After missing the Rockies, I was so happy to find a mountain trail in the Maritimes. Mount Carleton is a Canadian Park and Campground in the Northern part of New Brunswick.

I don’t know what’s more disturbing, the graffiti, or the fact that someone would carry a can of spray paint that far with intention of using it for graffiti.

Sad statements on the average human. Tossing trash and scrawling garbage on everything it sees. Somehow their parents failed to instill leave no trace in their little minds. Such a shame. But of course they know everything so you cannot tell them anything.

Thanks, Slim. That pile of rocks they call a trail reminds me of some of the summit hikes to some of the peaks in California's High Sierra mountains. Ankle breakers; to be traversed with care., unfit for horses or mules.

Thank you Slim, you never disappoint. Another wonderful video and commentary. I will never understand how people can be nature loving enough to hike a mountain trail, but leave their litter in the very idyllic place they just passed through. Shame on Humans. Stay safe and take care, my friend.

Yes l agree but let me share a bite of history to show a little about the eternal human nature as it applies to graffiti. Friends of mine had discovered two 18th or early 19th century Quaker mtg house pews discovered in an old barn on their property that they asked me to restore. During my work, a labor of love, l discovered three carvings on the back side of one obviously made my a younger Quaker with his pen knife. Quaker mtgs are typically silent spiritual experiences unless someone rises to share some inspiration provided to him or her by the Holy Spirit. Many sessions are completely silent so what's a fididity young man to do. His inspiration was to leace a record of his attendance 200 yrs ago. I had to restore some rotten sections on the end pieces that made contact with the ground using new lumber so the colors mismatched. I decided to paint them using red milk paint l used in finishing Windsor chairs l made. When l arrived to paint in the area of the historical 'graffiti' l decided to paint around creating a box or frame to highlight the old defacings so they'd be noticed by them and their modern friends. I left the area he carved on with its original patina. I can't remember what was carved now as it's been more than a decade since restoring them but we leave little snippets of ourselves like this as a time capsule that like Kilroy, 'we were there!' 🤗

We camped there in ~1990. I see the forests around the park have grown back as when we were there the park was a square of green surrounded by a sea of clearcuts. This was one stop on our way toward Newfoundland, perhaps one of the best trips I've ever taken. Atlantic Canada rocks.

Here's where the geologist in me pops out. The reason that the Appalachians are much lower than the Rockies is that they are so much older . the Appalachians formed almost 500 million years ago, while the Rockies are only about 70 million years old . The Appalachians are worn down to the core material of the range, while the Rockies are relatively young whipper-snappers as mountains go.

Yeah, Eastern trails seem pretty crude after years of hiking in the Rockies. The trail crews don't seem to take as much pride as they do out West. All those ankle biters would have been carefully pry-barred up and to the side, or used to make "water bars"!
