even my relationships, as my fiancée has chosen not to sleep in the same bed as me. She even showed me videos to illustrate why. What's particularly unusual is that she, who practices qi, crystals, grounding, and sun gazing, was the first to notice and suggested that her practices could help control my jerking movements. However, these movements have become more violent and frequent, and I also seem to be sleepwalking for hours at a time, as reported by my fiancée, roommate, and others I've lived with. This includes instances of sleepeating, and I often find myself restless and unable to find the food I truly desire. This situation needs urgent attention for the sake of my well-being and the well-being of those around me. So, now I am falling! I am not tripping but believe I sleepwalking and then go back to some phase of sleep that allows the fall to begin; I do not remember anything other than falling ! I do not remember having to use bathroom, thinking of food or drink or anything. I hope you give us more and more tips on what to do to help this. My psychiatrist believes all my problems are bad sleep hygiene mixed with high levels of stress. He wants me to take a leave of absence from my job(I am a professional so this is not something where you go "need a few months away " but he feels this is life or death? Any more advice???? I am terrified.

I got rear ended while stopped at a red light 4 months ago and suffered some pretty bad whiplash, but luckily no fractures or broken bones. Unfortunately as the weeks went on the pain in my neck got worse and I started loosing sleep due to the pain and next thing I know myoclonic hypnic jerks started during sleep. These myoclonic hypic jerks are something I had real bad 25 years ago but got over it and that I completely forgot about until now. My first reaction when the jerks reappeared was "oh no, their back" 😢 The anxiety that I get when the sun goes down knowing that I'm going to have to wrestle with my own nervous system when trying to sleep is making it worse and running my. I recently had to take disability leave from work because I'm having such bad sleep problems. I'm so jealous of people who can sleep 😢 I pray to God I can get a handle on this like I did 25 years ago. I saw a neurologist who's supposedly a specialist in sleep and told him I've myoclonic hypnic jerks and didn't seem know what that was. He asked me if it was somehow related to epilepsy and I said no. Some "sleep specialist" he is. It's obviously a stress and anxiety related disorder but this neurologist is busy looking for brain tumors and things like that using MRI and EEG brainwave studies. I need someone who is going to help me with my anxiety and cost me a bunch money with fancy diagnostics. It seems the medical community at least here in the US is not knowledgeable about this condition and it results in a lot of people like us suffering tremendously. For instance, not one medical doctor has tested my cortisol and adrenlene levels. And if those levels are high have some way of getting those levels down quickly. Why is that??? Maybe they can't make enough money on something simple like that.

How are you doing now about the jerks?

A vicious cycle that is/can be very hard to break. The thing is not to become afraid of the jerks but that is easier said than done, as when you know something very unpleasant is about to happen, you really can't relax. Benzo and Zopiclone sleeping pills worked a bit for me but they're highly addictive and in the end makes the anxiety even worse. Alcohol works perfectly well for the moment but makes it worse the next day, so the root problem is the anxiety and whatever causes it.

Thanks for speaking about that. I've had that for 9 months now after a night at a disco club where I took an exctasy pill, and it's been terrible ever since because I just can't sleep: every single moment my body is relaxing and falling asleep a part of my body snaps like a spring, all night long. I'm really exhausted; the only thing that helps me sleep decently is clonazepam. The neurologist gave me a medication against nervous system inflammation but so far after a month it hasn't worked at all. I'm starting to think it'll never go away.

I’ve had myoclonic jerks since I was 12 no traumatic injuries and went undiagnosed for 10-12 years. They progressively got worse and more violent. I burned my body from hot water or coffee several times. I finally had grand mal seizures at 22 years of age (6 of them in concession) I completely lost my memory after that as I wasn’t on medication and they were uncontrolled. Jerk for a moment? The people here who are worried about this are not worried because the jerks take place for a moment and then disappear for the night. They’re scared because it’s happening throughout the night every time they try to sleep. They happen during the day when you try to take a nap. There are 60 minutes in an hour. Imagine having a jerk every 5 minutes when u try to sleep. Divide 60 by 5 and you get 12. That’s 12 jerks in just 1 hour. Now imagine if you want to get 8 hours of sleep. Multiply 12 by 8 and you get 96. That’s 96 jerks. Is that a small number? Now imagine that some of these folks are getting these jerks every day even when they don’t feel anxious or stressed and so they do not have the comfort of blaming it on anxiety. Does it still sound like it’s not such a big deal? I hope not.

