@@ja10ni I have had audi Q7 2015 for five years. I loved it and it feel like a cloud. Well thought engineering marvel, better than BMW and Merc.

Good test. Unfortunately today's AWD systems are all about electronic (especially wheel brake and center clutch enganging). No more LSD' or even locking diffs we can discuss about...

With that front left wheel free Audi has exactly the same impression like Highlander from two videos ago. The wheel wants to go, but electric brain doesn't let it in Auto mode.

Times have changed. German brands don't have a monopoly on great engineering. It's all about luxury and brand prestige than true practicality. All-wheel drive systems comparison shows this.

Nice tests - only concern is about, that looks like the cars after some spins on rolls starts to slide them off and grab sides. That gives them partially traction on rolls.

A może wrzucicie kiedyś jakieś testy FWD albo RWD? Niektóre samochody z takim napędem również mają LSD albo Torsena fabrycznie. Zabawa z dwoma rolkami też może być ciekawa.

FWD lub RWD można testować tylko na jednej rolce i kilka takich samochodów było w naszych testach, głównie tych, które miały różne tryby pracy układu kontroli trakcji.

Test znowu bardzo ciekawy, bo są porównywane auta z zupełnie innej półki cenowej a radzą sobie bardzo podobnie. Jestem ciekaw jakby spisał się napęd w Infiniti QX70 lub innym. Myślę że dobrym porównaniem byłoby np Porsche 911 vs Nissan GT-R lub inne samochody podobnej klasy ale wiem że o takie auta ciężko. Oczywiście mówię o Porsche 4s lub innym z napędem 4x4. Jeśli byliby Państwo zainteresowani mógłbym pomóc w zdobyciu do testów Infiniti z napędami 4x4. Pozdrawiam :)

Both systems are useable, but in the subaru is more harshness in the reaction of the EDL. The Audi does this more quietly, more perfectly with less excitement. The philosophy of Audi. :-)

Many cars (incl. Subaru) do that "more guietly, more perfectly with less excitement", nothing unusual. The only problem is that this quiet and perfection is too slow for many situations.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Maybe, but the fast reaction is often too fast for situation in mud/snow or wet sand. In this situation it is extremely important that the tread pattern is cleared of mud/snow. Otherwise no power can be transmitted and the car will slip sideways. Only on ground with more grip (asphalt, gravel road) it can be a small advantage, but here is the Torsen Quattro better in reaction front to rear with 0 ms reaction time. Here a test video under real conditions: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWHadYmbabKjptE The Volvo or BMW doesn't look so good - the Range Rover as an offroad car make it perfect, the Q8 as NON offroad car is also perfect. Facts that cannot be argued away. :-)

@Kick Nave That is why you have modes like Snow/Mud in newest Subaru, Jeep, Suzuki etc. You can choose smooth or rapid reaction, including a lot of slippage - whatever you need. You also cannot say "Bmw", "Volvo", you must look at models. Q8 indeed did great on that hill (its reaction was fast and strong, not smooth!) but Q5 - on the same hill almost failed. While X3 with instant reaction system had absolutely no problems. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn2QfJRrl7CGrMk Facts cannot be argued away... By the way - do you think that company like Subaru, which introduced 4WD systems to WRC and which started to use 4WD systems in their production cars years before Audi may not know how to properly tune these systems? ;)

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Yes, the rally experience of Subaru is well known. But so is Audi's, they learned quickly in the 80s and technically took a different approach. As you can still see today: with success. Yes, the Q5 in the other video is with Quattro Ultra and failed - it would have been interesting to see how he would have done with Torsen-Quattro System. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the Torsten Quattro is the panacea. It's only half the battle, the other half provides the electronics/the programming. Both in combination result in a usable drive. However, the Torsen Quattro has a unique selling point: zero seconds reaction time in the distribution of power between the front and rear axle. Subaru is great, but I like the Quattro much better in terms of behaviour. The Q8 still reacts calmly, simply sovereign. This is the very high school in the cooperation between mechanics, weight, tires, suspension and programming of the AWD system. The X6 or X5 doesn't look very good against the Q8/Q7), xDrive has no off-road competence - but 100% more then Volvo... ;-)

@@KCKNV To be honest I don't understand why Ultra failed - there should be no reaction time cause in Offroad mode front and rear axles should be locked together, especially at such a low speed. That's a question to Audi. Q8 didn't react calmly - wheels in the air were immediately stopped and then jerking many times, very similar to Subaru reaction.

Both have CVT so both have the same awd system.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers the difference is that diesel versions have a high torque CVT, that allows a more agressive braking of the non-traction wheels, compared to the 2.5 petrol.

@@augelson1478 Tak sądze. Diesel już przy niskich obrotach ma spory moment, więc interwencja hamulców jest silniejsza. Benzyna wymaga wkręcenia na obroty, aby zwiększyć moment i reakcję hamulców.

@ Piotr Sulej In all modern cars the driver can only DEMAND for throttle, even when you floor it... then the electronic DECIDES about it (and often cuts it in this situation). The time of cars for real men are gone; ok there a few exeptions ;)

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers another hint - the rollers are different! even the color!:)))))) "Off-road" mode on the Audi with long-stretching front overhang and low jaw spoiler and 20" (or bigger) rims with insulating tape-like thin road tires is a quite thick trolling:))) And more seriously, the diesel Subaru did not require the X-mode on on three rollers and rear wheel on the ground - one might wonder why. Because of the higher torque at lower revs?

@@bakhtiyarpakhirdinov2461 Yes, you are right, I forgot about the color of rollers - that completely changes the result ;) When it comes to Outback diesel - I think that's the case. More torque = more power to the back and more brake intervention, so diesel already reacts at low rpm. Petrol needs vdc off to reach higher rpm where it creates more torque.

This test is carried out by - apparently, someone has a bias towards Audi or perhaps paid by Subaru. I have had owned Q7 and for sure say that Subaru may have some advantage, in traction control but Audi Q7 engineers have put together a well-thought design with luxury in mind, Subaru is not a luxury vehicle. Before I bought Audi Q7 2015, I did take the test drive of Outback but did not find it good enough for me in terms of what I was looking for.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Yes, I did completely watched the video. You have tested AWD systems, just one part of it. The conditions that has been used to test, 98% people will not need it. However, I live in Canada and -35C is very common. Audi engineers are so smart that even they are not providing a block heater to keep engine warm overnight where as Subaru will not even start in the morning without a block heater. Forget about a traction control. My point is the video is leaving perception that Subaru is better than Audi. which is a very wrong assumption. They both have merits and demerits.
