Excellent lesson. If you find that thumb over the low E string a struggle you can tune done the low E to F and play it as an open string, though remember to drop the G chord to the 2nd fret.

The tab is totally worth the $5! The one thing I did differently is tune down a half step to get the same sound as the original recording. Take the time to master the intro to the first transition and you'll be in a good position to master the rest of the song.

the half step down is definitely worth it

Great lesson Daniel. I’ve been practicing this piece for the last 2 months and I still couldn’t perfect it. It definitely sounds easy but hard to master, which is one of the amazing things about Fahey. Thank you for the lesson and insight. If you could do a tutorial on Buck dancers choice (John Fahey version) it would be amazing. Already liked and subbed. Keep up the great work!

thanks for the encouragement! I'll look up Buck Dancers Choice, Fahey was a hero

Daniel - Great video which I stumbled upon searching for thumb practicing cases. It took me a bit, on and off, I haven't fully mastered it to play in one piece yet, but I got all the parts now. What helped me most was playing along, beacause there is a huge potential of getting the timing wrong at many instances. The most tricky part for me was the C chord after the F in the middle of the A part. Thanks for a great lesson and for making me aware of this beautiful and decisively innocent sounding little piece of music!
@danielsherrill3 жыл бұрын
alot harder than it appears, especially to play the whole thing through without stumbling

@@danielsherrill very true. I can play it now. It still requires strict focus and I must watch out to not become sloppy. I cannot play it quite as syncopated as the original. Thanks again.

Great lesson Daniel, that's a great song and you delivered it really well! Only thing I could fault you on is your pronunciation of Sligo (Sly-go) and Fahey (Fah-he), but Irish names are hard to pronounce and the quality of the lesson was great so we'll forget all about it 😉