Im interested to know what the Neurologist thought and if you think the anxiety is causing the nervous system to get cranked up or if they are seperate issues. I ask because quite often my jerks happen for 2-3 days after I weight train in the gym, so im trying to workout if that is triggering the jerks or if its just anxiety. Nightmare 😅

I've had these for almost 5 years and they developed suddenly after 3 months of strength training, which was the first time I every did this kind of training in my life. Now I've stopped strength training for a long time but they're still here, slowly diminishing in frequency and intensity

@@meryemmeziane4930 Hmm thats interesting, I hope yours finally dissapear soon! I'm pretty much not bothered by them anymore and I have returned to regular training. I suspect that anxierty is/was 90% of the problem for me, worrying about the effects of training just made it even worse.

@@daveclarke100 thank you so much, I hope so too 🥰 Now they're occuring by episodes of several days/weeks, but whenever they reappear I become depressed because I fear they will come back permanently and steal my life from me again (being 27, I'm supposed to be in the best years of my life and I have never basically enjoyed my life because they appeared right after intense years of studying...) And I guess this fear doesn't help. I agree that they are probably due to anxiety, or more broadly to stress, and I assume that they occurred because strength training at this intensity was too stressful for my fragile body, but I have no means of knowing if it's true, which is so frustrating !

@@meryemmeziane4930 I agree, anxiety and stress will be the main factors, they were/are for me too. I watched a really helpful video on youtube, I think by the insomnia coach, and he was talking about the fear of having them and the fear of not sleeping that night and how the jerks 'feed' off the fear you have. I followed his tips to stop being scared of them and it reallyyyy helped. You have to accept that they might happen, if they do its no big deal, when they happen, laugh them off (in your head or even verbally), welcome them almost. When i did this every night they started to happen much less often, and when they did happen, so what. Its a mental recovery process. I hope this helps, I honestly feel your struggle. Just laugh them off, the stupid jerks ;)

I know exactly what you mean. Please be aware that ( Myoclonus ) need to be taken seriously in adults , Myoclonus is a sister disease of Epilepsy, Hutchinson, and Parkinson's disease, you will even find information about your throat closing over when twitching is acquiring

It probably was just anxiety in the beginning but then you took that medication of Parkinson’s and that probably did more damaged than good that’s why I weaned myself off my medication they don’t help you in the long term because at some point they will poop out on you and that’s your ass

How are you doing now about the jerks?

True. Unless someone has actually experienced this, they will not understand what you're going through. When I try to explain it to people, their reaction seems to indicate that they don't quite get why this is stressful for me. But this is a condition that can reduce you to tears.

Thanks for this video it perfectly describes what I have. I'm getting them while typing this. It started getting worse after my doctor changed my medications for peripheral neuropathy. It's a harsh cycle to get into causing insomnia, feeling exhausted, and too much stress. I was thinking it was neurological like early ALS or parkinsons. Course, none of that helps your stress levels. At least now I can talk about it better with my doctor and get proper treatment.

Hi! My name is yangchen from India.. I didn't knew this kind of things also happen to a person... I use to have myclonic jerks since I was 14 or 15 but that didn't effect me that much coz it use to occur just 3 or 4 times a night 2 or 3 days a week... but as I grew older I had so many things up inside my head that I use to think while I was sleeping.. now I'm 36 years old and 6 days before I had fever and trust me I really thought of killing myself... it was so frustrating that I cannot sleep at all.. that feeling of falling 😭 I was desperate i even cried a lot trust me whoever have them and it's constantly like I was having it 5 to 10 sec just imagine falling every 5 to 10 sec in ur dream .. so I stayed awake all night up... I thought I will not survive that night .. next day I went to doctor and he diagnose as myoclonic jurks ... now I end up with tons of medication and also need to do EEG... anyone have the same episode comment so that we can share
