Varmy, Run BTS included dance steps from lots of their older numbers. The headbands were because they they wore them back in 2013 when they first debuted. And they did want to let everyone know they were not your average kpop band. And Sleep, did you just tell us something we didn’t know for sure? V and Jon Batiste did have dinner after the Grammys back in ‘22 after BTS performed and Jon won tons of Grammys. It was in a Bangtan Bomb. But we never heard anything else. Can’t wait to hear those two together. Oh and Varmy, Tear was indeed sad. Suga wrote it when the group was contemplating breaking up. When he played it for them they all cried. J Hope and RM wrote their own parts of course. It’s always emotional. As always love hearing you both. Happy Holidays!

What he said was still valid though. A lot of us may have music backgrounds, but that doesn't mean that all of us were well-versed in hip-hop specifically. I grew up listening to hiphop in the 90s, but I also know that a lot of us did not. For those fans, they are introducing them to new styles and genres. Not everything has to be directed to us specifically to be a valid statement. ARMY is not a monolith which we all know.

Of course there might always be newbies which is cool too, but I’m old, have lived through the entire genre of hip hop/rap and many genres coming into the scene and BTS just does it differently snd in their own way and I love it.

The spotlight is on the Asian market, where the music scene, which is rooted in Black culture, often gets enjoyed without really understanding its cultural importance. Varnell isn’t talking to American fans or those international listeners who understand music references and its cultural backgrounds. Instead, he’s focusing on a specific group of people who might not fully grasp the rich cultural influences that BTS pulls from. It’s all about creating a connection that helps fans appreciate the deeper meanings behind the music. He’s not being vague/general; he’s getting specific. But the context is getting missed because of not knowing the whole backstory of the discussion they’ve been having throughout the series. His comment wasn’t to invalidate anybody else’s understanding of music. He’s speaking about a specific type of fan, and he’s not wrong. A lot of people in this fandom don’t really get the musical references the members drop. They’re here just for the music, not for the background info. That goes for fans across all groups. It’s usually when people start digging into the music and the journey that they begin to see the whole picture. Sure, there are fans who know a lot, but not all Amry have that knowledge. They didn’t come into this with the history and the cultural understandings. They truly walked into this fell in love and had no understanding of what they were falling in love with.

I think that a lot of people still tend to think that most of their fans are younger/haven’t been exposed to a lot of different types of music. before I became a BTS ARMY, I listened to rap by tupac, snoop dog, jcole, the song with warren g i forgot the title and the others....but not all of hip hop artists coz back int eh day...they were always on mtv esp here in the philippines. tupac was a big artist that even small areas like where i live listen to. it's the OGs...then it became myx...never listened to the new ones that pop up when myx happened. But, with bts... I appreciated rap and hiphop more because they explained what is hiphop to me as a listener. They opened my eyes to be more broadminded to music genres

He’s talking about Army, not just random fans, but he’s a bit of a newbie (baby Army), so he’ll figure it out. 2. If you’re already into hip-hop, he’s not referring to you. In the K-pop world, a lot of “fans” from places where hip-hop hasn’t really made a mark don’t know much about it. BTS is the one showing them the ropes.
