Hi Martina!! TMI, but I want to thank you so much for the impact you have had on my life. I have CPTSD and recently told my therapist about "Build A Ladder" which got me through some of my darkest days. You have had a lasting impact on so many people, and you continue to do so. Thank you for bringing us on these adventures, and also sharing the less than stellar days with us as well. Build A Ladder has helped me remember to be kind to and care for myself even when depression and anxiety are telling me otherwise. Showing myself love has helped me recover from what had become a debilitating mental health struggle. Thank you Martina!!

Hey! I have complex trauma 🙃 build a ladder definitely helps. It also actually links to psychology/science, the polyvagal ladder is a way of imagining our nervous system as a ladder, with ventral vagal at the top, sympathetic in the middle, and dorsal vagal at the bottom.

I’m happy to point it out! I think people who don’t have to use mobility aids, or don’t have painful body parts take these types of things for granted. I don’t think it comes from a bad place; it’s just hard to know what you should appreciate if you’ve never lost it or been challenged.

If you look up a caramel slice you should find an easy enough recipe. Otherwise, shortbread base, caramel centre (a dulce de leche style cooked caramel is delicious), chocolate layer on top (if it cracks even better), then a sprinkle of flaky salt (but fancier than standard Aus bakery). Damn now I want some

I had one of these days recently and oh my! I had been housebound for years and last year i got an electric scooter. Life. Changing. doesn't even begin to describe what it was like to have independence again. Then, winter came and i was so surprised how hard it hit me. I'd suffered being housebound for over a decade and i can't get through one winter??? But oh oh oh the other day, after weeks of pain and migraines, i was just barely able to drag myself out into the glorious warm and sun and independence, it was picture perfection. The little squirrels i feed at the park remembered me and my girlsquirl came and ate from my fingers without hesitation ... and then i rode down my gorgeous block, someone smiled at me as i passed and i just started sobbing on my scooter with ridiculous joy lol. I sometimes wonder if people who don't suffer with chronic illness/pain know this kind of elation.

Loved this video, got such good vibes from it, so comforting. Idk if anyone else mentioned it (probably yes) but the word pukka has an interesting history. From what I know its military slang, and actually is a Hindi loan word. I think pukka in Hindi means "proper", "por real": Like, a paved road is a "pukka road", or a solid house is a "pukka house"; (please correct me if I'm wrong). There's actually many loan words from hindi in the English language, it's fascinating.

How in the heck did you ever find Punk Doily (yeah, apparently it's Doily, not Dolly)? I checked out the Google reviews for it, and it has 163 reviews with an average score of 5.0 -- in my entire internet life, I have NEVER seen any shop or restaurant with that many reviews and an average of 5.0. Absolutely mindblowing! Certainly not the most readily accessible spot from Kichijoji, but you know what? One of these weekends, I am absolutely THERE. That looks way too good to pass up! EDIT: As does Chelas. Man, Oyamadai seems like a real hidden gem of a place! I will definitely need to add that to my weekend itinerary sometime soon. Thanks for the awesome video, and so glad you're feeling better now!

Oyamadai ROCKS 🪨 I hope you visit. 1) check out the taiyaki shop next to the train tracks. He makes custard and chocolate custard (on top of the usual) and they are MIND BLOWNING GOOD. 2) KALM (a coffee shop and it is so quiet and amazing.) try the hand drip and the carrot cake. And go upstairs ☀️ 3) there are 5 ramen shops on the street, all good for different reasons. Great after a night of drinking 😉 That’s just the icing on the cake, this is a great area. I find these kind of spots because I scroll through Google maps on days that I can’t leave the house. It makes me feel like I’m exploring the side streets, and I save locations that seem interesting. After I read reviews, organize them on Google Maps into categories, and then I visit them on days I’m feeling good.

