Developed by United Front Games in collaboration with Square Enix London Studios, Sleeping Dogs is a gritty and visceral openworld cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong. Taking the role of undercover cop Wei Shen, players are tasked with taking down one of the world's most fearsome criminal organisations from the inside. Offering players an island packed with action, every street corner, market stall, harbour dock or city skyscraper can become an opportunity for intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fuelled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat. Featuring one of the most intuitive and imaginative combat systems, Sleeping Dogs empowers players to perform an extensive set of martial arts moves, singlehandedly taking on numerous opponents. Players perform bone-crunching kicks and combos, vicious counters and a cinematic set of environmental takedowns making use of countless real-world items from circular saws to phone booths, incinerators to refrigerator doors.

Honestly, this game is a fresh start. In the past 5 years mostly all open world games have taken place in either New York or Los Angeles. Gta 4>NYC, Mafia 2> mixed but mostly NYC. LA Noire, The god father> NYC. As many of us can see, even dislikers, Hong Kong is a good location.

@munin01 Hey, you can't expect them to add everything. Perhaps they'll include a DLC but as a gamer from Hong Kong I don't have much of a problem with it. As for the shape of the map, they have their reasons. They did say that they're capturing the feel of Hong Kong rather than create a Google-Maps accurate replica of the city. At least they got the main districts right, and I really have to praise them for doing their research (not to mention showing their work) while making this game.

I expected a bigger map should appear in the game... at least whole Hong Kong Island...not partial. But this game is still interesting.

I'm sure he meant the games trying to recreate real life scenarios (just like the games listed up there; Mafia, GTA, La Noire...) A lot of the games you mentioned are fantasy.

That's for gaming reasons. Like in many games, you got too many russians not speaking English, And the magical universal language: Japanese in animes. It just make people to play it more comfortable and not that confused by a language they don't know. I live in HK but I still accept it. At least the Asians are modeled better here

Red dead redemption took place in the west. Saints row the third was in a made up location. Assassins creed 2 took place in italy and so did assassins creed brotherhood. And assassins creed revelations took place in constantinople. Batman arkham city took place somewhere else too. So did Skyrim.

I live in Hong Kong. I've played this a bit. I don't mind the lack of some not-so-prominent places. I don't mind the NPCs speaking English. That's a given, since you can't make things that accurate and I doubt you'd want to hire authentic Cantonese speakers to voice the NPCs. BUT. There were a lot of signs in SIMPLIFIED Chinese instead of TRADITIONAL Chinese. That's a rather big no-no. And where's the MTR?!

So they even bother to to HK themselves but then lazily fuck with the island's geography and don't even include Kowloon/New Territories? Weak.
