Im unsure if im going with this type of small imprint cart for my miter or with the big stationary one, that then doubles as storage unit. But never the less i have bought you plans to at least support you great work. Even if it ends up with a stationary big unit for me, the caster system you use everywhere i really need to learn now to do, that i can use in a lot of situations. Please keep up the good work.

Carl Holmgren. Impressive design in many ways. Your videos are a delight to watch, besides being very instructional and inspiring. I noticed that you demonstrate this stand with what it seems a 10" miter compound saw (?) Now my question is, do you have a version that will accommodate a Dewalt DWS709, which is a 12"? And another question, do you have a digital version of your plans? I don't live in the USA, and to get the print version could be complicated. I do my payments through PayPal, for just in case though.

you mentioned that it was made from a 5 x 5 sheet of plywood i haven't seen that dimension of wood at the box stores how would i go about finding a sheet as i really like this miter saw stand out of the many I've seen so far on you tube
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking8 жыл бұрын
+John Leiker Thx for Kudos. Local big box stores (e.g. Lowes, Home Depot) do not carry Baltic Birch Plywood. I buy it from Windsor Plywood but it appears they only have stores in Washington State, Montana and Canada. I've also bought it from a local hardwood retailer, Black Forest Wood Products. Phone calls to a knowledgeable person at a plywood retailer should help you find a source. Some thicknesses (e.g. 18 mm) have been in short supply this past year and prices reflect this.

Looks like a great design! In your use, how well does the dust collection work?
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking3 жыл бұрын
Matt, The system works very well to vacuum sawdust that the saw blade throws into the rubber funnel on the miter saw to which the 2 inch hose is connected. Roughly 80% of the sawdust goes into the 2 inch hose. The plenum system connected to the 4 inch hose intended to vacuum airborne dust works well but is not 100% effective. It substantailly reduces airborne dust but leaves some sawdust piled up in nooks and crannies. Thanks for the question and thanks for looking at my video. ////Carl

Question re: the jackknifed braces. You demonstrated that they can hold a tremendous weight. But what if you were to accidentally bump a brace while it was loaded? They fold so easily when not loaded - how securely do they hold with some weight on them?
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking6 жыл бұрын
Brian D, You're right, if the braces were bumped while supporting a load the wings would collapse. Actually the braces over-center slightly when lowered; I've never had one collapse while in use. ///Carl

I love this station! Great design. I built a mobile station for myself a few weeks ago but I'm not really satisfied with the swinging wing style supports for the folding shelves. Very good stand Carl. Will buy your plan. Would there be many complications building it taller? " " " " " Using metric ? Or stick to imperial?
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking8 жыл бұрын
+Bruce Lee Than you very much for buying my plan. There would be few complications to making it taller. Add to the vertical dimensions for sides, back, tip-out bin and door. Baltic birch plywood is available only in metric thicknesses; 3 mm, 6 mm, 9, 12, 15, 18 & 25mm. I thin t might be easier to build with metric dimensions. ////////Carl
@strikevyyper8 жыл бұрын
Great workmanship...just wanted to know how you determined the pivot points for your jack knife hinge system?
@CarlHolmgrenwoodworking8 жыл бұрын
+strike vyyper Pythagoras' Theorem (A squared + B squared = C squared) For a right angled triangle: Side A squared + Side B squared = Hypotenuse squared where side A and side B are joined by a right angle. With the wing raised, the brace represents the hypotenuse, the cabinet side A and the wing Side B, The brace is 36" center to center (two 18" links c.to c.). 36" squared = 1296, divide by 2 = 648. square root of 648 is 25 1/2" ). With all that said, the pivot point for the brace under the wing should be 25 1/2" from the wing hinge rod; the pivot point for the brace on the side of the cabinet should be 25 1/2" down from the wing hinge rod.
@strikevyyper8 жыл бұрын
hey Carl, Thanks for the reply....I done that. So i'm taking that when you put the center pivot on your hypotenuse, you divided the length into 2 equal lengths? Mine binds when it gets 3/4 of the way closed. Mine also connects almost to the end of the wing also and at the bottom of the cabinet, so i'm a little longer than yours.
@strikevyyper8 жыл бұрын
ok, didn't see all your reply...i understand now, thanks for your help.
