Is this just what you hear, or have you pulled these lyrics from another source? I agree with most of this, and I'm prepared to accept these lyrics as definitive, but there are a few I hear differently. For example... "Watch me clean again" sounds like "Watch me cling again." Also, "When the mark of infinity" sounds like "When the mouth of infinity," which also seems to fit the lyrics and theme better, as with the difference in the clean/cling line. Please let me know if this is incorrect.

Can we all just take a second to marvel at the level of characterization in this song? Most songs have some sort of a character, an "I" voice. Though rarely, RARELY are they as developed as this. Sleep Token manages some sort of development, change, or a flat out throat-punch in their lyrics most of the time, but it's particularly developed here. The lyrics start out with confidence. "You know I can hold my breath forever", which is a pretty unusual (but not unheard of) place for Vessel to start writing from. It strides the line between, "I'm stoically managing my troubles", and, "I'm a sociopath surviving by will alone". But as the song continues, it becomes more apparent that the speaker was really only trying to fool themself. "If I can hold myself together" proceeds the, perhaps more telling, "I choke myself on sacred vapour". Someone that, could, apparently, "hold their breath forever" when faced with high water is now unable to breathe in vapour. And, this possibly points to getting high and self-medicating at the same time. It goes from projection, this case of, the water is rising but it'll be fine. To... shit, we're drowning. And you can't keep us both alive. And, finally, the truth: I can't keep myself together. And the implied logical conclusion: So if one of us is to live, we must be apart, it must be you, and I must drown.

He took a kitchen knife to the chest. I called 911, and the doctors said if he went just a centimeter further, he would have died. He lived another 4 years before his mental health problems won. I've had so much anger he could leave, and I couldn't. There is so much anger and pain. I can't do what he did, though. You may end your own pain.. but you pass it on to everyone who loves and cares about you. Please don't ever give up. Please continue to fight. Don't carry the weight, get the help you need. I think what makes this drummer so freaking good.. is not only only fact he's crips a.f. ver modernized with the ghost note grooves that proggy/jazzy drummers do bands. ... but what makes him stand out over others is hes not entirely playing in every song. And only comes in when necessary. We don't see that alot. I was thinking about this the other day.. as a drummer myself I was like why do they hold him back. I wish he was playing basically the whole time. . .but I see now.. he there when he's needed. And that what's makes sleep token so good. So what little I do get to hear of him.. it's more intimate and pleasing to hear when he comes in. He locks in with they keys and bass so good. worship

Needless to say when my mum passed away from covid this sound made me cry like my body was weeping out everything that I couldn't say. The lyrics in this are so meaningful to me because we went through a tough life together and apart. I had so much to ask her but I never got the chance to ask her because the covid had took her voice, watching that till the end was the most awful thing I've ever been through. This loss hurt but I couldn't let it show or let it out, I had to be the strong one but this was what opened me. You don't know how much this means but thank you.

adore the outro on this song, love that it just keeps going on and on instead of just ending

This is perfect timing, found this artist when my deepest pain and emotion poured out like water, now I'm just enveloped in the depth of the waters of these songs in this album, it's so pretty, yet carries so much weight; and so much depth ❤️

that last verse is an ice pick to the heart, and the breakdown that follows is the hammer. Beautifully crafted music, I just can't get over it.

Their music just creates all the feels. With the melodic verses and hard breakdowns and it's just an amazing rollercoaster of emotions and I'm here for all of it all the time

these lyrics. wow. all i could say after the song concluded was, "there's no way in hell whoever wrote this didn't feel every. single. line. in the heaviest way." originality at its finest.
