What some people don't realize is that inline skating is I would say the best form of non impact (once mastered) form of cardiovascular exercise there is. Because it is a hybrid of running, skiing and ice skating, engaging most of the major core and spinal muscle groups as well as improving general balance.... without the impact running makes on the knees. I can skate 10 miles without any aching, impact etc, I also know what running 70 miles feels like and can assure you that inline skating is much less damaging to the knees medium to long term. The faster you go the better the cardiovascular effect....but stopping really well is an art in itself....

Depending on what you do in inline skates impact on knees can be pretty big, in fact running in my experience is lesser on knees that is if you do it properly. A lot of inline skate tricks put stress on knees in very awkward positions - take magic slide for instance where you put most of your weight on back foot that points outward thus knee is taking a really uncomfortable beating. A lot of running knee problems comes from bad running form and/or shoes. Just look at Kipchoge - dude runs marathons daily at pace that majority of people wouldn't keep up for single kilometer - if running was bad for knees then he should had by all the distance he ran ruined his knees by this time. But anyways knee problems mostly suffer people who don't regularly exercise, and don't do stretching - t heir muscles are weak and shortened with lack of range and this then cascades into joint problems. Those who exercise regularly regardless of sport rarely suffer knee problems. Knees are very robust joint and can take a lot of beating.

Yep u guess it black folks in skating rinks in Detroit and LA go lookup KZbin skaters sliding in Detroit the call it open house and slide in LA theres various styles of wheels designated for this in which these competitors dont have they stop so quick

@@diminished2nd keep practicing. it took me months to get my first powerslide. man i suk at slide so much that even t/L brake(technique wise it's a slide) took me months. i started skating thinking i will only do slalom but now 2 yrs into skating, im doing slides and starting aggro. i still suk at slide, i can do powerslide, soul(60%), acid, acid toe, cross acid, wheel barrow. now learning cross acid toe, backslide, ufo, unity, magic. ganbatte u can do it!

i know understand why people who doesn't know the sport would come here and comment to devalue all the efforts and hard work, what did they search to arrive here? "slide women"? sliding a woman? i don't know... anyway, for those who don't know already, sliding is part of slalom inline skating, and it takes looooooooooong to practise and learn, it's actually quite fun to do so. give it a try! :D

Yes I agree with you. It is a hard thing to learn and there are many many tricks possible in inline slides. For some reason people are not able to understand the complexity of techniques involved in slides. There are many skaters who are good with Slalom on cones but I guess slides are less popular and that's the reason people in these comments think that its not a big deal.

i haven't broke an ankle yet, did fell a bit when learning stuff of coarse on a controlled environment not on the city streets, but hey because i learned this i can stop anytime i want no matter what my speed is or situation i am in and i haven't been into any accidents, if you don't like the sport don't and don't want to do it , don't dish on it , it takes a whole lot of discipline and dedication to do this stuff, people who sits in front of the computer whole day won't comprehend this kind of sports or any sports at all
