*Update Notice* The list of issues that UVTools detects with a model is no longer automatically displayed. To see the list of islands and resin traps you'll need to select the "Issues" button. This is the button with the Biohazard Symbol at the top left of the screen.

Nice guide! The reason you don't spot the islands on the same layer is because uvtools start counting at layer 0 and lychee at one, so layer 116 in uvtools is 117 in lychee.

First of all, thank you for the video! It's very detailed and it helped me a lot during my prints. I have a couple of questions tho. For example, I slice the model in my slicer (chitubox) and then open it in UvTools and hunt for islands. So, in one window I will have UVTools oppened and Chitubox in another, going after the layers. When you mention to repair the files. I save the sliced model again and press Ctrl+F5 to reload the STL in UVTools. Press repair and save. That model, will not be able to be oppened in Chitubox, right? So In order to print it I will need to use the USB stick. Right? What do you think about making a video of the complete proccess? Like, get the model, slice, fix islands, repair, print and paint? It would be awesome.

The apparent difference in layer number for island ID between UVTools and Lychee is because UVTools starts it's layer count at zero whereas Lychee starts at 1. Therefore layer 116 in UVTools is layer 117 in Lychee exactly as you eventually discovered. So add one to the UVT number and go straight there. Anyway nice video. Cheers.

It's worth mentioning that in your video your file opens with the 'issues' tab open, which isn't the default. So if someone is struggling to find the islands list, click on the second symbol in the top left. Also, saving the UVtools processed file meant I could no longer open it up in Chitubox to add the supports

That's a super important call out. Thanks for that! This video is a few years old. At the time the default for UVTools was to open into the issues tab. However, that's changed with newer versions.

@@whatsagrinder yeah it seems like a no brainer. My guess is that some companies have approached the creator but they've turned them down. They want to program to remain free and totally accessible to everyone. I'll ask the creator next time I reach out to them. I do know that you can integrate UVTools with Lychee slicer but I've not tested that process yet.

Thanks a lot for this. I imagine that when you decide to remove islands based on a pixel count (here: "remove islands that are 2 pixels or smaller"), this heavily depends on the size of these pixels, doesn't it? Because a high-definition screen with 18µm pixel is not at all the same that a screen that has 50µm pixels.

Instead of manually looking through 1000s of layers could I use the repair layers and issues button and get a similar results as looking for the islands individually?
@SlicePrintRoleplay Жыл бұрын
The way this software fixes islands is by either attaching island pixels to ones near by or by removing them. So if you have an island made of multiple layers that doesn't have supports near it, then you may run into issues repairing those types of island automatically. But you can certainly try it!
@Crusader158 Жыл бұрын
@@SlicePrintRoleplay thanks again for the response so quick. I actually ran through up to about 250 layers manually and then just hit the button. Its printing right now and will let you know how it turns out. Have you determined a minimum pixel count you will even bother with? I’ve noticed those around even 10 or so are kind of a pain to add supports sometimes and I just skip them.

@@Crusader158 you are very welcome. I try to respond to all the comments on my videos. Yes please let me know how it that print turns out. As far minimum pixel size, that's totally up to you. @@SlicePrintRoleplay I may give it a try. I think those little floaters that we can’t see on n the slicer has definitely ruined a few prints as far as quality. I kept having some odd spots on some prints show up where extra resin bonded. I’m guessing this was the culprit

So UVtools requires a slicer to make the repairs?
@SlicePrintRoleplay Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking if UVTools can repair sliced files that have islands? The answer is, yes. UVTools takes a sliced file and can edit, repair, and change it in a number of ways. However, it can only use sliced files. You can't makes those some changes to a base STL file. But I don't know why you'd want to. Let me know if that answers your question.

What happenes if you push the repair button in uv tools? Does it not automatically add supports? Have you tested how they print when fix in uv tools?
@SlicePrintRoleplay2 жыл бұрын
So at the 2:50 mark I explain the different settings you can adjust that will determine how UVTools repairs the issues it's identified. Once you hit the repair button UV Tools will repair the model in accordance with those settings and how you've adjusted them. I've had great results when having UVTools repair islands using the process I go over in the video.
@sn4k3PT2 жыл бұрын
Repair islands will not auto add supports, it will attempt to merge with nearby blobs given your settings, it will only work with nearby stuff, far islands it will not touch it and require manual intervention

I've not encountered or heard of this issue until today. You are the second person to have this issue. I would take a screenshot of what you're seeing and post it in the UVTools Facebook group. Are you using the same or similar settings to the defaults in UVTools? It's possible there is an issue, but it's more likely that the preview in your slicer isn't displaying correctly. I'd try a print like that as a test and see what the results are.