@@KingKogi I do that too, but usually, the places I find wind up being disappointing. Unless all I'm looking for is a park that's fun to explore -- I can find those, no problem! Tokyo's practically littered with 'em. Good restaurants and cafes and such, though, I seem to have... whatever the opposite of a knack is, for picking them. Heheh. Glad you're here to fill in for that deficiency, though! Makes things a lot more fun, that's for sure. ;) I don't think I'll be able to hit up Oyamadai for a while, but I'll bear all of this in mind when I do! Thanks for the tips! In return, all I can really offer is pizza advice, but I will say, the two best pizza places I've found in Japan so far are both right near Mitaka Station, and they're both really cool for different reasons. Pizza-ism serves American pizza by the slice, and is run by one single dude who's really passionate about pizza -- he studied pizza-making in New York, speaks pretty fluent English, and loves experimenting with new flavor combinations, offering a new creation of his on the menu every month. My favorite of his so far was probably October's, which was pumpkin pepperoni pizza with cardamom, though last month's pork and beans pizza was also pretty amazing, and there was a Sloppy Joe pizza in there somewhere too that was pretty outstanding. Basically, everything he serves up is incredible, and I can't recommend the place highly enough. The other place I recommend is... I think just called Musashino Campus? But I know it better by my nickname for it: Production I.Gzza. Because it's literally a pizza parlor on the first floor of anime studio Production I.G's head office. There are two rooms within the pizza parlor filled with doodles and messages on the wall from various voice talents, producers, directors, etc. involved with various entertainment projects, so that alone makes it kind of a neat place to check out -- but the pizza is also shockingly some of the best around. It doesn't LOOK it when it's first served, though, as it's extremely WET pizza -- an absolute mess to eat, and just looks really greasy and feels completely saturated and kind of gross to hold in your hand. But then you realize, that's not grease -- it's, like, curry oil, I think? The pizzas are literally dripping with curry oil, and the flavor of it infuses every last pore of the glutinous crust. It's REALLY GOOD. You will need to wash your hands after you're done, but the flavor definitely sticks with you! So, yeah. Good places to check out, if you're ever in the mood for some pizza! One New York, one Neapolitan. Both pizzalicious! Not much of an equivalent exchange for your info on an entire shopping arcade I didn't know existed -- but hey, I'd feel bad taking that penny without leaving one of my own, you know? ;)

Oyamadai is definitely a nice spot to spend an afternoon. If you are into coffee, Alpha Beta Coffee Roasters is like 2 minutes walk east of Oyamadai Station. That's also worth a stop for a pick-me-up beverage.

This came at the perfect time 💜 I'm in the process of getting a diagnosis for EDS/HSD myself, and the pain has been so difficult to handle, day after day. But I always remember you, and your advice, and how vibrant your life is, and I start to feel better. This video really gave me a little extra hope for my future, and my present 💜 And now I really want a pie 😸 I live in Aus, but the nearest pieface is so far away 😿 booooo

A friend of mine lived in Oyamadai when she came to Tokyo. I've been there only once as I lived in Yanaka at the time. I love these quieter neighbourhoods over busy downtown areas anytime. Great to see another king Kogi quest :)

I love the vibe in that Taco place. I visited Japan a while ago and the one thing I remember is how quiet the restaurants are. This sounds more like my joint. The Tacos look amazing as well.

I loved the pies! They looked so delicious. Thank you, Martina for your videos. I've been watching for years, usually with my dog, Princess Kashmir, at my side. She just crossed the rainbow bridge last month and while it's been very rough without her. My partner and I have been trying to do small adventures to keep ourselves moving forward and basking in the sun whenever we can in her memory. Your videos are like a warm hug and they always bring a smile! Also, matching the bathroom decor was adorbs! I would've 100% took pics in the bathroom too!

Martina, I’ve watched your videos (in every iteration) since my kpop-obsessed middle school days, which was a long time ago now lol! 😅 You were my inspiration for wanting to teach English abroad and you continue to inspire me to explore the world around me and persevere no matter what! I love your videos and I’m about to move to Japan this summer, where I will explore on my own in the ways you have in your videos! I can’t wait to see what I find on my own adventures! Thank you for continuing to create, inspire, and for being you! ❤
