This test is incorrect. The TDI diesel engine delivers higher torque at low rpm than does the TFSI gas engine. You should compare vehicles with the same engine and with the same tires inflated the same.

Max torque doesn't matter cause it is not used in the test, this is not tug of war. Tyres also doesn't matter cause cars are not missing grip. Air pressure is appropriate for each car.

really appreciate all the work you’re doing - fantastic no-BS videos on how the various AWD systems work in real life extremes. it would be very interesting (and a little bit more useful) to see a comparison between the SAME GENERATION Q5 ultra vs. crown gear center diff models, as this video can’t quite compare the efficacy of ultra vs. torsen/crown-gear, because of the 1,5 generation gap between the ESP systems heavily influences the outcome. we don’t know if the differences we see are due to the different AWD systems or the more advanced ESP. this is not to say that this is a bad video, just a friendly suggestion on how to further improve the comparison. and i also know the logistics of making it happen are not easy..

Thanks. And that's correct, it is not direct comparison due to generations. I am not sure if any new Q5 is available with torsen (crown gear diff is not in use any more), I have to check that but even if it is - it will be hard to find a volunteer...

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers I’m not sure about the Polish market, but for the German, there’s definitely 2 models with 500+ Nm in production: the normal V6 diesel and the SQ5 V6 TDI (there was/is briefly an SQ5 V6 TSI for certain markets in the current Q5 generation). getting any if those for a test is another issue, I’m sure. hope you can manage 😊

Ultra is the best solution for an everyday car for many reasons. And you do not have to worry in winter as well.

Having driven MY22 Q5 with 2.0 TFSI quattro Ultra, the car felt perfectly planted even in very wet conditions. I thought Ultra was a downgrade until I've driven it, and honestly 99% of the time you'll barely notice any difference to quattro Torsen. Of course in performance driving you may notice it, but that's why SQ5 and other S & RS products use Torsen instead of Ultra.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Torsen probably wins in predictability - because it is "always on", Torsen engages after a little wheelspin as shown in your tests, and it will do that time after time. Ultra is an active system and requires the computer to "tell" the coupling to engage, even if it does take a fraction of a second. This is likely why Ultra is reserved for Audi's regular A# & Q# models, while the more sportier/powerful S# and RS# cars all continue to use Torsen.

@@Trades46 Just to be precise - torsen doesn't need any wheelspin, it's always engaged on the same level. What we see in the tests is EDL intervention.

There is no such comparison (experiment). The cars are not on the same footing. The grip abilities of the tires differ, one on asphalt (one wheel of the vehicle is on patched asphalt) and the other on hard paving stone. Are the rim and tire sizes of the cars the same as the factory standards? Is the air temperature suitable for the test? One vehicle is tested each time only in automatic mode and ESP is off, and the other is tested in both automatic and offroad modes. There are many technical works like these that are done incorrectly, incompletely and incorrectly. It was made just for the neighbors to see while shopping.

Do you see any lack of grip? If tires with grip do not slip then it doesn't matter what surface is underneath. Wheels are original for each car. Air pressure - correct for each car. Air temperature suitable for the test? What temperature would be not suitable for the test? Offroad mode - white Q5 doesn't have it. The only missing thing for white one is ESP off in each attempt. We didn't do it as it had no problems with passing the tests.

wow 2021 one smashed! is that like an extra sports awd or standart awd for all q5? Are all awd from new audis like this too?

That's standard quattro ultra system, majority of modern Audi cars use this system.

all 4-cylinder, longitudinally mounted use quattro ultra - the system has a 500 Nm limit. 6+ cylinder models use a torsen-derivative system - not actually torsen anymore, but one with a crown gear central differential that is fully mechanical (so not a clutch-type), just like the old torsens.

Nope. Cupra uses haldex while Q5 has quattro ultra. The difference is explained in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmLFlJqcir-WqJo

Doesn't it make a difference that the surface is different in the two tests? Obviously, the surface of the Q5 I test has more friction.

As long as tyres on pavement do not slip - it doesn't matter.

Quattro it's not the system, it's just a marketing name and older "Quattro" doesn't perfoms better than present ones.

Quattro Ultra is a haldex upgraded system. Torsen is the best for me :)

Watch the wheelspin in the first test, that's the biggest difference which results in very different behaviour of systems in dynamic conditions.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Well... In each case one system requires marginally more wheel spin than the other. Both get out of the situations very easily❕ Except for last test. So in your opinion it _proves_ which one is better?

@@CieplinskiPawel Nope, there's no better or worse here. They are different. And the main difference is that quattro ultra FWD based, electronically controlled on demand system, shifting power from front to back while torsen is basically permanent, mechanical system, slightly rwd biased.

@@CieplinskiPawel Video doesn't have to prove that one is better then the other. It can prove that both are the same. But roller test is just a small part of entire ability of awd system, it cannot be treated as an oracle.
