The extremely rear biased nature of the BMW is very apparent, seemingly running on a completely open centre diff. The Subaru's AWD system is much more symmetrical. Both would seriously benefit from effective LSD on both front and rear axles.

Аз карам В12 2.0 автоматик и отделно Трибека, в леки препятствия дори и В12-ката се представя добрe, но съм и с нови зимни гуми на нея. Трибеката е с някакви всесезонни и честно казано не ми вдъхва доверие нито на сняг, нито на сух асфалтов път. Дори веднъж в пресен пухкав сняг на трибеката започна да и свети VDC-то и да ми реже газта, докато легасито си мина без проблеми

So, Legacy has some sort of central LSD but lacks the front and rear lim. slip diffs....a bit disappointing. How about a material about some AWD systems used by different brands with the differences between models and years within one brand...and how to recognise the differences.

This Legacy has clutch-pack shifting power from front to back. Front and rear differentials are open. When it comes material about awd systems - we will do it in the future 🙂

Impressive showcase of the e46 transfercase that Acts like an open diff...I love to see what it would do with a wavetrac in the rear and a second combination with a wavetrac in the rear and a quaife in the Front....yes the 3 open diff Layout has ist cons and some few pros...what really made me Wonder, was that the adbx didn't Brake the wheels much....

Конкретно в этом видео Субару пустышка а ВМW с ее X-драйвом понадобилось еще некоторое время чтоб доработать алгоритмы работы системы именно на бездорожье,так как изначально ее разрабатывали для лучшего скоростного выхода с поворотов. Согласен с вами,нынешние технологии шагнули далеко вперед,но и в том лохматом году уже применялись достойные разработки. 2005 год у Инфинити и Акуры уже полноценно работали имитации межколесные и межосевые.

это старый субарик. У меня аутбек 2006 3л и он тоже при диагонале крутит свободные колеса. Это сейчас добавили имитацийй и она нормально распределяет момент. Прогресс на лицо как говориться

@@cichy_youtuber1038 W przypadku Subaru dużą różnicę robi skrzynia biegów, od niej zależy rodzaj napędu na cztery koła. Istotne jest też, czy ma kontrolę trakcji (przypuszczam, że B7 ma ją już w standardzie).

I think that something is wrong with that BMW E46. Why the Xdrive did not ensure turning a front wheel all the time when a rear one was rotating?

That is not xDrive but previous system. Front wheel is probably stopped by brakes.

The whole purpose of the system is to stop wheels from spinning... that's why its NOT turning. The correct question should instead be... why is that rear wheel turning.

On second and third example, with only one side and "cross" side slipping, apply a handbrake gently. It will make harder for one wheel to spin, so more torque would be distributed to the wheel that has a grip. It's "Limited slip for pool people" xD Works great on Subaru, because of that disc-drum brakes, with drum only for handbrake. But should work on every car with MANUAL handbrake and RWD USE WITH CAUTION! It's a delicate tip :P (from Australian offoaders!)

Standard without VDC. VDC is necessary to pass more tests than you can see here.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Actually. It is weird because in every other roller test, Subaru passes with flying colours when three wheels have no friction, even uphill. They got around this open differential issue by something called VDC, where sensors monitor wheel spin laterally, and apply different braking pressure to wheels that spin to redistribute torque to the sides that have traction. Did you disable it or something. This is the only video I could find where Subaru fails the 1 wheel traction test. So something suspect is going on here.

Musiał zadziałać, inaczej samochód nie zjechał by z rolek pod przednią i tylną osią. Manual.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers no przecież nie zjechał, 3:16. ADB z tego co rozumiem hamuje na danej osi koło które nie ma przyczepności żeby dyferencjał skierował moment obrotowy na drugie koło? A może źle rozumiem. 3 lata jeżdżę takim 325xi w automacie, ale trafiam na śliską nawierzchnię na tyle rzadko, że nie miałem okazji tego dobrze przetestować

@@JARECKOWIAK 3:16 to test po przekątnej. Ja pisałem o teście z przednią lub tylną osią na rolkach. Całą osią, nie jednym kole z każdej osi. E46 ma otwarty centralny dyfer, wygląda na to, że ADB działa względnie skutecznie pomiędzy osiami, a bardzo kiepsko pomiędzy lewymi a prawymi kołami.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers rozumiem, myślałem właśnie że ADB działa tylko między lewą a prawą. Myślałem też że tylna oś zawsze dostaje 62% momentu, a przednia 38%, ale wygląda na to że jednak jest to dynamicznie rozdzielane

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers "The transfer case (not a "center differential") on the E46/16 (awd) is a New Venture NV124 with SOLID gear-to-gear mesh like a 4x4 truck. Unlike other manufacturers that use viscous couplers, BMW chose to run a very stout unit that never fails to deliver torque (always split 38%/62% via planetary gears) to the front and rear (open) differentials. The reason that the front wheels aren't subject to "cupping" in turns like a 4x4 with a locked transfer case is also due to the planetary gears/open front diff. W teście braku przyczepności jednej osi byłoby tak samo, albo i gorzej :) Lepiej mogłoby być w testach bocznym i po przekątnej, zależy jak mocna jest ta szpera i czy wersje z VTD miały VDC.

Subaru trochę lepiej, ale i tak słabo bez systemu ESP. Masz 4x4 a na otwartych dyfrach i tak tylko dwa koła kręcą..brakuje tego dohamowywania

Dobrze, że między osiami jakoś spięte jest bo inaczej to jak BMW by było. Podejrzewam, że jakaś wiskoza siedzi w Subaru między osiami.

The official name is * "active torque split" * . You find a lot information via google for this term. All Subarus with CVT got this.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers no, this is the system for the old 4-speed-AT. The newer system that comes with CVT is similar but not the same. Its called *active torque split* (brand name)

@@b.s.7693 ACT-4 name is still in use, you can find it on Subaru websites as well as ATS. That is basically still the same awd system, shifting power from front to back via multiplate clutch-pack.

Outback has higher level of traction. In many cases 2,5 have locking of rear differential. Outbacks with the 6 valves H6 engines and 5AT has also locking of front diff.

Generally cars with higher level of trim or engine (not only Subaru) have more better awd and driving performance as same type with lower trim level (engine, transmission). This is friendly comment. Which year forester/outback start getting limited slip differential? is it the system that will move power between sides and help on these roller tests? thank you these tests are showing real abilities of the cars!

I don't know any specific rule for LSD in Subaru cars, that's kind of roundabout. Side-to-side LSDs in Subaru are usually not set for complete lock abilities so they are not able to overcome such situations. But VDC does great job.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers the only Subaru with mechanical LSD is the STI. The rest just uses visco coupling (or plate clutches) between FWD and RWD axels and open differentials. Instead of LSD they use eLSD so braking. You can search for it on the Engineering Explained channel.
